While most of our vendors were already secured, we still needed a florist and a cake designer. Madison's thoughtful recommendations led us to two exceptional vendors who perfectly complemented our vision. She kept everyone on track with timelines, including us, which was much needed given all the fine details. Madison had many great ideas to help us make decisions and her creativity also helped bring it all together. From the very beginning, we had complete confidence in Madison and her team. Their meticulous attention to detail allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the joy of our wedding day, free from worry. We would absolutely recommend getting a wedding coordinator and hiring Madison was the best decision we made. We could not have done it without her and her team. Everything came together flawlessly, and we are forever grateful to Madison and her remarkable team for making our day so unforgettable.

My wife and I hired Ms. Madison Hummel to plan our son's first birthday party. Things started off…read morewell as she seemed excited to work with us but we ran into several issues. The first thing which is off putting is that she charges an additional 20% after the minimum budget of $7500 which is fine but she includes her planning fee of $2800 in the minimum budget. That means you only have a $4700 budget before she starts charging more for anything additional. The second thing is that we had expressed our desires for a venue as far as the aesthetic we are looking for, and some specifics like ample parking and no stairs as we had some elderly family on our guest list. Initially we asked for a restaurant but she encouraged us to find a venue space and cater food. She gave us one option in DC with difficult parking and stairs so we reiterated our wishes. Then she emailed us three venue options. First option- not available on the date we specified Second option- too far out of the city and way over budget 3. a lower budget option which really didn't have the aesthetic we had discussed. We were disappointed with the venue options because we felt like she cornered us into choosing the one out of our budget. Because we were disappointed with the final options she gave us, we found our own venue and got a contract with a restaurant. Thirdly, we expressed to Madison how we wanted to incorporate a small cultural ceremony that involved some research on her part if she was going to be decorating it. Since she was not familiar with it, we asked that she collaborate with another event designer that specifically prepares the cultural ceremonies. Madison immediately took offense but agreed to work with her once we agreed to include the venue and ceremonial vendor into the minimum budget- so basically she was ok with it as long as she made money from it. Lastly, as all this was unfolding in a matter of a few days, she emailed us and told us that she was no longer providing her services since we found our own venue and had another planner. We called her immediately to figure out what was going on and she said her mind was already made up which we felt was unprofessional to quit rather than try to resolve any issues. She stated in the email she was quitting because she felt she wasn't needed since we found our own vendor and had someone decorating a ceremonial table for us but that she would be keeping our deposit of $1400. SHE QUIT AND KEPT THE DEPOSIT. Overall we felt that she was not a good listener, was pushy with her own agenda- making more money off of us, and unprofessional in the way she handled quitting. I would not recommend her!

As a person who has experience with event planning, I knew I just needed someone who wasn't me or my spouse to coordinate some of those last minute details and to keep track of all of the pieces that go into a event (it also helped to have a professional to talk my wedding crazed spouse through stuff and stop bothering me about it). I am NOT one of those women who have been planning their wedding day since I was a little girl, so it was refreshing to talk mostly logistics and best practices without feeling like a bridezilla (I'm looking at you, Macy's registry who kept trying to register me for frilly plates that I didn't want). Sarah met with me for coffee to walk me through the range of day of coordinator versus full wedding planning packages, and I felt instantly comfortable with her. Since we were approximately six weeks out from the wedding, we did end up going with day-of coordination. Sam was my day of coordinator (with an assist from Kate), and they did such an excellent job. Prior to the event, Sam definitely talked me through one of my freakout moments when the venue "unapproved" our seating chart the day before and wanted to exile a table to 150 feet away from everyone else. Sam ensured that we stayed on schedule and that I had food, and remained professional and calm throughout the whole event. Seriously, I cannot recommend Pollyanna Events highly enough! Note: Pollyanna Events explicitly states that they're feminist on their yelp business description, and their literature with their package pricing was literally one of the first wedding industry items where I saw LGBT couples, interracial couples, and older couples. I was also determined to try to direct my wedding business to women owned or minority owned businesses, and I'm so happy I found such an excellent one.

She did the full decor set up with very little instruction (I believe we said "gourds everywhere, make it pretty") and it was STUNNING. She has a great eye for what looks best. Could not recommend Kara enough!

She and the CapRo team were great resources as we had questions throughout the planning process, giving us advice and connecting us with previous clients who used the vendors we were pursuing. Jeff and Fred were true professionals and played a variety of music without much direction from me. The duo arrived ahead of time, had good communication with us. I'm not exaggerating when I say family and friends still talk about how awesome he was and how much fun they had. Another DJ who was booked for our date actually recommended Chris and I immediately recognized his name from the radio thinking there was no way we could afford this famous DJ. He was super affordable and the packages he offered were comparable to others in the area. We met with Chris in person to go over the event and he was so sweet - we clearly didn't know what we wanted and he was super patient. Chris even gave us some sample timelines of other couples so we had something to copy. Our wedding was at Turf Valley and Chris was familiar with the venue, so he had some really good suggestions - he actually was the reason we extended the reception an extra hour, which we are so glad we did! Chris had 2 conference calls with us where we went through some key songs (father/daughter, first dance, etc.), but we just let him take the reigns on everything else and he absolutely KILLED IT! We used Chris before he had the photo booth and other services, but I'm sure those are top notch as well. I would (and do) recommend Chris to everyone! Anyone getting married or planning another type of party knows how stressful it can be and I didn't have to worry one bit about the music, Chris had it handled and made our day perfect.
