I feel a slight pang of guilt handing this place 2 stars, but as the description describes 'Meh. I've experienced better'
The Guilt comes from a feeling that there's lost potential with the Frog & Duck. I'm guessing it used to be some form of chain carvery type jobby, a beefeater type place, the childhood memories of such places were remembered as you walked into the tiled main entrance with it's wooden porch, and once you were beyond the entrance everywhere was that pre-Ikea wood finish, even the seating reminds you of what the place once was.
It's a pub so I'm going with the obvious, the beer. Is really good, smacks of well maintained pipes always a plus in my book, your regular brands can be seen as well as a island of pleasing Ales, marvelous.
The place was very quiet when I was in attendance, now it was Easter Weekend so I know many go away, but at 13.30 for there to be one table of 4 people, myself and my Father seems silly quiet for a Saturday. Especially when this place has a prime location on the edge of a couple of estates you'd have thought it would have more regulars, though this maybe down to what I was hinting towards above, it didn't used to be a pub and the work that has been done to it since not being an eatery hasn't really been enough to make it feel like a pub I think my father made a good observation that with the bar being quite low you couldn't do the stereotypical 'propping up the bar' and if you had attempted you would have been painfully aware that you were blocking the path to the rest of the establishment.
To sum up, Good beer, good location, place could probably do with more work to get abit more of a pub feel going. read more
