Brittany did a great job on my hair today. I really wanted a natural highlight that could grow out well since I don't get to the salon that often, and she definitely delivered! My highlights look like the sun did them, so natural, and I know they'll grow out to be really blended with my roots. I'll for sure be back here for Brittany's services! read more

Sandi is amazing!!! She does beautiful work. I would recommend theirs services to anyone. Very nice salon.

RUINED my HIGHLIGHTS. Just went in there for hair root touch up . Faith - the hair stylist there did not understand what I was requesting her and just ended up ruining my fresh highlights that I got done just last month . In total I have about $500 worth damage done to my hair in less than 1 hour . I waited 7 months to do my highlights and finally when I got it done she ruined it all in one go !!!! After persistently trying and asking her not to do so . She just went for it and RUINED it all for me . read more

I had a wonderful experience with Makala and plan to return to Salon 42 whenever I need a haircut. They were able to schedule me for the next day which was nice. I knew what I wanted but also hoped that my stylist would be frank about how it would work for my hair and willing to offer other ideas. I got that and more with Makala. She was honest about my hair not having enough natural texture to pull off the cut I wanted, which I was grateful for. So then I told her I wanted to try and keep my length, but add texture and *gasp* bangs, albeit sideswept. She took the time to walk me through what she would do. She also took care to not lob off a chunk of hair and make the new bangs too short or too thin/thick. Very happy with the result. read more

Sandi Adams does a great job with cut and color. She knows exactly what looks good on my skin tone and my hair always looks amazing when I leave! Love Salon 42 and the entire staff. read more

Gracie was great! Great cut, color and style. And she is adorable to talk to. Will definitely return again!

Have had a great experience with Salon 42. I first came to them after a bad hair cut and highlight from another salon. Amber corrected my stripey highlights and awful layers wonderfully into a cute much more subtle balayage. And for MUCH less than the place that messed it up in the first place. I've been going to her ever since. There was one time where my hair didn't turn out quite as I had hoped, and after I called the salon to let them know Amber helped to get me back in quickly and fixed it! I was so pleased. I will continue to go here! read more

My stylist was Sandi, and she did a terrific job. My hair had grown down to the middle of my back, but I wanted to go back to short hair. It was a drastic change, and she did wonderful work. She also talked me through how to style it at home. Highly recommend! read more

My stylist is Marcia and I absolutely love her! I went in first to get a cut; dropped a foot of hair for shoulder length style. She really listened to what I wanted and was super friendly. Went back for color and discovered my dark/gray hair wasn't interested in going lighter. So, after another session, she gave me deep rich color with gorgeous lowlights. Marcia is super knowledgeable and I was really impressed with her professionalism. I highly recommend the salon because it's super welcoming and even better with stylists like Marcia. Will definitely be returning. read more

Alright, y'all, listen up. I'm qualifying this review by saying, I have hair PTSD on an alarming scale, so finding a new hair stylist is worse than getting a filling to me. I've had some of the most horrific haircuts known to man from the age of 16 to present, which I assume is why I let myself recently go for over a year without a haircut and resorted to sad, plain jane box color so if I screwed up my color I'd have no one to blame but myself. A trusted friend of mine (with great hair) recommended Jessica at Salon 42, and, reluctantly, I made an appointment in preparation for my upcoming holiday travel (Thanksgiving pictures, ya know?). To my complete pleasant surprise, she fit me in to her schedule and brought my bland brown locks back to life! Jessica is probably the best colorist I've ever had, and without a doubt she's the best therapist I've ever met! Be careful people - something in that dye has truth serum in it or something because she now knows my entire life story after 2.5 hours...and I'm totally okay with it. Everyone in the salon seemed to be a ton of fun, and although this location is a little bit out of the way for me, there's pretty much no distance I wouldn't travel to know I'm going to walk out of a salon looking better than I walked in. 5 stars all the way - I LOVE my hair! read more

