I'm not sure how to give a review of a place that's not open on Sunday... Even though their website and yelp, and Facebook say that they are open on Sundays from 6 to 2 PM. I came by because I heard this was a really nice place to go and I am in town for the next two weeks on business. I drove all the way here and there's nothing open. I am SO disappointed after hearing many good things about this location. There's no signs on the door saying that they were closed today so I'm confused. If they are not open, then they should change the days and times on their social media. I gave three stars because this place was very easy to locate and there is ample parking... Owners don't give a fuck about the place anymore and it has been very stale. They let the most drunk, creepy clientele ruin the night for everyone. The speaker system in the main bar is awful so no use playing music on touch tunes because it's going to sound muddy and just not good. The djs are terrible playing the same god awful music causing nobody to feel the need to dance. The djs hit play on a playlist and can basically walk away for the night if they wanted to. They don't try anymore and should be fired and replaced with someone who cares. Bartenders are awesome and mainly the only reason to go. We frequent there nonetheless but it just really sucks watching this place get neglected when the owners waste their money on other things when the community has begged for some changes read more

I am actually impressed, first time being here and their competitor is most likely Heat nightclub in Wilkes-Barre. Heat tends to have only Dance/ EDM music. This is a bar and club had variety 70's through now, mostly 00's. Cover was $4 but can increase. The drinks were a tad more money but it's worth it. The people here are nicer then Heat in my opinion. But honestly, catty people can go anywhere. This one has a great deal of diversity and a older crowd roughly around 10:30pm and younger crowd. Returned to the Twelve-Penny after a three-year hiatus More nice people, the GPS did get it right this time, same old muddy parking lot. Great music and as usual, the club made it a point to publicize the advent of the DC gang to Pennsyltucky as a grand happening, so the place was full of both gay, lesbian and straight couples looking for a great time dancing and having fun. The one thing I noticed after a long absence, is that as we have all become accustomed to the cigarette ban in all DC, New York and Philadelphia establishments, the cigarette stench was overpowering and obnoxious. For such a nice locale, I wish they could have a designated smoking area where they keep the doors closed and the rest of us can breathe. After returning to my hotel room, we had to put our clothes in a sealed plastic bag and even then, I had to vacuum my car and ventilate it to get rid of the cigarette stench. But as bars go, this was a super place. read more

Moosic, PA is a very small blue collar coal mining town near Scranton. Nestled among the beautiful mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania's Anthracite coal region. Who would have ever guessed that an upscale gay bar and dance club would be located here? The 12 Penny Saloon is discreet, there is almost no signage outside. Once inside you'll find a very attractively decorated bar that is clean, comfortable and has good service and reasonable prices. There is a dance club and even a piano bar upstairs (although I'm told that is not often open). There is a room with a pool table. The best part is that it attracts a diverse crowd, both younger and middle-aged, men and women, the staff is friendly, and everyone has a good time. I would like to add that the place is community involved and hosted a gay pride event for the local LGBT Pride Week festivities. read more

Wednesday karaoke is a blast. The bar is filled with mostly men. The dance floor is small and usually uncrowded. The crowd here seems to rather observe the dancers from the outskirts of the floor than participate. Yeah, the crowd. Unfortunately, I'm not fond of the general crowd. It's a bit too cliquey and conservative for me. The crowd embraces the average clean-cut guy, bear, leatherman, and muscle guys. I, on the otherhand, have an alternative style . . . the crowd doesn't particularly take well to this, and I hear about it every time I'm there--loud and clear. So, I'm a bit uncomfortable if this is where my friends decide to take me. I think the average NEPA guy would like this place though. read more

I would say this bar is good. I would never rate any gay bar a 5. The owner is very friendly. The people there are not really friendly, but then again, what gay people are. The club side is only open on friday and saturday night. Saturday and wednesdays are the only days that the club is full. Other than that. it's pretty quiet. I go there time and time again. I'll give this place three starts only because it's there. :-) The place is definately unsuspecting on the outside and does not resemble a gay bar except for the small rainbow in the window. I was there on a Saturday night and that seems to be the night to go! The place was quite packed; definately a selection of cute boys! There's a nice size dance floor and a few pool tables up front I believe too. Drinks were moderately priced and service was quick at the bar in the back. Was there for the first time on a Sunday night. It was dead, but not to be expected on a Sunday night in NEPA. It was hard to figure out where to park. Since 2006, please told me this place was a shithole. My God how wrong they were. Beautiful, classy, wonderfully accommodating bartender who showed us their stage in a separate room. This week I went to the 12 Penny for the first time in several years , the place was remodeled and looks great , the owners and bartenders are fantastic , there is a mixed crowd of all different ages and the place is very clean including the restrooms . terrible! From the outside it looks like it is condemned. The inside feels the same way. The floor is uneven and the ceiling looks like it is coming down in spots. The people are nice and the older bartender with the white hair is ok. I ordered wine, I think it was out of a box and it was salty. The place overall was dirty. I think i will stick to the Wilkes Barre bar. At least it is clean. read more
