Inside are bountiful dining rooms and cozy living rooms as well as rooms for high society! The Schuylers were an influential and renowned and famous New York family who settled very early in and lived in Albany throughout the American Revolution 1776-1781 Walk around and read some plaques and signs and read about Colonial America. The views are perfect and the grounds always pristine. There are small fields. Walk around and take in the scenery, old walls, metal fences and more culture, architecture, framed art and fancy, delightful chandeliers and interiors than you will find at most other places. There was a play going on and it was well acted. Also they sell cookies and they are delicious. I bought the double chocolate, it was cooked perfectly and wasn't too soft or too crunchy. The Massry has teamed up with Troy Savings Bank Music Hall for their scheduling/ticketing this season and the line-up they are presenting is a wonderful, diverse selection of music. I am looking forward to attending future performances at this venue and seeing what direction they move to with their programming. With a number of bars and restaurants within walking distance, it's easy to make seeing a performance at the Massry into a true evening out.

As a plus sized woman, I find the seats to be very roomy and comfortable. The seats were very cushy and supportive and there was a ton of leg room. I'll go to more shows based on this alone. I think my issue is comparing this theatre to Proctors, which is a very different vibe. The Palace offers more lively shows with less of a strict seating policy. People are often up and down in their seats, there is often a lot of chatter in the crowd; and I think this threw me off my first visit, as I am used to being quiet and still in my seat until intermission. Parking is pretty easy with multiple options locally, as well as abundant street parking. Concessions were very pricy. The bathrooms are in the basement if you are on the main level, so that's a bit of a pain. I won't hesitate to book another show here!

The Egg re-hatched on January 8th after a nearly $20 M renovation. That was great news! It was…read morestarting to become an eyesore with its aging seating and bathrooms. Now, it's a sight for sore eyes! Better sound system and LED lighting were among the upgrades. A little more seating. New seats and flooring. New wall coverings.The public was invited to check out the improvements at a free evening event. When you consider that the distinctive facility is about a half century old, the upgrades were overdue. The helpful ushers are not paid to be tour guides so I'm not sure how accurate their information was. Some ushers said the bathrooms were not renovated. The bathrooms I visited did have upgrades, but I cannot understand why the some of the original hardware including the old, chipped sanitary napkin receptacles were screwed back into the womens' bathrooms stalls. It seriously detracted from the overall appearance and seemed to be a bad penny pinching decision after so much money was spent. I can't tell you about the men's rooms. The men in our group of friends said they thought some work had been done. The Egg's unique shape was inspired by the half grapefruit that Gov. Rockefeller was eating during a planning meeting. In this day and age of large venues, it remains a more intimate setting. The Kitty Carlisle Hart theatre has a capacity of just under 1,000 seats and there's another smaller theater just below it. I was in the audience a few years ago when Pete Davidson did his stand-up act at the Egg. He complained about the small size of the venue. He added another show for same day just to make it worth his while. I came away offended by some of what he tried to pass off as humor. If performers like Davidson don't want to play the Egg again, I'm okay with that. It has great acoustics for fine artists of a whole different caliber. The Egg re-cracked open with aerial performances by Good Karma Studio and the DJ Hollyw8d. Looking forward to attending many awesome performances in this newly improved venue!

I am a frequent flyer to Proctors, so I need to update my old review…read more Proctors is my favorite theatre in the area. I love the location, abundant free parking, plenty of fabulous restaurants within a block or two, easy in and easy out every time. I know if I have tickets to a show at proctors, it's going to be a great evening. I average about 4 shows a year if I can. I love the selection of musicals and plays they host. There is truly nothing like live entertainment. The reason why this is my favorite theatre in the area is the general etiquette of the crowd. Once a show is on, the crowd is quiet, most stay seated until intermission, there are no concessions while the show is going, the ushers do their job to control people coming in and out during the performance. The theatre is gorgeous and you are truly able to enjoy the show in this environment. I really love it here. Service is always amazing as well. Everyone working here is always so friendly and helpful. It's just such a good vibe. Could the seats be more comfy? Yes, but that's literally every theatre. I would love a cup holder too, but that's life. My only grief is that I can't afford more tickets to go to more shows. I love Proctors, and you will too.

The voices of the performers were among the best I've ever heard, especially those in the lead roles. The audience members were very friendly. As we arrived at the theater, some struck up conversations with us. Afterwards, a small group visiting from the Finger lakes stopped my friend and I as we were leaving the theater to tell us that the version of Wicked we just saw at Proctor's was every bit as good as what they saw on Broadway. I don't doubt that. I think the group was excited and just wanted to share their enthusiasm. It was a great evening. The decor is beautiful. The seats are comfy. The staff is very nice and so helpful. It's awesome to see such high quality performances without having to travel far.

The food at Normanside is delicious and ever changing. You don't need to be a member to eat there…read moreeither. We belong and we couldn't be happier with the experiences we've had. This winter our daughter is old enough to start golfing. We brought her for an hour to the indoor simulators to play games and get used to her new clubs. The golf pros are phenomenal and offer lessons. The wait staff is kind and wonderful. In the summer, the pool has a water slide, swim lessons and food. The life guards are fantastic as well. The golf course is beautiful and a favorite of my husbands. It's well kept.

That said, the 3-hour event window felt a bit limited. In my experience attending events over the years, a 4-hour timeframe tends to allow for a more relaxed and enjoyable flow. One thing that stood out was that water wasn't offered at the tables, and there was no coffee or dessert service during the event. It wasn't until I was leaving that I noticed coffee and desserts had been set out, but by then, no one was really partaking. It might help to place those items closer to the main dining area or have staff circulate, especially during programs with presentations and speakers. Many guests, myself included, wouldn't feel comfortable getting up and walking to the front during those moments just to grab water or coffee. Overall, a nice venue with a few opportunities to enhance the guest experience.
