I had an interesting experience with Cars of LA as someone selling a car, not buying a car…read more I found them through my research online, I was looking for a business similar to Carvana where they make it seamless to sell a car. As I stumbled upon their website, I noticed that everything looked great. The website was well done with its branding, and the online form submittal with the VIN# match was spot on. Also, the overall look and feel of the site were good, which gave me some comfort. https://www.carsofla.com/ - in fact, they offered me $13,000 via text and wanted me to set up an appointment for an inspection. It was clear on their website that a representative will come over with all the necessary documents. (See attached screenshot from their website). This was false. From my multiple communication via text and also submitting another request from their form online, it was clear that they had no representative and that I had to drive my car into their shop for an inspection. That didn't bother me that much; it was only a 1/2 hour drive. When I arrived, I was a bit surprised. There was no shop. It was an office building, and there were no signs that said "Cars of LA". I entered through a door with a sign that said "....Trading Co." I can't quite remember exactly what it said. When I entered, the office was empty. It's a fairly large office space with about 3-4 small offices and a lobby area. Eventually, a gentleman showed up for my appointment, and we walked out to my car for an inspection. He first pulled out a device that I wasn't familiar with. Later, I found that it was a paint thickness gauge. He checked the paint throughout my car to make sure the reading on the device was under "7." He eventually found some parts of the exterior body that read over 7. He said my car was damaged and had been worked on before, which was not true. My car was never damaged or repainted for any reason. We went back into his office, and he offered me $9000 for the car. What? How did it go from $13,000 to $9000? It was so weird. And the whole paint thickness device was super weird, too. I don't know much about "purchasing used cars for resale business," so please forgive me if this is a standard protocol, but I felt a bit manipulated by this procedure. Anyway, I am not saying don't do business with them; I am just posting this to give the readers a more realistic expectation of selling their car through Cars of LA. Hope this is helpful.

Abid is as personable and honest as it gets - very nice guy who is passionate about CLEAN cars. He will pay you Top Dollar for your CLEAN car and simplify your life. The transaction went exactly like this both times; Picked Abid up from the airport (5 minutes from my house), drove 3 minutes to my local Wells Fargo, Abid and I grabbed a cashier's check together, signed the title/Bill of sale over to Spectrum Financial (which he filled out in 5 minutes) and that was it! The whole transaction took 15 minutes of texting to settle price , and half an hour at my local Wells Fargo, minutes from my home. Abid took it on a quick test drive, felt that it matched up to my description, and offered the full asking price, via cashiers check, which accompanied me to cash. Signatures were super quick. I didn't feel like I was losing thousands in value by selling quickly to a place like Carmax. Or losing a lot of time dealing with individuals. Best of both worlds!!
