The Anchor looks ideallyic. On a road that connects villege to village, beside a pedesitrain crossing (that makes lot of noise whent he button is pressed) and set back fromt he street with a nice paved front garden it is the sort of plac you pass ona drive and want to stop in for a pint. Although the driver isnt keen because it is only soft drinks for them.
Then inside its low ceilings, artifacts and little pictures hanging on the wall, an open fire you just beleive that this place might not have changed in 50 years. Then a visit to the toilet confirms it had not changed in 20, as the olde worldness of the late 80s jumped out at me. It also should be noted this is the first stop on the Bookham Pub Crawl (BPC).
Then it is time for the real surprise as my round approaches. This place is rather expensive. I mean unnecessarly so. Why charge so much? What are you providing that makes your pub so special? I ask to myself but the answer I have been told is that this is a real community asset. One from a friend who has grown up here. Antoher from a lovely American lady I work with who is proud to call this one of her locals. I guess you have to live here to really love the Anchor. read more
