I got 2 gift certificates to try this place out, so I brought a friend with me. We were really excited to try something new and possibly find a new gym that we liked. Unfortunately, she lives in Long Beach and they wouldn't honor the gift certificate unless you live within a 10 mile radius. We were given the options of buying a day pass or sign up. After a bit of bickering back and forth, we decided to leave. The 12 may be a good gym - but it def left a sour taste in our mouths. It was def a bummer that we weren't able to try them out and test the ice plunge thing. Oh well. read more

Great workout and music! Loved it! Clean and fun environment with welcoming instructors.

Still sore two days later, in the best way possible! I attended the Abs and Glutes class on Wednesday and absolutely loved it. The bootcamp space is noticeably larger than any other gym I've been to, which makes a huge difference during workouts. The instructor (I believe her name was Meghan) was fantastic! She made sure to walk around and check in with everyone, helping us feel confident and comfortable with the exercises. I'm definitely going back to try out more of the amenities they offer! read more

This review is strictly about their policy, not the actual class or studio experience. I never ended up going. I signed up for their free trial, not realizing it was restricted to people living within 10 miles. I live just outside the limit...about 11 miles...and was told I didn't qualify. Their exact sms: "If you can show that you live within 10 miles with a valid ID, we'd be happy to make an exception for you! If not, no worries at all! We'd still love to have you join us--feel free to purchase a single drop-in class whenever you're ready. We can't wait to see you in action!" It rubbed me the wrong way. While I understand the need for policies, the tone felt dismissive and a bit out of touch, especially considering many people commute or work nearby. Decide for yourself if this is the kind of business you want to support. Definitely not me! read more

i'm super disappointed in the customer service. i arrived early excited for my free first class today, and first, i had filled out the waiver online but the front desk couldn't find it so i had to fill it out again, no biggie but then they asked how i heard of the gym, and i mentioned classpass and they then wouldn't allow me to take class. i didn't say i was a classpass memeber or anything - just the word and i wasn't allowed in. i tend to look gyms up on classpass because it's nice to see what is around and the reviews because there are tons on there and info about the style of classes but i haven't been a memeber in years. she then said i could pay to start a membership which i was looking to do but after i took a class and found out if it was what i was looking for which i thought it would be. at the end of the day, i don't think they should be turning people away that are there at the desk. not to mention she had me waiting there for almost 10 min while she didn't say anything to me so i was expecting more then, no yeah you can't come in after waiting. i don't think it's worth it to turn people away like that because i would've got a membership! read more

Absolutely love this gym and how well they take care of it. The staff is always friendly and helpful as well. I'm on their open gym plan, which comes with 5 sauna/5 cold plunge, which is the only down side as I use saunas regularly. Would like it if they offered a membership that included unlimited sauna sessions. Outside of that, zero complaints. Big kudos to the owne for creating this fine local gym. read more

Never did I think I would love a gym as much as I love The 12. It has forever changed my life for the better. By regularly going to the gym- I have felt more confident about my health (both body and mind). The trainers at The 12 always go above and beyond to make each class session fun but also effective. The fuel bar inside The 12 has the best prepped meals and protein smoothies (the blondies are fantastic here!!) I finally feel comfortable enough to fuel my body what it needs everyday and feel no guilt. Thank you The 12. I recently had a highly disappointing experience at this gym that I feel compelled to share. Prior to our visit, I communicated with a team member named Ariel, who informed me that there were no specific requirements other than arriving around 15 minutes early and bringing our IDs. Following this advice, we arrived at the gym at least 10 minutes prior to our scheduled 4 PM class. Upon arrival, we were not informed about the need to complete a waiver by 4PM as part of your gym's policy. However, we still tried to work on it ASAP. At 3:59 PM, my husband was almost done with filling out the waiver when Ava abruptly informed us that he could not participate in the session because he had not completed the form on time. The manner in which this information was conveyed was neither courteous nor understanding, and the lack of initial guidance regarding this policy was disappointing and frustrating. After this experience, I called the Irvine location and was informed that the front desk staff should have sent us a message about an hour prior to our arrival, outlining the rules and policies as well as a link to fill out the waiver. We never received such a message, which was confirmed by the front desk at the Irvine location as well. This lack of communication resulted in a wasted commute of nearly an hour, and both my husband and I are very disappointed with how we were treated by Ava. The owner got back to me, saying "Ava was simply doing her job to uphold their policy ", which we strongly disagree with. She didn't inform us of the policy until right before the class started. We'd tried to explain our situation to her in every way possible; however, she never tried to investigate the issue for us. How could she reasonably and legally uphold a policy when it was never stated to us as their first-time clients? Additionally, we requested Ava to help us report this issue to the management immediately, since this issue was time-sensitive, but she told us that she had no means to contact the manager or owner right away, so we would have to wait until the next morning to hear back from the management, which is RIDICULOUS. What if emergencies take place and need immediate attention from the management? We're super disappointed with how we were treated by Ava and kindly asked for her apology. The owner of the gym ignored our text and we've not heard back from the owner ever since. Overall, our experience was frustrating and upset due to the lack of clear communication and the unprofessional manner in which the situation was handled. I hope that the owner of the gym will take steps to improve their communication and customer service to prevent this from happening to others in the future. I also hope all existing and future customers are aware of this situation since they might be treated the same way. read more

