This is the genuine article not a cleverly named pub... Behind light-blue painted iron rails, in the grounds of the Council buildings - by the side of Kingston Police station - stands the Coronation Stone, dating back to the year 900.
Seven elaborate pillars represent the seven Anglo-saxon Kings who were crowned on this stone, in ancient times. Their names are engraved in latin around the base of the stone.
If you have a good imagination and enjoy being transported to days of yore, it would make a different day out - ideally combined with some of the area's other offerings - or just as a prelude to an agreeable riverside wander. read more
