I'm surprised at all the high reviews since this is a local type of restaurant in a neighborhood plaza. The place is tiny, only has 2 tables placed very close together. I don't even think they have bathrooms for use. The service was very nice and dishes came out fairly quickly. I would say the portions are pretty small for the price: Crispy chicken $15.95 -this one made me wonder if I ordered an appetizer by mistake. While it was tasty, there were only 9 pieces of chicken! That's probably one large chicken thigh! No way it should be $15.95 S-2 BBQ rib dinner $17.50 -probably the best dish out of everything, the rice takes up most of the plate though. Ribs were tasty but there isn't that much meat on each one Papaya Salad $15.50 -this one was a little too drenched in sauce, which made it too sour for my liking. I would've rather they left the sauce on the side I was still hungry after the meal so portions are definitely small. I might be back because I'm curious about the $20.95 Gulf of Siam: shrimps, scallops, squids, mussels and sole fillet, stir-fried with chili paste sauce, onion, green onion and tomatoes

A solid go-to for Thai food. Good quality and tasty. Legit value overall. Good service.

I thought this Thai Original BBQ would be the same as the Cerritos location but they seem different. This location is cash only and there are only 2 tables for dine in. We opted to dine in because we wanted to eat right away. The staff are extremely nice and friendly.

I have always wanted to try this place and today I did! I ordered Phad Thai noodles with chicken only and green curry for to go. I did not want to eat at the restaurant as they were getting ready to close for the night. I was hoping this place would be delicious and it was! The Phad Thai noodles were not dry at all. The flavors were authentic and the noddle were saucey to my liking! The curry was flavorful as well and not too spicy. I would highly recommend this place because the food is good and the prices are affordable! The restaurant was clean as well! There is good value in the portion sizes! I did not finish my noodles so there are left overs for the next day! If you are ever in the Pacifica area close to Serramonte mall please check out this local business and show them some love! The only thing I did not like was the CASH ONLY payments!

I haven't been to Thai Original BBQ since it was located on Gellert before the Mercedes dealership took over that strip mall. I remember the food being good, solid home-cooking. I decided to pick-up dinner recently and called in my order. It's important to note that they no longer accept credit cards. It's a cash-only establishment. The person who took my phone order was kind enough to let me know they beforehand so I made sure I had enough cash. The restaurant is takeout only. There aren't even tables set-up for dine-in. I ordered a pad Thai, a bbq chicken with shrimp fried rice and a curry catfish. The pad Thai is a 8/10. I like that it came with large shrimps and crushed peanuts on the side. Hubby really enjoyed the bbq chicken and fried rice. He gives it an 8/10. The catfish came deep fried with a side of red curry sauce. The batter was crispy but the fish hit the mark and was really bland without the curry sauce. This is a 5/10 for me, something I wouldn't order again. Overall a good choice that's nearby for me when craving Thai food. Total for three items came out to $51.

This place is to go only. No place to eat there. Food was ready in 15 minutes. It was hot, tasty and good. Ordered Chicken Ruby, short ribs and papaya salad. They all tasted good to me! I would go again. The poultry was really a Cornish hen stuffed with rice and other stuff and the whole thing was fried. It was good. We cut it up at home. It also came with a good scoop of tomato rice. Papaya shrimp salad was good. The short ribs were nicely marinated and deep fried. Tender inside and crispy outside. They have a large menu and I enjoyed my meal and I would go back. Fast, friendly and tasty food

Ask the Community - Thai Original BBQ

Is the new location open yet?

Confirmed - they are the ones who were on Gellert and they're open today

Have they found a new location? I know that whole strip mall is closing by the end of April. I hope they find a new location.

Fairmont Center by Hickey and Skyline in the plaza with Safeway, Rite Aid, and Dollar store. It will be around the corner from Starbucks. They replaced Sam's Kitchen

Do they have anything that is gluten free?

I don't think so. My sister's teacher went there, she just sat while others ate. But I don't have a definite answer. Sorry.