Whoever is running the 12 now has ruined the gym portion of it. Machines are crammed in there, they remove good machines all the time, no battle rope, and it's dirty. It's pretty sad when even old 24 hr Fitness is nicer than this place! read more

The gym experience was alrighty but the owner is out of control. He audibly yells and insults his employees in front of members. I don't know how he thinks he can run a business like that. I love going to this gym when I'm in the area. It has never been too busy whenever I go so I don't have to wait for a machine like I do at a lot of other gyms. Very clean. I also love to take the classes. Great workout when I'm unmotivated myself I can have someone else kick my butt! read more

I found this gym on ClassPass awhile back and did 2 classes that I loved, until my 3rd class, which was great until the teacher of the 9am class started going on a transphobic rant about her experience at a Korean spa. Everyone is entitled to their views, but I found it to be quite unprofessional, even though I am not transgendered myself. A gym space or any business for that matter in my opinion should make everyone feel welcome and included, and that experience honestly left a bad taste. And as I was leaving class, I noticed on every other TV screen was blasting Fox News. So it can pretty much be concluded this gym's overall political and social views, which is definitely not mine. So if you are not into Fox News and are an ally of the LGBTQ+ community, I would steer clear. The gym was clean and beautiful though and the teacher was great until the aforementioned moment. read more

I initially enjoyed going but did not realize how shady and un customer friendly their policies and "contracts" were. They make canceling and changing your membership extremely difficult until its too late. I initially spoke with one of the front desk saleswomen (who make commission) about transferring my membership from the unlimited to a lower session amount due to my full time job. After making you feel really assured that you have the best option for what you are requesting, it is not in your favor. They dance around the details and it makes me feel like these endeavors are based upon commission incentives from underpaid employees. There are constant roomers of increased rates and scam like policies here and I never thought it would happen to me after going there for 8 months. The trainers are amazing and frankly deserve better than the 12 management style. After speaking my concerns to the 12, one of the owners completely disregards my concerns and continued to talk down to me while simultaneously boasting about all of his businesses. I suggest going to CAZ, Orange Theory, or Moxi at this price point. Especially since this is where all the trainers go to after leaving the 12. read more

I was so looking forward to loving this gym. Things didn't start well when I told the person at the desk I was new and presented my yelp "check in for a free session".... and she wouldn't accept it. So FYI they don't honor the yelp deal they have listed on here. So I paid $25 to drop in since I was there and had been driving most of the day and didn't want to deal with figuring out a plan B I took a group class in the afternoon. The class itself was decent. the music was almost prohibitively loud. The exercises at the different stations were good, and varied. It was a big group, but I didn't see the instructor correct anyone's form even once which is not awesome. Especially not awesome was that a state of emergency was just declared here for corona virus, and the teacher was telling us to shake hands, high 5 each other VERY frequently. I'm not prone to hysteria about corona and not a germophobe (clearly, was at a gym, which at baseline are very dirty places), but some precautions are just reasonable and easy to take. Like wear a seatbelt. Like don't touch the sweaty people in your gym class. We were already sharing equipment, no reason we couldn't have mostly maintained the cdc recommended 6' of personal space. read more

All of the teachers and front desk are great, but the owner has a reputation in Newport for not being professional in his dealings with customers. If you ever freeze your membership - they force you to pay for the months you're not using the service, but do not communicate this. I recommend you cancel as opposed to freeze your membership if you're unable to use the service during the months you're looking to freeze. What a bummer they handle billing inadequately and have hidden fees in their memberships - the staff was really cool. read more

