The Short Version:
Brazilian bakery on the ground floor of an office building. Items I had were just ok in my opinion, but Brazilian baked goods are rare in Ottawa, so I'm glad this bakery opened.
The Long Version:
That's Bananas is in the Qualicum Complex Tower B. It's on the ground floor of an office building. It's where the second location of Whatta Sandwich used to be (Whatta Sandwich is still around, but just have their original location on Metcalfe St now).
The space is large and is very colourful inside. They have done their best not to make it feel like an office building cafeteria, but you can tell that that was the original intention of the space, lol.
I've tried several different items and overall my opinion was the baked goods were just ok. Some a bit better than others.
The Sonho (a custard filled donut) was ok. The donut was a bit dry, as was the custard. The custard was a bit starchy and the outside was a bit crusty. It was aesthetically pleasing though.
The chocolate chunk cookie was the best item I had. However it was too sweet and too rich for my liking (I think most people would love the cookie, I'm weird in that I don't like too much sugar or too much butter).
The cinnamon roll tastes dry to me and I did not enjoy it all that much.
The pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) had good flavour but was much denser than others that I've had.
I did see a guava crepe roll that looked interesting, but I did not get it. Maybe next time.
Service was pleasant and they had a lot of items that are harder to find in Ottawa.
I'm thrilled to have a Brazilian bakery in Ottawa. I love diversity and I love having lots of choices.
The food I tried I would rate as 3 stars, but they seem to be a small independently owned local business and have tried to create something different, so I'm rating 4 stars in good faith.
The place is a bit confusing to find as the complex is made up of 3 buildings. It's the building with lots of picnic tables on the side of it. There's a parking lot with some free visitor parking. Be mindful of the signage as some spots are for tenants of the buildings only.
