The Preservation League maintains a welcome center next door to the gift shop that contains an Art Deco museum and where they sell tickets for their Art Deco walking tour. They also offer travel brochures to tourists. The gift shop is filled with charming items ranging from notecards, posters from past Art Deco weekends, T shirts, vintage jewelry, and art. My favorite items were the mermaid measuring spoons and the bathing beauty figurines. Proceeds from the gift shop support the work of the Preservation League. Whether you are searching for a gift or a souvenir to take home from your vacation you are sure to find something that catches your eye here.

Located in Lincoln Road Mal, Oolite Arts, a non profit was founded in 1984 as ArtCenter/South…read moreFlorida by potter Ellie Schneiderman, who was looking for affordable work spaces for Miami's visual artists. She want to "help artists help themselves." According to their website "Oolite Arts seeks to be the bedrock of the visual arts in Miami. Formed over time, it is composed of residents, alumnae, curators and visitors, coming together to build a community around contemporary art - a fundamental part of our arts ecosystem." Today Oolite Arts provides artists with the free studio space, the chance to exhibit their work, and support. The building contains artists' studios, small exhibitions spaces, and the group's offices. You can take classes or attend events in the building. Oolite also operates out of a new location at 75 NW 72nd St where they will offer more than 200 art classes and launch a visual art program for teens. Oolite Arts recently sold one its two Lincoln Road buildings and there are plans to build and open a new building in Little River later in 2023. Little River is becoming an alternative location for artists priced out of nearby Wynwood. The new building will have two dozen studios for the group's residency program where artists can get free space for two years, an exhibition space, a theater for films and lectures or presentations, a studio, and offices. Any organization that supports and facilitates the arts is a worthwhile one to support. They help artists who might otherwise not be able to afford studio space to have a place to work and exhibit. It looks like they have some amazing plans in the works to help even more artists in the future. This is a fantastic organization. Stop by for inspiration and culture.

After 2 plus years living in the vicinity, l finally made time this last Saturday and stopped by. It's admission free if you are visiting the lower level, which I think it's nice and with great variety of pieces from artists such as Botero, Wilfredo Lam and others. There is a $20 entrance fee for the Botero private collection at the 2nd level which I didn't get to see but I will soon. They allow to take pictures, which is another plus. Due to its proximity to Wynwood, it can be part of a day full of activities in the artwork capital of the world.

I was down in Wynwood, cruising in my 6-4 trying to roll up to the Se7ven BBQ event. That was closed, but hold up, there's mad rides pulling up to another gallery about a half block up. Free Valet Parking? Fo' shizzle! Rolling up classy, since 5-O, I mean Miami Police was in the area I tucked my shirt, shone my watch and put on my bluetooth headset. Voila, Serg the 1%er! =) Check out the pretty hostesses - and structural art of the roof when you walk in. I'm talking a combination of metal framing, drop caps and drop panels, as well as exposed ductwork showcasing the building structure as art. Nosh on some tasty nibbles from Bongo's (their Cuban sushi consisting of a rice roll enveloping lechon, black beans and sweet plaintains come to mind.) There's more: vaca frita (pulled chicken sliders with chimichurri, cold crisp chardonnay. Now I'm in the mood for art! What better way to open a Basel exhibit than with Botero sculptures (including a kitteh than can haz wine), as well as other Hispanic artists. Throw in a deejay spinning some mellow acid house, and the night is on for art!

It's signature feature is an undulating aquarium, over a white leather bench that separates the hotel lobby from the store. Inside, there are gift items smacking of chi-chi Miami Beach. For toiletries, Splash takes the discrete route and provides rows of travel sized toothpaste etc inside a stack of drawers, almost hidden in a corner wall. The kids can pick plush toys, which were stacked about six high and one over the other on top of a lounge - I think in homage to a similar exhibit at the Art fair in town. No snooty service - the most annoying questions that we couldn't help but overhear were answered with a smile.