Awesome place to get your ass kicked! I've been trying to find an awesome workout here in the OC since moving here from Chicago. This is the place! I do a lot of other workouts but I feel like the 60 minutes I spend in one of the classes here, is unmatched elsewhere. Be prepared for HIIT/CrossFit-esque workouts that target different areas of the body. The part that makes this class fun, is splitting into groups(great class to bring a friend or SO) and the team atmosphere. Everyone is super nice and encouraging for a place that would seem intimidating. They have a decent size parking lot that can get crowded at peak hours. Amenities are decent and the actual gym area looks like it has everything you'd need if you wanted to come and do a solo workout. Again, you'd be missing out if you didn't try the classes. Huge fun! This is a very personal review of The 12.... It has been 5 years this month (since March 2016) to when I decided to change the direction of my health. I was 198 lbs and teetering towards the two century mark. For my height and age, it was nothing but all bad! In the timeframe that I have been going to The 12, I've made personal gains that I'm incredibly proud of.... With the guidance of all my trainers: Nichole, Uli, Eunice, Brooke, Dana, & Jared, I have maintained a healthier weight and learned to eat better. I have also made some great friendships. I'm normally someone who's fairly introverted, but it's impossible to not engage with the positivity this gym creates. Egos are checked at the door and you never feel like you're being judged. I got introduced to this gym and the direction of my life has changed. Training is part a healthier you and "The 12" fit that part of my life very well, THANK YOU!! read more

There two gyms that whenever I walk in, it just feels like home [ok, you know what I mean!] and this is one of them. It's not just the trainers, but also the staff. Pre-pandemic one of the great things about this location was the constant cleaning around the campus and cleaning the training rooms in between classes. This morning I not only had the opportunity to work out with the lovely Brooke, but also see my other fave staff member, Herman who helps keep everything sanitized. Thanks for a great start to the weekend! After Gavin Newsom closed everything down again, this is one of the only gyms open right now. At a ridiculous $60/ month we were willing to bite the bullet and come workout. From the moment we stepped in, the little girl behind the desk was a complete jerk. From the way she told us to put on masks, to the way she told us to take them off after scanning our temperature, to the fact that their system crashed right before we walked in so we couldn't even sign up for a membership. If there was ANY other option in the area, I'd rather go there. But for this girl, who turned out to be the MANAGER, to be such a jerk to me and my friend, I can't overemphasize my disappointment. I used to manage a gym, and it's all customer service. Will NOT be returning if I can find another option. read more

Absolutely loved this gym, I have referred several people and have always spoken highly of it. The time change they implemented recently has really thrown off what this gym used to be. Their 8:00 closure on the weekdays makes a massive difference on how crowded it gets in that last hour. For someone who works until 6 everyday it's hard to get a full workout in. Have talked to several gym goers that love this gym but are frustrated with the hours. Considering their target market is working professionals that live in the Mesa / Newport area I just wish the hours went back to being open until 9. I would even consider paying more for my membership and I'm sure others would as well. Outside of the hours, there is no better gym in the area. read more

The group training classes are just what I was looking for...something that targets all muscle groups throughout the week, and incorporates cardio for a well rounded fitness routine. Exercises are constantly changing from day to day, week to week, preventing stagnation. The trainers are very knowledgeable and responsive to questions regarding my nutrition and fitness goals. All of the equipment is kept sanitized throughout the day and a deep cleaning performed after closing each day. As of recently, the Hour change for the open gym has taken this gym from an absolute favorite to just slightly being above 24/LA fitness with out the amenities those gyms have and x3 the price they are. The time change has caused the gym to be over crowded from 5-close(8pm) which I know has caused a lot of membership terminations. On top of that, they have very short notice time changes at the gym. They'll randomly need to close the gym earlier with only a day or so notice. Most gyms I go to, if there is gonna be a time change for the duration of a certain day or week/whatever the time frame maybe, they blast there walls week(s) in advance to let there members know, not here! Aside from that, staff is great and guillermo the maintenance man is a pleasure to see everyday! He keeps the gym in tip top shape with a smile on his face every single day. Hopefully my gym member ship doesn't get revoked for this honest review. I hear a lot of stories of the owner terminating memberships without notice and just because. He has a pretty bad rep among all the members I know(I know and talk with about 90% of them) . I'll come back with an update if that occurs read more
