My meal was really tasty and tasted very authentic. The tofu was also very good! I also had the Thai tea which was delicious. The restaurant itself is really nicely decorated and the service was fast. We made a reservation to sit at one of the Thai Tables, even though there is a hole underneath to put your legs through so it isn't really a traditional "sit-on-the-floor" type of situation. The only complaint I have is that meal sizes are a bit too small for the price. I don't have the largest appetite in the world but I still left feeling not 100% full. But maybe that's just because my meal was good and I wanted more of it

Staff is friendly, the restaurant is very nicely…read moredecorated, noise level is unobtrusive, etc. The food is, well, overpriced, just like others have already stated - think roughly 15 Euros for a vegetarian meal and about 18 for a meat dish. The focus here is on appearance and on sauce. Thus, you will receive a dish that looks visually stunning - but there won't be much to it. In essence, you will receive whatever your chosen main ingredient is, doused in a sauce. It's fine, but it's completely overpriced for what you get. You can apply this rule to just about any dish we ordered. Tofu and Chili? It's really just fried tofu and and a few slices of chili pepper in a spicy sauce. Would it have hurt them to add a few veggies? Of course, you might say that the food is exactly what the description says - and that is certainly true. However, I do NOT find this to be true at any of the rather many Thai restaurants I've eaten at around the globe. Maybe it's a German thing? The red curry followed the same principle - there was, however, a tiny bit of variation in it. We counted four peas. Three halves of mushrooms. Some carrot slices. And lots of cabbage. That seemed a bit lame. Alas, you know what took the cake: Mini Corn out of jar!!! I have no idea who in their right mind still uses mini corn in any dish, let alone a Thai dish - all I know is that's it's a big N O. Overall, our experience was nice - but this restaurant is not really up to snuff. I think Germany is still desperately trying to incorporate it's "multi-kulti" aspirations in the culinary scene - and things are improving. For now, the German palate still has not reached a comprehensive understanding of the wide array of food that is available. Sure, each cuisine is tailored to local tastes anywhere in the world - and that "customization" can be offensive if you expect "authentic." It's akin to eating Chinese food in Latin America. Or "Mexican" in Germany (I've tried - I don't think that really exists). So, if you want Thai, then this is certainly acceptable. Don't expect to get any real Thai food - expect a bare minimum that caters to the German palate. It's close enough for now. I don't think I would go back. There are, quite apparently, better venues to be tried.

Food are traditional Thai staples, all executed in high quality, and at decent value. Delicious! BTW when they say spicy, they don't mean Thailand-spicy, which is senible, but if that's what you are after, be sure to tell them. Good little selection of wines, too. As of June 2023, the set menus didn't seem to offer much additional value, you might be better off ordering a la carte as we did. Liked it a lot, deserves more traffic as probably the second Thai restaurant to be taken seriously in Hamburg, now.

FOOD: If you've been in Thailand already, this place is a direct ticket back ther. If you haven´t, it is the perfect occassion to start diving into the culture. Portions are good and the quality of the food and taste reaches the expectations. I try a different dish every single time but I highly recommend the Pad Ka Prao with chicken. TIP: Pump it up by asking for an fried egg on top! PLACE: This is not a romantic place or area, so don´t plan your 1 year anniversary here. But it is the perfect place to have a quick lunch if you live or work in the area. Sabai Jai is my number 1 lunch place during work days. It is a restaurant for such occassions and not really for nights out or special events (bear that in mind). There is also a lot of parking available all the time and an Ubahn stop minutes if not seconds away. The restaurant is also very traditional, just watch out for little thai traditions here and there. SERVICE: I am still not sure about how friendly the staff is, but then again my expectations are pretty low in Germany. Somehow I feel they are always off in space instead of focusing 100% on the customer and a smile here and there would do no harm. However this is part of the whole experience at this restaurant.