As soon as we sat down, we had a feeling it'd be good. It's not super clean nor modern, it's very no frills, unassuming both inside and out with decor such as photos of the King of Thailand on the walls. For food, we ordered the combo seafood kha-prow, which had calamari, shrimp, and Thai basil, as well as the kai-yang, Thai style BBQ chicken. The kha-prow had a nice subtle kick to it and the BBQ chicken was delicious! Super juicy, a great char to it, with some nice sauces served with it. We had this with jasmine rice. For dessert, we got the mango sticky rice and the coconut ice cream, both excellent. There was a slight hiccup on our bill, it had things crossed out/written over (small business style) and they made a mistake, but no worries, we pointed it out and they fixed it. Also, calculate your own tip, as the percentages shown are based on the totals, not the subtotals as it should be.

It's nice to support smaller local businesses, especially ones off the beaten path. It's on a quiet street with not much else around it. Great place to go if you want a quiet meal. Their menu is on their website, however, the prices haven't been updated in quite a while. Refer to their in-restaurant menu for current pricing. It was very easy to place my order by phone, and it didn't take long for my order to be ready. My food has always been ready by the time I reach the restaurant. Parking has never been a problem. There is a huge parking lot next to the restaurant, plus some street parking right out front. This place has that small local family restaurant vibe. If you're expecting a modern, high energy, trendy experience, and being waited by saccharine servers ... well, then this isn't the place for you. The older grandpa-like gentleman who greets customers is quite nice. It's clear English is not his native language, and I can see how this might contribute to people getting the impression that he is rude. Don't be put off by this. I know people, whose native language in English (myself included), who are still struggling with the English language. - Pad Thai with chicken This is something I almost always get when I go to a Thai restaurant. It's one of those "must haves". It's your standard pad thai dish. - Pad See Ew with chicken You'll like this if you like Chinese Chow Fun, they both have the wide flat noodles. This dish skews a bit on the sweet side. I wasn't expecting this the first time I had this dish. Thai Tapioca with coconut milk(?) on top Not on the menu. This was a complimentary dessert they threw in with my most recent order. It was so yummy, I forgot to take a photo of it after digging into it. The green part is tapioca with small diced taro bits.

First off, this is legit Thai food. I was pleasantly surprised…read more Secondly, I don't like potato in my curry or mild Thai food(yellow curry) and I don't like peanut butter or Pad thai so this is just a review of Spicy Pork Green Curry. (Kaeng kiew wan) It's good curry. I am very picky and have given up on finding many decent curries these days. If you are a yelper that has ever said, "I ordered mild and it was too spicy", you ruined alot of good restaurants for me. Poor folks became petrified to cook like the home country anymore. I've had to beg and have deep sociological discussions just to get spicy food. I've even offered to sign a waiver If you left a bad review because you said "I like it spicy" and then your face got burned off and you're feelings were hurt, we can never be friends. If I had to pick at the curry I had tonight, the pork could have been fresher and it was just a tad too sweet. Other than that I would call it a perfect green curry.(which I seldom say these days) What got me to even try this place was the pictures on yelp showing eggplant in the green curry. It was done perfectly. I've asked for spicy in the past at other restaurants and they would simply add more curry paste, wrong answer! This changes the whole flavor profile. They didn't have a fresh chili in the whole place.(just some soaked in fish sauce) This curry had fresh thai chilies, kefir lime leaf, purple basil and just red bell pepper and eggplant. Perfect. The best curry I've ever had had fresh bamboo shoots in it but it is not Berkeley in the 90's any longer. Keep your canned shoots out of my curry. And if I have a choice of eggplant over zucchini, I'm there! They gave me some thai style crushed dry red pepper too which I have come accustomed to even when there are fresh chilies present. This curry didn't burn my face off but they did take me seriously(over the phone no less) and so I will definitely return. I hope they serve Larb as well and Pad Kra Pao. This could be the start of a beautiful relationship

