So I got on the internet, did some research and decided to take a chance on Clayton Hair Salon. The things that I liked about it was that it wasn't like some of the other Clayton Salons that are "tragically hip" and you pay for the atmosphere, and also it didn't seem to cater towards small kids or teens. All I want is a great haircut for a fair price. And I am so pleased that I found it! I must also say that one of the reasons I chose Clayton Hair Salon is I saw on the website that their Manicurist is Becky Gordon, and she had done my nails at another place a few years ago and she is AMAZING. So that settled it, I called and made my hair appointment. Kristty was everything I was hoping for and more! Her shop is in an adorable old historic-style home in Clayton's beautiful little downtown area, and there is plenty of parking available. She took me on a tour and every room was done very professionally. She offered me a drink but I had brought one in. She was easy to talk to and understood exactly what my hair needs were and she gave me some great advice that I'm still using today. I even called her back a couple of days after my appointment to tell her how happy I am with my cut. I'm looking forward to going back and seeing Kristty again!

Karen is phenomenal. She's so talented and kind, and it's clear that she really knows hair and has a great artistic eye. My hair cut is absolutely perfect (I have a very short pixie, so it's very important to me that the shape is just right). Also, I'd never experienced a stylist giving a head and neck massage while washing my hair, and it was wonderful surprise after work.

K Elizabeth had great reviews that made me decide to give it a try. Although they don't offer online scheduling, they are very flexible and made scheduling easy. It is a quaint salon off St. Mary's Street in downtown Raleigh. There is parking behind and a little on the street (if you are lucky). About 3 weeks prior to my appointment, I got silly and colored my hair with Clairol Color Crave Semi-Permanent in Scarlet; let's just say my hair was RED. This stuff lasts 15+ washes; there's an understatement. After weeks of washing, my hair was a faded red/orange ugliness. I work from home, so not too many people thought it was CRAZY. I walked in and promptly apologized to Maddie for the condition of my hair. She was concerned that highlights, etc. might damage it due to the WONKY color, but she accepted the challenge. She spent a lot of time figuring out the best way to get rid of or remove/reduce the red. After working her magic, my hair just had minimal hints of red, and looked AWESOME! I was VERY impressed with Maddie and the team at K Elizabeth. They are all very friendly, and I could have spent more time watching them interact and just have fun.

She delivered on everything I asked for and was very clear in the questions she asked to determine my final look. On September 25, 2025, I received an email reminding me of my appointment scheduled for September 27, 2025. Immediately after receiving this email, I called the salon to cancel my appointment since there was no option to do so through the email itself. I called three times without an answer and ultimately left a voicemail requesting cancellation. Despite this, I received an email today stating that my card on file would be charged for missing the appointment. I promptly called your salon to clarify the situation and explained that I had canceled by voicemail on September 25. The person who answered the phone was dismissive, and when I spoke with the owner, I was made to feel as though the responsibility fell on me for not replying to the email or a text message. To clarify: I do not receive text messages from your salon. I did not reply to the email because I had already called and left a voicemail. It is your responsibility to check and respond to client voicemails. Additionally, I called today at 11:29 a.m. and was told I would receive a call back within 30 minutes. That call never came. This lack of professionalism is unacceptable. I respectfully request a full refund of the cancellation charge. I hope you will honor this request and reconsider how communication and customer service are handled in the future.

We had no discussion about cost or any kind of consult. She began working on my hair and told me we'd be done in a couple of hours. Well, she ran over her time by 1.5 hours and my husband and I missed our appointment that we had planned afterwards. He showed up and waited patiently because she said we'd be done soon. SMH! Because she ran over her estimated time, she began to rush through my treatment. She decided not to wash my treatment out which was fine until I got home and all I smelled throughout the night was horrible chemicals. I wanted to vomit because the smell was so strong and awful. And when it was time to pay. The fee I was expecting to pay was from what I saw listed on her website. What I was being charged was an extra $60 in addition to what was listed. She claimed I had a lot of hair and needed more product; I've had this treatment performed several times before at other salons and they never charge me extra. At the beginning of the appointment she said the special shampoo and conditioner I was being sent home with was included in the price, so I thought oh that's great. But afterwards she said the price increase was because of the special products she had to send me with. There was no fine print on her website that broke down any possible price increases, and the details listed said the shampoo and conditioner were included in the cost, so why am I having to pay extra for them? Why didn't she have a proper consult at the beginning of the hair appt? Is it because you were 1 hour late to begin? Plus having to hear gossip and poking fun about the other stylists in the salon was rude and uncomfortable. So incredibly unprofessional. Never again.

Instead of saying no and offering other time slots I was told they are by appointment only and to check down the road at the other salons. For a location that is not on the main part of downtown and charges $55 for a hair cut, I assumed you would get excellent service. I only decided to wrote this in hopes the owner will correct the problem as I would love this area to continue growing. Everybody is busy, but a service salon is only as good as its service.