I arrived to Salon 42 a bit early and discovered my new hairdresser was running behind due to a Wedding party that had arrived earlier. I was patient and understanding, waiting nearly hour in the salon before my hair dresser got to me. Staff often asked if I needed something to drink or if I was okay, which was quite kind, and made me feel like I was not being forgotten (like in some other salons I had been to). Normally I would be rather urked, but my new hairdresser Sandy made it worth the wait! Not only was she very friendly, she asked questions that most hairdressers in the past six years had failed to ask me! She asked if my scalp was sensitive (which it is) and if the blow dryer was too hot when she used it. Sandy kept making sure I was happy the entire time, and managed to cut my hair in a way that left me very pleased. She also told me to give her a call if I needed anything or had questions about my hair. This made me feel like she really did care about her work and my hair. I could not have had a better hair dresser, today! I will definitely be going back to Salon 42 and ask for Sandy as my stylist from now on. But I will also make sure that on the day I book, that I will not be competing with a wedding party, again. read more

I made an apt with Stacy to get my hair curled and styled for a wedding I was attending. I stay with my boyfriend who lives towards Benson, NC. I made an apt here, because I needed my hair styled for the wedding at a salon that was close to where he lived. When I arrived I had to wait a few minutes, which was fine. The salon itself was very clean, pretty and had a homey feel to it. Stacy greeted me with a friendly smile, and I showed her a picture of how i wanted my hair curled for the wedding. She did a GREAT job. My hair looked amazing, and she did such a great job. I was so happy!! If I ever have to get my hair styled for another event I will definitely make an apt with Stacy again because she really did such a great job. Thank you so much if your reading!!! :) All of the other staff who was working there was also very friendly. I would definitely recommend them to friends. read more

I came from out of town visiting in-laws and desperately needed my hair colored. I went to Sandi and she was awesome! Easy to talk to, was able to explain exactly what color I was hoping to achieve and she nailed it! Would definitely recommend. My husband also went here just prior to our wedding for the first time and we were not disappointed! read more

Madison did a great job of cutting my hair and low lights to give my gray more life. Instead of it looking drab it looks amazing. It looks so natural. She recommended gray low lights, who would have ever thought that. Always liked going to Salon 42, but stopped when I had issues with a stylist who is no longer there. So glad to be back. read more

I went to Salon 42 today for the first time. I chose the salon because of the great reviews here. Unfortunately, my experience was quite different. The salon looked fine. My stylist, Sandi, was friendly and I enjoyed talking to her before the problems began. I showed her pictures of the cut I wanted and talked at length with her about the haircut I was asking for. I also asked for her input and I was given no reason not to proceed with my plan so... I proceeded. We also talked about color and agreed on that. We started with the color which was to be a natural looking blend of ash brown and platinum highlights. The first go around it was ALL blonde. When I mentioned this to her she said something about drying it and texturizing it and it would look better. (?? the color would be darker after drying and texturizing?? Okay...) It seemed as if she would've proceeded like this had I not made comments that this was way too much blonde. When she could tell I wasn't happy and probably not going to let it go, she suggested a re-do of the color to put some brown in. The color end up being 'eh' okay I guess. (comparatively speaking) If you think dull, lifeless color is good. I'm quite sure an ash brown color can still have a rich tone to it... I've had it before. Mine looks more grey and dull like naturally grey hair. I'm quite certain she was hoping to leave it blonde after the first round of color had I not made an issue of it because she commented it looked good - because the brasiness was gone. Umm yes the brassiness was gone but now my hair was blonde vs brown and dead/dull looking! Then we started on the cut. I explained how I had a pixie cut over the summer and had been working to grow out the cut out around my ears so it could blend in with the bangs I'd been growing out as well as the back which had been getting quite long. I asked her to take a bit of length off the back and try to get the hair the same length all the way around. My hair was ready to meet this goal on the day of this cut! I also explained the look I was going for was a sporty shag vs a preppy bob. I did not want a bob cut and nobody ever mentioned tapering the back. I provided two photos as examples of the direction I wanted to go in. She cut off all the length which was what I'd been working on for months! Worst of all, she cut a chunk out of the back SUPER short! It doesn't match the other side AT ALL and will take a LONG time to grow back in! By the time it grows back it will be time for my 'summer' haircut and I will not have achieved the shag look I was going for this winter. I might as well just cut my hair now to my summer cut. After working so long to transition my hair from pixie to shag.... those of you who have tried to transition your hair from short to long know how hard this can be.... it's all been wasted because she cut up the sides removing all the growth I've been working on and cutting it close to my head!! She did acknowledge that what I got was not what I asked for and she did not charge me for the cut, only the color (which I wasn't paying much attention to by this point because I was so upset with the cut). However, as the day has gone on (my appointment was at 11am and it's now 5:45pm) I have not been able to think of anything else because my hair looks so bad - I don't want to go anywhere looking like this! So while it's great that I didn't get charged for having my hair hacked, that doesn't seem like a fair trade off. Shouldn't I be compensated for having my hair ruined and having to walk around like this??? Not just 'not charged'!?!? The only way to 'fix' this is to cut the hair even shorter which means all my hard work to grow my hair out the past several months is for nothing! I was charged $100 for the color only and after sitting with this situation all day long I don't think I should've paid a penny! I reached out to the salon but have yet to hear back. I am stuck with this terrible cut! And... Christmas is in two days. Wow. I feel ugly as sin. I did all my due diligence. I asked if the hair dresser was experienced with short haircuts and color and was told she was. I shared photos of both the cut and color I was going for and we talked at length about all of this. I'm disgusted! I will have to pay for someone to fix this so... I want to be reimbursed at a minimum! She shouldn't be allowed to cut hair. People are saying their kids could've done better. read more

