We had very high hopes for this place and we started to realize there might be a problem when the "gentleman" at the front ushered us towards a table handed us the menus and had us seat ourselves. That was after waiting at the hostess stand for a few minutes and wondering if we were even at the right place. We waited five or 10 minutes for someone to come see us and eventually a woman who turned out to be the manager came over and started taking our order. She quickly realized that we didn't have the drink menu, the special menu, or even the water they were supposed to be placed at our table. This woman who is the manager is also the owner and I really can't say enough about her. She obviously cares about what she's doing and really does aim to make sure the customers happy. Things got a little bit busier inside and as a result the guy who had told us to go sit down turned out to be the waiter that we were supposed to have had the whole time. She came over to ask if we wanted anything for dessert and then brought the bill. Even that he seem to feel overwhelmed with and it took 10 minutes maybe 15 minutes to get the bill. As far as the food goes, it was really great, as were the drinks. That waiter honestly is the only reason that I didn't give five stars. We love 406 as our go to "date night" and have come often for two years. Some of our favs on the menu are the sweet potato fries, bacon wrapped dates, steak frites, and Brie burger. The drinks are excellent as well should you choose to order off their house drink menu. We hear rumor that the place is under new ownership which is exciting however we are giving some grace as the transition takes place. Our past two experiences with some wait staff hasn't been the usual level of excellence we have enjoyed. Unfortunately for us, they no longer serve tiramisu on the desert menu which was one of the reasons we would come. We tried the tiramisu bread pudding on the seasonal menu tonight but it simply is not the same. We would love to see the tiramisu return to the menu as our next option for a great tiramisu is all the way in Bigfork. No one else may care about this but I'm particular. It's my favorite desert of all time! Haha We will continue to stand by 406 and return every few weeks as our go-to place. I suppose it is time to write my review of this new restaurant. I will admit, we were sad when we walked up to the Bay and it was closed to reopen under new management, but I have been pleasantly surprised in the couple of times I have tried 406. Read on good friend... The first time we had lunch - I had a caesar with shrimp on it and it was very good. Kind of boring but that's my fault for what I ordered. The second time we went back was for dinner a few nights ago. Our server was pleasant and did an excellent job, which hasn't always been the case with the service previously in this building. (He even knew all 12 beers on tap from memory and THAT IS AWESOME as a customer!) He was a young-ish, dark-haired gentleman and that is the kind of helpful and attentive service I will return for! We also had what I assume to be a manager come and check on us, which we really appreciated. I ordered the ceviche as I was not hungry at all and we were headed to see a movie where there would be snacks anyway. Disclaimer: I have no experience with ceviche but this was really good!! It ate very fresh and cool and had a wonderful light aromatic scent from the avocado and all of the herbs. I wanted to order another round of it it was so good. I do eat a lot of sushi and this was reminiscent of that - raw shrimp and tuna - so I figured I would like it, and I did! SO had the fish and chips and commented that it was largely similar to the Bay's version, which was fine with him. I will definitely be back as this used to be and hopefully will continue to be one of our frequent date night spots. read more

Holy smokes. We had a terrible experience with another restaurant yesterday. So, we were a little hesitant to try yelp again. I'm sure glad we did. My husband and son shared the spicy 406 burger with amazing fries. My daughter got the vegetarian "papa's" dish. To die for. I got the empanadas and man oh man. Their beer selection was very diverse for a small tap count and we both loved our beers. Oh waitress was extremely attentive and kid, even though it was busy. 100% would recommend. read more

