Lovely Grounds, Comfortable Rooms, Courteous Service
My Irish pen pal and her Mother had stayed at the Ardilaun Hotel in the past and when the two of us decided on a road trip after years of not seeing one another, we booked the Ardilaun. It was formerly a private mansion that has been turned into a hotel. Our average sized room on the 3rd floor had two very comfortable double beds overlooking the gardens and clean, simple bathroom with a shower. We enjoyed swimming in the beautiful indoor pool and relaxing in the large co-ed Jacuzzi whilst at the hotel and also booked a 1/2 hour massage, which was excellent. Be aware that when using the swimming pool a bathing cap is mandatory. If you don't have one, they sell them for 2 Euros. Towels are provided. The original mansion public rooms are beautifully restored but it was the gardens that were inspiring. A tree even had a fairy door. A large herb garden provides herbs for the restaurant. The winding entrance to the hotel has gorgeous landscaping with a historic guardhouse at the front. The Ardilaun is located in the suburbs. A refreshing 1 kilometer downhill hike brought us to Salthill and Galway Bay where in the summer the sun didn't set until 10:30 pm. We took a taxi to Galway City, although it is a walkable distance from the hotel. We dined one night at the Ardilaun Bistro and the food was fresh and delicious at a reasonable price. Our standard room came with breakfast included for a rate of Euros 154 per night. To have breakfast brought to your room, an additional Euros 5 is added to the bill. This is a very nice hotel in a quiet neighborhood. read more
