The problem with this place, at least for us, is that they hardly brought us any beef. We were there for almost a half hour before the first guy came by with meat. He gave me a little sliver of sirloin that was about the size of half a strip of bacon. About 15 minutes later somebody gave me a cold chunk of turkey wrapped in bacon. And then somebody came by with some roasted pineapple which we weren't interested in. Suffice it to say, we only got small little slivers of beef, and this was frustrating because what we did receive tasted great, but they hardly ever came by and the slices they gave us were extremely small. We were basically starving to death and so we ended up having to feed ourselves from the salad bar. I had a black bean soup that was pretty good, and a salad. I would say in the hour and a half we were there I didn't get 6 ounces of beef. My wife and daughters had given up in pretty much up on waiting for meat and they just snacked on the salad bar stuff. So they got even less. Given the price point on this lunch, it was not a good deal at all. I mentioned to one of the guys who cut the meat at the table that we really wanted some more steak. He gave a very insolent response, with a scowl and a shrug of the shoulders. Very bad vibes. Would I go here again? Maybe we just caught the place on a bad day. But there were only a handful of other patrons there while we were there, and so I don't know why the service was so horrible. It was not a good experience and it wasn't worth even a fraction of what we paid. This was more of a salad bar experience than it was a Brazilian barbecue. I maybe would try this place one more time because I love Brazilian barbecues, and to the best of my knowledge there are none other in the area. But overall it was a very bad experience and I only give it two stars because the salad bar was acceptable.

If it was a hard cheese I think the flavor would have improved but it may not cut the heat as well. The side salad was delicious with honey mustard dressing. Mostly iceberg lettuce but there was some spinach and romaine. Yum! My husband had the pork ribs and loved them. The meat fell off the bones. The fries were quite soft. Our first two experiences were at the Laughlin location, and we absolutely loved it. The food was consistently good, which is what made us want to keep coming back. Unfortunately, our experiences at the Colorado Springs location have been completely different. The bread has a strange texture and taste that just isn't enjoyable. The salads are okay, but the ranch dressing is disappointing -- very little ranch flavor and far too much dill. This visit was especially frustrating. We ordered the Queso Fresco Brisket & Chips and the Tenderloin Bites as appetizers. The brisket and queso appetizer could have been really good, but it was excessively salty. The amount of salt completely overwhelmed the dish and ruined what otherwise could have been a great appetizer. The Tenderloin Bites were supposed to come with chimichurri, which we were looking forward to. Instead, the chimichurri appeared to be mixed with some type of ranch-based sauce. Whatever the combination was, it completely changed the flavor and, in our opinion, ruined the dish. Then came the prime rib. Unfortunately, it was tough as leather and nowhere near the quality we expect from a steakhouse. The creamy horseradish sauce also had virtually no horseradish kick at all. At this point, we've given Saltgrass more than enough chances. It's especially disappointing because we had such great experiences at the Laughlin locations. Five visits is enough. When a restaurant earns your trust by consistently serving quality food and then repeatedly fails to deliver, eventually you stop coming back. We really wanted to continue being Saltgrass customers, but the Colorado Springs location has unfortunately lost our trust when it comes to food quality.

The bottle had clearly been opened and possibly been sitting a while. We asked for a different wine, were offered a tasting. It was much better. Although the manager seemed quite annoyed that I didn't find the first one acceptable. We both had steak (tenderloin and 8oz filet). They were VERY good. I ordered carrots as a side dish. They needed to be cooked just a little longer, as they were hard to cut even with a steak knife. Lyonnaise potatoes were okay. We shared sorbet for dessert. It was delicious! Overall I would give the food an A, service an A- (bc of the mgr), ambiance a B (bc of the very dark and sad looking dining rooms you walk through or possibly have to be seated in). Extremely Disappointing Experience -- Pretentious Service Without the Hospitality…read more I was genuinely looking forward to dining at La Taverne during my visit to Colorado Springs. Unfortunately, my experience at The Broadmoor was incredibly disappointing before I even had the opportunity to sit down. At approximately 10:30 AM, I called La Taverne directly to confirm that the restaurant would be open for lunch at 11 AM that same day. I specifically asked whether I needed a reservation and even inquired about sitting in a particular dining room. The woman I spoke with assured me that a reservation would not be necessary and that arriving at 11 AM would be perfectly fine. Based on that conversation, I made the drive to The Broadmoor, only to arrive and discover that La Taverne was completely CLOSED. The doors were locked! What made an already frustrating situation considerably worse was the interaction I had with a tall African American gentleman working near the entrance. Rather than politely explaining the situation, he spoke to me in what I perceived as an unnecessarily loud, pompous, and condescending manner, repeatedly announcing that La Taverne was closed. When I explained that I had personally called approximately an hour earlier and had been assured the restaurant would be open, he continued repeating that it was closed, seemingly more interested in making his point than actually listening to what I was saying. Eventually, I matched his volume and explained, in front of everyone, that I completely understood the restaurant was closed. My concern was that I had JUST CALLED and been specifically told otherwise! His response? "Oh." No apology. No acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Absolutely no attempt to make the situation right. I then asked about dining at The Grille instead. He immediately asked whether I was an overnight guest. When I explained that I wasn't, he informed me that The Grille was exclusively for hotel guests, again with an attitude I found unnecessarily dismissive. When I asked for alternative dining recommendations, he offered little assistance. I practically had to pull directions out of him just to figure out where to go next. Here's what I find particularly disappointing: I live in Beverly Hills and am very familiar with luxury hotels, fine dining, and exceptional hospitality. I have absolutely no problem paying premium prices for a premium experience. But there is a tremendous difference between genuine luxury and pretentiousness. True luxury is about gracious hospitality, exceptional service, and making guests feel welcome. It is NOT about projecting an air of superiority while failing to deliver even basic customer service. A simple, sincere apology and an effort to help would have completely changed this interaction. Instead, I encountered a closed restaurant despite being assured it would be open, followed by an unnecessarily unpleasant interaction with someone representing a supposedly prestigious resort. The irony of displaying such an air of exclusivity while providing such poor service was not lost on me. I had a wonderful dining experience at Garden of the Gods Resort during this same visit, so I know exceptional hospitality exists in Colorado Springs. Unfortunately, my experience at The Broadmoor was the complete opposite. Prestige means very little when the hospitality doesn't live up to it. I narrowed my doctorate graduation hotel for my friends and family down to two locations that included the Broadmoor, but due to this, I would not return based on this experience.

The three ladies in the party all got parmesan crusted chicken. I got to steal some of my wife's and it was SO tender and mind-blowingly tasty. My brother said the ribs were just great. My Longhorn (porterhouse steak) was in the top 3 steaks I ever had. One of those top 3 was with my Dad when I was very young, so that hit something very special for me. The Brussels sprouts were epic and wifey's mac and cheese was so very good. We were lucky to get sat at that nice table under the antlers chandelier and the whole place looked so cool from there.
