I love when they do themes; My favorite was the Alice in Wonderland (book displays and amazing decorations throughout the library). My other favorite was from February, relating to Valentine's day: 'go on a blind date with a book' on the display upstairs. the books on display were beautifully wrapped with the only bar code showing, so you would check it out and then unwrap it for the 'date.' So creative. You can tell how passionate they are about reading, and how much they enjoy their work. They have a small area just for teens. Play area and big checker board downstairs in the children's library; I always encourage my students to visit. I've received tons of books through inter-library loan.

It always feels good to be greeted by name and with a smile. My older boys like "The Bob" -- the Robert Cormier teen room -- a lot and attend the monthly trading card Duel Night. My youngest son loves Sarah's reading/singing hour. Bathrooms are always clean. Great book selections and quite a good amount of toys in the children's room. They need a lot more DVDs, though, IMO, and could get rid of all the video tapes.

There has been quite a few building upgrades which were much needed. They were also done without affecting the beautiful stone exterior and the old windows of the building. Inside is cozy and unique. There are three floors. You walk in the main entrance to the adult and sections on both sides. There is a balcony above where many more books are located. If you go downstairs, there is a great children's section. The staff is all very sweet and accommodating. They are all there to help and are great with recommendations or with locating material. They do many activities and meetings in this building. They also have passes available for local museums and parks. There was a major technology upgrade as well. Gone are the days of the massive card catalog with the lengthy drawers of cards stating the location and reference information of the books. There are now several laptops you can borrow for the sitting area or look up and get your book checked out all via computer programs. It's a great spot to bring a coffee in and browse or read for hours. Love this little place. Ps- it also doesn't get crazy crowded and there doesn't seem to be many unwanted visitors that pass through here.

Sandstone High schools…read moreand towers The Gale Free Library is a stunning and amazing building indeed. The building is actually called The Damon Memorial Building and until 1926 housed both the high school and the library. The high school received it's own building and the Gale Library took over the entire building. The library is made of lovely granite from local quarries with brown sandstone trim and the roof is black and red slate from the state of Maine. The library was designed by the famous Boston architect Stephen Earle in the Romanesque Revival Style and even includes a clock tower. The money for the library was donated by Sam and Susan Damon Gale and was opened in 1888. This was the great era of library building and the inside is as impressive as the outside. A stunning and wonderful building, libraries like this will never be built again.

Granite clocks and…read morebells The Princeton library is simply amazing. Not just impressive or kind of cool but just amazing. Difficult to come up with the proper adjectives to describe this library, especially consider what an itty, bitty little town Princeton is. The library's beginning was in 1884 when the generous and obviously very wealthy Edward Goodnow gave some money to have a library built. Actually Goodnow wanted a building built to be part library and part school. Another school for the kids was built around 1900 so the library took over the entire building. And what a building it is. Made of rose tinted granite and framed by brownstone, the building includes a huge clock tower with a thousand pound bell that still rings out every single hour. The site was selected because it had a great view and the library is indeed an imposing and stunning sight as you enter into the very, small town of Princeton. Once inside it just gets better. An incredible spiral staircase, the only one I have ever seen in a library is just the start. Lovely stained glass, great old pictures and some wonderful antique furniture is scattered about along with great wooden shelves and doors. Had to describe a library this wonderful. What made it even better were the two sweet and friendly librarians that took the time the tell us all about the incredible library that they were so proud of. I don't know if any library can ever be called perfect for everybody. But the stunning library in the tiny town of Princeton is as close to perfect as I've yet seen.

Another high score on curation, for this library's relevant, up-to-date collection of non-fiction topics. High score on community building, for the library's events such as the recent documentary film series on sustainable agriculture.

The Conant Library was original built back it 1871 and has been updated and changed throughout the…read moredecades. A major renovation was in 2002 when the library was closed for two years and opened again better than ever. Seen from the outside the library is a lovely but not extravagant building that seems to blend in well with the rest of the small town. Inside the library is very pleasant but again nothing extravagant or exceptional elegant. Just very pleasing and useful areas that are all well organized. The Conant Library has a nice children's department and a community room where lots of events and lectures take place. A very attractive and useful library that has served the community for a long time.

Quilts clocks and…read morebaseballs The Beaman Memorial Library is a medium sized library constructed in 1911. It reminds me a lot of an old school building but as far as I can tell it was originally built as a library. Beaman Memorial has a pleasant charm that only old libraries can have and even though the outside looks rather pedestrian, the inside reveals a different perspective. Lovely fireplaces, windows, staircases and curved walls as well as random statues, library quilts and even a cool old baseball collection gives the old library a real personality. The librarians are very friendly and of course the library has wifi and the usual modern library stuff. A pleasant library that has managed to retain it's own personality while heading off into the future.
