I was disappointed by the lack of transparency when paying my bill. My total at the register was $88, and when prompted to tip, I added $13, believing no gratuity had yet been included. Later I realized there was already a $13 service charge added to the bill, which was not clearly pointed out to me at checkout. If the restaurant automatically includes a service charge, that should be clearly disclosed before asking customers to add an additional tip. It feels misleading to present a tip screen without making that obvious, especially when many customers are paying quickly at the counter and may not catch it in time. Food was eh if you like sweeter type of foods then this would be for you.. all the sauces were sweet even the pho broth was sweet but we went for dinner here me and my little family of four and ended up paying $72 the actual total was $50 something but they add gratuity themselves which would be fine if the service was actually good. Our server older gentleman was just in a "rush" everytime he came to talk to us, even when we got our order I asked for a plate of white onions and jalepenos, before I even finished my jalepeno word he already turned his back and said okay! And sure enough he never even brought the side order I requested and even our waters, both were empty and not even refilled the time we were there.. so why take a good tip if you can't give good service?? Such a weird experience. I was at work and lunch break was approaching and I knew that I was craving some Tom Yum. I looked at Thai places near me and Thai This just edged out Tuk Tuks by a couple minutes. I hadn't been to Thai This before so I decided to pass on one of the best Thai restaurants in the valley, Tuk Tuks, and roll the dice on a new place. Well I rolled snake eyes. When I entered I saw the tables were set up in the standard way most Pho places set up the tables. I also saw the majority of customers were eating Pho. Oh well, they had Tom Yum on the menu so I ordered it. What I gained in the shorter drive I lost in the wait for my soup. I'm guessing because Tom Yum isn't ordered often, so it wasn't more or less ready to go. When I got the soup I was very surprised. There were large chunks of pineapple, lots of snow peas, a cloudy broth, no basil and no outward sign of chilis. Then I tasted it and well, I didn't satisfy my craving for Tom Yum because this didn't hit any of the spots that a good Tom You does. It did have some heat, but it was very much in the background. It didn't have that bright sour flavor. It didn't have that fish sauce note. Lemongrass wasn't noticeable, galangal wasn't noticeable, herbs were not noticeable. I think they were trying to make a Tom Yom that they imagined would not offend the locals with the strong flavors it is known for, so they tried to make it sour with pineapple chunks instead of lime juice. Cut the herbs and spices way back or just eliminated them all together, and then for whatever reason thought earthy snow peas would be a good addition. Not for me. I don't know if their main dish, the Pho, is any good and I never will because I'm going to pass on Thai This next time. I did end up getting my Tom You fix a few days later when I went to Tuk Tuks. read more

This place is a great find. I was staying at a nearby hotel and saw this place while driving by. I placed an order to go and brought it back to the hotel. I am still eating as I write this and couldn't be happier. I ordered the fresh spring rolls (there were four) massaman and red curry. The spring rolls are huge and filled with a great variety of veggies and shrimp, peanut sauce is not think but tasty. Both the curries are chock full of veggies and meat as well. I hate leaving a negative review but this place isn't worth your buck at all. My friend and I ordered *spicy* papaya salad, pad Thai, and wide rice noodles. The environment itself was not welcoming and we decided to give this place a go. The first thing we received was the papaya salad which was supposed to be spicy but it was very sweet instead. Which left us with the two remaining dishes that we did not finish. They had no flavoring but also it was VERY oily. The portion with how much beef was in my noodle dish was bad and I had to find a couple of pieces because none were present. We didn't even finish 1/4 of the meals and we just couldn't eat them because of the oily ness and how flavorless it was. Overall, I wouldn't return. Despite the delay in service at the beginning (it was just me sitting down to eat), I had excellent service and care from the owner Minh. He even brought out homegrown grapes from his own garden to sample and gave me a bunch of persimmons he grew too. I'm so happy Thai This finally reopened in their new location! It was a long wait, but worth it! This is the best Thai restaurant in the Salt Lake valley. Everything is fresh and flavorful. My favorites are the garlic chicken stir fry, massamun curry and Thai This fried rice. Their pho is good too. Come hungry, or plan on leftovers. This place does not skimp on the size of their entrees. While everyone else has been increasing prices and downsizing their dishes, Thai This has kept their prices reasonable and still provides a ton of food. We were confused by the front of the restaurant with signs that say "Thai & Pho" when looking at the menu we saw Thai, Laotian, and Vietnamese food all in one. I asked the gentleman that took our order where the chef is from and he said "Laos". So I wanted to try some Laab as I fell in love with it in Southern Cali, unfortunately it wasn't that great and wasn't prepared correctly and didn't have the right flavor. First time going to Thai This. The place looked somewhat busy for a Thursday night. The wait wasn't bad, and the manager was friendly. We got the masaman and yellow curries, which came with a box of rice. The rice was fresh, moist (yes, I use that word), and sticky. The masaman curry with chicken was worth the mouth burn, it was freshly cooked. The yellow curry with chicken had a nice sweetness, and a little heat. Very disappointed in the service. We we were sat and did not get our menus until like 10-15 minutes later. We placed our order and waited finally our food started being served in pauses . They would bring one plate then go serve another table. Another plate and then serve another table. I thought this was not professional. Delicious, fresh and predictably fantastic. I've been a frequent patron at this tiny Thai restaurant for a couple of months now for a very good reason. Why? Because I have tried a wide variety of the dishes from the menu and can't find a thing that I don't find completely delectable! Not to mention clean, quiet, friendly and priced to suit even a seriously tight budget, and the portions are simply huge. Just because it's a Thai menu does not mean it has to be spicy either. Just let your server know your personal spice tolerance level, 1 - 10 for a personalized taste experience. I haven't been here for awhile but decided today that Massaman curry was much needed for a take out lunch. Unfortunately it seems that Thai This is starting on a downhill trend, or at least is being very inconsistent with lower reviews than I remember. Thinking back on when I had this almost weekly in the past and looking at recent pictures of curry bowls, mine resembled neither. I had less than half of the container filled with sauce and while dishing out into a bowl with rice I found huge lumps of the curry paste unmixed. The chicken is almost a semi-translucent slice of something, I've never seen anything like it. There is SO MUCH BETTER curry out there in SLC, I'm not sure how they think this slop is going to keep them in business. It is, unfortunately, the worst curry I've had in the state.