We ordered the Pineapple Painkiller and the Passionrita for drinks - $12 per cocktail (which feels like an insane deal in the bay area). Both were juicey and refreshing. To start, we got the Samosa Curry Puff. It was sinfully buttery, flakey, and full of curry flavored potato. The sweet and tangy cucumber salad on the side balances out the buttery decadence of the puff. Delicious and very filling to have 2 per person . The crispy rice salad, ohhhh my goodness. Insane flavor profile - super umami, crispy, and refreshing at the same time? Beware, we got the medium spicy, ignorant to the fact that Kan Kiin uses the THAI level spices. My mouth was on FIRE but the flavor was toooo good to stop eating. Absolutely delicious 11/10 We shared a Cloudy Chicken for the main. The chicken was fried crispy with sweet umami sauce clinging onto the skin. Another flavor bomb - goes super well with rice. Getting the crispy noodle bits that get blessed by the sauce is chefs kissss. The portions are pretty big, so we had leftovers and no space for mango sticky rice. The biggest deterrent was just the wait...they have a waitlist but don't do reservations. We got there at 3:05pm on a Saturday and were the 2nd ones in line. At 3:30pm, staff came out to set up some benches and queue poles, and there were probably 50 people in line then. By 4pm restaurant open, there were probably 100+ people in line...If you're coming on a weekend, I'd recommend coming at 3:15pm to get 1st seating. I brought a camping chair in preparation and was quite pleased with my decision LOL. I heard weekdays aren't as bad. It's located in a residential neighborhood so street parking was reasonable to find but it is located on a hill. The inside is clean and homey with brand posters in Thai posted on the walls. Even though they're known for curries, our group isn't big on them so while we ordered a LOT of food, we didn't get any curries. They're also known for their kaya toast but we also didn't get it but TWO separate parties next to us were celebrating their birthdays there and they both got it and it looked so tasty. Service was fast and responsive. They ask for your spice level and we noted mild and I felt that to be true. Everything was tasty and flavorful but our top 3 were: Khao Pad Mun Nuer with Soy Cured Egg Yolk, Pad See Ew, and Khao Soi Pad Haeng! - Crispy Papaya Salad: tasty and unique take on papaya salad. Kind of huge though, definitely need to share with a group - Crispy Shrooms Yum Yum with Ground Pork: this was our friend's favorite! - Nuer Nam Tok (boneless short rib): loved the short rib! Comes with cucumber and lettuce for you to wrap it in. They ask you to mix the dish together and it had a spot with red spices in the corner and I accidentally ate a serving with a bunch of it and got kind of cooked lol but spice levels were good other than that! - Pad Ped Nuer Sabb (very spicy ground beef): really flavorful and not actually that spicy even with the warning and I'm saying this as someone that's really bad with spicy! - Goong Pad Kai Kem (shrimp w/ salted egg yolk): the egg yolk made it really heavy, you definitely need to share this. Probably the weakest dish out of all of the ones we ordered - Moo Kra Tiem (wok fried pork): good but nothing too special - Khao Ob Mun Pu (crab clay pot rice): they did not hold back on the crab portion! Very flavorful and the clay pot got the bottom of the rice crispy, yum - Khao Soi Pad Haeng (w/ fried chicken): fantastic! It's dry khao soi with some coconut milk (?) mixed in. Tasted amazing, great noodle texture. Fried chicken was also really good - Pork Pad See Ew: wow probably the best pad see ew I've ever had!! So much flavor and great noodle texture - Khao Pad Mun Nuer with Soy Cured Egg Yolk (short rib fried rice): my favorite dish! Short rib so good and the fried rice is soooo fragrant and especially delicious when mixing in the egg

They text you when your table is ready and got have about 5 minutes to get there. Right away I knew I wanted the Khao soi which I got with tofu. This was beyond delicious, but I wish they have more broth. I've had Khao soi before but it was a bit more broth which made the noodles less dry. Also I wish the tofu was cut into smaller cubes, the tofu wasn't very crispy which made it pretty bland and one dimensional. Other than that it was very good. The Thai tea was also good, not too sweet which was perfect. The duck breast curry had a similar taste to the Khao soi but the duck was one of the beast we had. Super moist and flavorful in the broth, definitely one of the best dishes of the night. Also the beef fried rice (Khao pad mun neur) was cooked well, my favorite was the flavor of the fried rice. Had a smoky wok flavor to it which made it addicting. The ambience was very nice my favorite was their music playlist. Was nostalgic and gave good vibes in the restaurant. Definitely a great experience and worth a try when in the city. I would come again for the duck curry and maybe the Khao soi with a different protein or ask the tofu to be extra crispy.
