If I were rich I would have purchased so many things! They have so many hand made items from pottery to jewelry to art work. I loved so much of it. This place is not cheap, but that's because you are buying hand made items from talented people! Even if you plan on buying nothing, you have to check it out. Service was top notch. I had stopped here and found a cool crank shaft clock from a corvette and asked about making a Ford bench for my dads 90th! They did such an excellent job and the communication and service was outstanding! Right down to walking down the block to get a special plaque for the back. He loved it! Really cool and interesting artworks business located in downtown Brighton on Mains St. The artwork carried by this business is very diversified and includes unique one off lighting fixtures constructed of gas pipes and gages (definately an eye catcher and conversation piece), Clocks made from automotive gears and moving timing belts, diversified collection of ceramic artworks, a multitude of paintings, tin/copper works, hand forged iron works, woodwork, hand made rugs, and the list goes on and on. The quality and beauty of the work is amazing and will be a a focal point and conversation piece in your home. This place is special and the artworks need to be seen in person to be appreciated. If you are anywhere near downtown Brighton this is an absolute must see business especially if you have any interest whatsoever in artwork and the creative skills of very good "local" artisan work. The Artisan's Bench is an absolutely stunning space located in the heart of downtown Brighton. I absolutely love any artisan store that showcases the insanely talented work of a whole plethora of artists & that is exactly what you'll find here! If you're in the area, this place is a MUST SEE! I have been to many shops like this, but The Artisan's Bench is so unique, carrying artists and vendors I have never seen before. When I was on my hunt for Christmas gifts last winter, I ended up buying so many things here for so many different loved ones in my life because their collection is just so eclectic, I love it! Perhaps my favorite part of The Artisan's Bench is the fact that they have a SECOND FLOOR also filled to the brim with unique, gorgeous goods from local artisans. This place is simply a paradise! This place is fantastic! On the expensive side of decor but you're sure to find one-offs that you won't find elsewhere. The artwork here is phenomenal, it appears to be local and it's all quality. From beautiful rugs, to beer growlers, paintings and ornamental ceramic tiles, this place was really cool to walk through. You're guaranteed to find something you love although it might be more than you like to pay. The Artisan's Bench is such a vibrant addition to downtown Brighton. All of their items are handmade in the USA (save for the extensive handmade rug collection from India/Pakistan/Tibet), and probably over 3/4ths of the items are made in Michigan. The owner is very knowledgable on the backstory of each artist and each piece in the store, and is very helpful without being pushy. Some of my favorite items are the handmade in michigan ornaments and holiday cards under $10, animal art prints for the kids room $20-30, and the extensive collection of Motawi tile $30-90. If you are looking for special handmade item for a special someone or yourself, this is the place to do some shopping! read more

There is nothing like this store. Everything in here is handmade and gorgeous. There's art, furniture, tiles, ceramics...a little something for everyone. The displays are all hand built by the owner and his team and you can tell how much attention and care they put into everything. There's a really fabulous print and card section upstairs where you could get all your gifts done without spending a ton. But all their art is beautiful and you can find things low to high, which is really smart. I highly recommend a trip out here, it's a beautiful shopping experience! read more

The week before Valentines Day I decided to find a Sid Dickens tile for my wife, she loves his work. Without a second thought I took a lunch hour and drove to the boutique where we had seen them together and she told me how much she liked them. The shop had closed down the week before....... Panic set in as I had no plan b! At the time I could not for the life of me remember the artists name, I only knew she liked the tiles we had seen, to the Internet I went! After hours of research I finally found an example of his work and immediately recognized his style, now that I knew I was looking for Sid Dickens it seemed easy enough. Two phone calls that included more than a little attitude toward and 'uneducated art fan' like me and I was ready to buy a dozen roses and call it a day. One last try and I stumbled onto The Artisan's Bench website, they have a convenient contact us form so I thought it would be a great way to avoid and unpleasant interaction, I could not have been more wrong! Withing minutes of submitting my request the phone rang and on the other end was the most pleasant and patient person I have encountered in retail in MANY years!!! Working in sales myself I always appreciate great customer service and Brittany was AMAZING! She took the time to help me with many ideas and suggestions, emailing me links to different pieces she thought would be right for what I was trying to do and that fit the theme. Her knowledge of the artist is amazing and her professionalism is second to none! I cannot fit into words how impressed I am with The Artisan's Bench and I will be calling again soon for more tiles!
