They also have a downstairs bar too with seating that was also booked and packed. Nice variety of dishes, chef curated plates that were visually pleasing to the eye. The drinks while good and unique were carefully measured and extremely small for the price points. 3 cocktails and I didn't feel buzzed. I feel like Australia is very big on preventing intoxication. One of the few places that had knowledgeable staff and to my surprise actually nice and welcoming. I tried the BBQ Salmon wrapped in a banana leaf, braised beef curry, and a couple of drinks. Rather your traveling or a local who hasn't tried this place, it definitely should be on your radar. I was traveling from California and ChinChin was by far the most memorable dining experience I had.

Good menu with a lot of interesting options. Tried three different appetizers and the winner was the sashimi. Wonderful flavors with king fish. The butter chicken with curry was excellent. Just wish it came with some naan to soak up that wonderful sauce. Cocktails are creative and great. Just a bit measured and small, but I get it. Would dine here again and again.

One afternoon I decided to do just that and I have to admit that it was okay, but nothing really all that fantastic. They call themselves a Pan Asian Beer Bar, and seem to be providing an alternative to the Asian Beer Cafe upstairs. It is a bit flashier than the other, but it really didn't grab me as much. Sure, it is much easier to get a seat, and the décor is nice, though the beer selection didn't seem to be all that huge. While it is fairly convenient, it isn't one of those places that I'd probably go back to all that often.

Tucked away in Menzies Alley is Monkey King, a Bar/Restaurant inspired by the Chinese 16th century novel 'Journey to the west'. Beers are served in the usual pots and pints, but there is no sign of any old scratchy plastic jugs that other bars seem to prefer. Instead they use over sized ceramic teapots to serve beer in, which is a nod to the prohibition times of the 1920's. The waiter guided us through the menu, which is designed to share and took us on the Monkey King journey through China, Korea and India. We selected the Beef skewers and a assortment of dumplings to start with, then shared the curry of the day, which was a velvety Malaysian chicken curry. Once we finished dinner we moved into the bar area and treated to a live acoustic duo. Which was a great way to finish the night. Monkey King has something different every night from free entertainment to a Mario Kart Comp every Thursday. The team at Monkey King are genuinely keen on making sure you enjoy your experience. Cheers Monkey King looking forward to our next journey together.

With remarkably attentive service, innovative presentation and cool decor, the whole was greater…read morethan the sum of its parts, by which I mean the dishes we had. The biggest winner was the thing with the ocean trout and some other exotic flavors. (It had a more exotic name than "trout" which is what was printed on the receipt.) The scallops and Brussels sprouts (prepared in the trendy way) were tasty, but others were just OK: - the wonton with "snake bean" - basically tasted like what American Asian restaurants usually call "red bean." - The duck money bags were fairly bland, but the duck bit on the side was tasty - Roti bread appetizer was probably both healthier and less tasty than the greasier versions I've had with richer cream curry sauces. The drinks were thoroughly excellent - both the cocktails (including the balanced, fresh-tasting "Trifecta") and the curated bottles including the red duck porter (wonderfully smokey) and the Napolean Pear cider (perhaps the best balanced cider I've ever had). Unfortunately we felt full after the above dishes so didn't get to try the others that tempted us (pastrami and pork belly) but would definitely come back here the next time in Melbourne.

We began with cocktails. I can highly recommend the Boston cobbler. 2 of us ordered vegan and the other two took advantage of the full menu. The waiter went through our options but we knew from previous visits we were getting the house made red curry. Perfectly spicy with delicious squares of tofu fried with rice noodles. He also recommended we get the wontons. These were incredible! The wrapper was so silky and the snake bean and sweet potato filling amazing! It was drizzled with a sweet soy and vinegar sauce. These were a highlight. Other exceptional meals ordered this time were scallops (perfectly cooked), pork belly (crispy and delicious), wagyu beef (a must!), crispy crab legs, calamari curry, snake bean and broccoli side and caramelised eggplant and tofu. Not a thing to complain about! We were so full by the end it was hurting. Without doubt we will be back!

Every dish was a flavour-packed masterpiece, and by course six we were so blissfully full we needed a brief intermission... thankfully, it arrived right on cue with the spectacular dragon dance weaving through the restaurant! Luckily we were able to snag the last seats at a communal high top table before their next reservation came in. The interior has lots of brick and is extremely hip. They're super cautious of allergies, asking at the start of the meal, supplying a color-coded water cup to those who have them, and carefully denoting which menu items are a no-go. The attention to detail and caution was extremely appreciated and shows that they run a tight ship. The menu is Asian with a modern twist. They're really about their craft beer selection too. Family style is the name of the game. They'll course everything out as it's ready and the dishes are served in small to mid-size shareable portions. Sadly I can't remember what we ordered (5 months ago) but what I do remember is that everything was delicious!
