Thali Thali's an excellent alternative to standard curryhouse fare. There are no plastic plants and no white wicker chairs here; instead the restaurant feels something like a train carriage, being long and thin and furnished mostly with comfortable upholstered benches in browns and purples.
The most unusual thing, though, is the innovative menu, which features several interesting and helpful explanations of the dishes, including a section which details the history of the chicken tikka masala, and offers both this classic British dish and its more authentic equivalents. The spicy baked salmon starter I had was melt-in-the-mouth delicious, and all of our main dishes were beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Unlike in some curry restaurants where all the dishes blend together somewhat in terms of taste and consistency, we were delighted to find subtlety of flavour and a wide range of textures.
While Thali Thali is not a cheap option, it is worth a visit simply because it diverges from the norm, and does so very well. It's true that if you like your curries uniformly greasy and wet, it probably isn't the place for you, but if you're willing to be a bit adventurous then I heartily recommend it. read more