Marcia has been terrific! She has done my last two cut/style and also a session for highlights and it's been exactly what I've wanted. Bangs are a big deal and was able to execute them perfectly for my face shape! I'm glad I found someone who has been able to manage my thick and course hair. There aren't many who are up to the challenge, but Marcia is! read more

Sandi was amazing. She not only provided an exceptional hair cut and style. She made me feel very comfortable. I moved to North Carolina 4 months ago and finding a new stylist can feel like a daunting task. Sandi made me feel as if I had been going there forever. Good conversation and great service -- what else could you ask for in a stylist. The salon is very laid back but provides everything you would expect. They do have some products for sale. You pay your stylist directly which is very nice and they do take credit cards. Cost of the shampoo, cut, and style was very reasonable. I will absolutely be back! Can't thank the previous reviewer (Nicole W.) enough for her glowing review that pushed me over the fence I had been sitting on trying to decide where to go. read more

09/12/2015 I was looking for a hair salon that could work me in same day. I came across Salon 42. Sandi was able to work me in...and so glad she did. I told her what cut/style I was going for. She did a great job and I am totally pleased. She made a new client today for sure. :) read more

Best salon I've been to in my life! Laura knows what she's doing, for sure! I always leave looking and feeling like a million bucks!

I have been searching for a good haircut for ~eight years, no exaggeration. I 'found' Sandi at Salon 42 through a fluke, but it couldn't have turned out any better. Sandi gave me the BEST hair cut ever ... I absolutely love it and I'm very particular. Sandi is easy to talk to, listens to you and asks questions to understand what you want, she is precise and gives the time and attention to make the cut perfect. read more

I just moved to the area and was anxious about finding someone to cut my hair, as I've had plenty of bad experiences in the past. Tried Salon 42 based on good and current reviews. Amber was my stylist, and she was amazing! She listened to what I wanted, made sure we were on the same page before she did anything, and I left with my hair looking absolutely gorgeous! And the price was much less than I would have expected. That being said, I waited until I had washed my hair at home to write my review. I have naturally curly hair that only sees a straightener at the salon when I get it cut, as it is just way too much work for me. My hair cut looked AMAZING when it was straight. But I was clear that in real life, it will always be curly. It looks pretty good after the first wash, but I'm not in love. Most of the layers are shorter than I had anticipated, and the shape to me is kind of odd when my hair is curly. My experience the day of was 5 star! But my live-in it reaction is more of a 3, thus my averaged 4 start rating! read more

I am new to Raleigh...tried Salon 42 based on its Yelp reviews. Big mistake! I drove home with an itchy head due to tons of color not rinsed out (it caked under my fingernails as I scratched my head). Techniques seemed outdated. A stylist slumped in her customer-chair on her phone as I was being blown out. Unprofessional. Will not go back :-(. read more