Every time we eat here we try something different and every time we find some fantastic surprises. Their cocktails are incredible, the tapas are innovative and extremely tasty and their entrees all just fantastic. This place is a three star place. The food is pretty good. The service was ok. My dish came out much later than the rest but that was probably the kitchen's fault. The problem is the prices. I live in DC. I don't blush when I see expensive menu items. However, this is Montana. $13 bruschetta was worth about $7. $21 Salmon Caesar was good but worth about $14. Underwhelming. The decor and price point hinted at a finer dining experience. He got the ceaser salad and added salmon and I got the bison sliders and bruschetta. Yay: the side salad was delish, the olive croutons bumped it up a notch too. Our server was also kind. Boo: adding the salmon cost $8 - it was probably a 3oz piece and overcooked, it brought the total salad cost to $21 - completely not worth the money. The bruschetta consisted of 3 pieces of soft bread topped with a total of 4 cherry tomatoes. The taste was ok but it should have been priced around $5 instead of $13. Bison sliders - not enough meat, meh flavor. The fries were probably the best part of the meal. Amazing! Enjoyed dinner here last night with friends and it was the most delicious! Meals come in smaller shareable portions. We ordered the wedge salad to start and was blown away by the flavors! We then ordered truffle sweet potato fries which made all of us extremely happy! They were delectable! Every dish we ordered was presented exquisitely. Dang. After looking through the menu that I downloaded from their website, I was excited to eat from this place, but my excitement turned to disappointment after walking in the door. I was greeted by a server who said she'd be right back. A couple of minutes later, a different server/hostess asked, "Can I help you with something?". "Yeah, I wanted to order some food." (Duh.) I asked about the $5 Yelp Check-in "Tapas" offer, but she said that's only for dinner. No mention of that in the offer and seems weird to only want to attract people for dinner and not lunch. (The word "Tapas" is the title of 2 sections on their online lunch menu, but has been removed entirely from the new paper menu). Fine. The Reuben sandwich I had seen for $10 on their website menu was $12 on the paper menu I was now holding. The hostess said the prices just went up today. Up by 20% just today? Lucky me. Fine. I got my sandwich in about 4 minutes (said it would be 10-15 minutes), so that was nice. The bill had an extra $1 charge for "Open Food". I asked what that was for and the same snobby hostess said it was a standard charge for to-go orders to pay for the box my sandwich was in. Say what? I travel across the country about 200 days a year and haven't encountered a to-go charge before. She said it's common in Los Angeles, though. (So that makes it OK?) I would have paid absolutely nothing extra to the restaurant itself had I sat down and used utensils, napkins, a plate, and a glass that would have to be washed, dried, and stored. C'mon guys, it makes no sense and looks bad. Anyway, my Reuben sandwich was pretty good, but not worth $13. As a matter of fact, there is no food worth lousy service and attitude. Food = 4 stars. Service, pricing, & value issues = 1 star, so I'm giving 2 stars. I will not be back. Follow-up: Brian, your answer still evades the concept of ripping off customers. Make up your mind about what the fee is for. I just can't understand how you can stay in business without charging the fee to ALL your patrons if the small amount of to-go orders that you charge $1 extra for are making a difference. If you have to cover credit card charges with a $1 fee then that fee should be so stated and charged across the board to all customers. I would have paid cash if the fee has been disclosed. But I suspect you are grabbing at straws and just applying a big-city tactic to bump profits up. My guess is that in order to make up for the lost profit on to-go customers not ordering ridiculously marked-up (400% minimum mark-up) beverages, you feel that it's an acceptable business practice to charge a miscellaneous fee on all to-go orders. This is not about $1. This is about hiding fees from customers. read more

406 is our go-to place for the perfect ribeye steak. We really enjoy the cozy lounge which often has good live music. The wait staff is always friendly and efficient and the atmosphere is perfect for a cozy evening as a couple or with friends. We also enjoy the wide variety of tapas, as well as their delicious mule drinks! In nice weather we always enjoy the beautiful patio under the huge tree. Looking forward to another spring and summer outside at 406, but in the meantime we'll enjoy the lounge with a view of the outdoor fireplace! read more

$2544 worth of disappointment. I paid upfront for the 406 grille to be my wedding caterer. Due to extenuating circumstances we had to postpone the wedding. As any one can imagine, there isn't anything more difficult to deal with. This company offered no credit for a future date, no refund and no decency to help when we asked them if they would please do a small family dinner on the same date and time we originally reserved to try to make up some of the damage of us paying $2544. They had two months to book something else on the original date and scheduled nothing and blamed me for this. The groom and I were appalled at such terrible business practice and now we know who not to have cater any event for us or our families in the Kalispell/Glacier/Whitefish area. I can't speak for the food because we never tried it. We just wanted to have a good caterer for our special day and put our money on the wrong company. My advice, gamble elsewhere. read more

Looks like the old restaurant, north Bay, inside (which is fine.) Our waitress was lackluster, seemed scattered and maybe new? I'm guessing not having a good day. The food was good. The buffalo sliders were super. Fries on the side-yum! Hubby got the Jamaician burger and really liked it. We got the ceviche with the above foods, and it was tasty, but I'd recommend you eat it before a heavier tasting dish like a burger because eating it after makes it harder to taste the flavor. We also got the meat/cheese plate -yum! - we agreed it would have been perfect if it had some olives. We'll go back to the 406... After a long day of hiking, my boyfriend and I were seeking a late dinner. Few restaurants were open but luckily we stumbled upon this place and are so glad! We arrived in Kalispell, MT on 06/21/2017 on a road trip. Upon checking local reviews, it was decided to try the 406 Bar & Grill for lunch. There is a parking lot on the side where we found a spot. My wife ordered the Ceaser Flatbread and I ordered the Mister Crunchy with Garlic Fries. Our meal arrived HOT temperature wise and was A-OK. Service was very good and the restrooms were clean.
