Been coming here for years and I recently came back for lunch the food and service remains great. I got an order of pad thai and their famous bbq spear ribs. So much flavor and meat was tender. Definitely will be back! read more

I don't know why I returned here. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was the jalapeños floating in vinegar provided as an accoutrement. The rice was a weird orangey yellow color and mushy. The BBQ pork ribs were overly sweet with a strange texture; it was as if they were marinated too long in pineapple juice which broke down the meat too much. The coconut soup was filled with shrimp and mushrooms but the coconut milk was totally separated from the broth. This was likely due to over boiling or too much lime juice? Either way it did not look appetizing since there was precipitation throughout the whole bowl. On the plus 1 star side, it was served atop a flame which kept it simmering and hot! Also prices are low, so I've added another star for that! read more

Thai Original BBQ - Taste exactly like the one in L.A. #Approve - Thai Near Me - Pacifica, California

I recently ordered take-out and on their take-out menu they have a coupon if you spend $20+ you get a free Thai coffee. They did not make good on their coupon because I forgot to bring it with me. Even though I have at least 5 menus at home just laying there. Every single take-out menu has this coupon. They should have been happy with the consistent business I bring them (and my friends & family referrals too). I won't be back because of this negative experience. There's plenty of Thai restaurants through S.F., Daly City and San Bruno that I can go to. -Good food, good portion sizes -A bit higher priced than normal ($13 for pad-thai when I'm used to paying $9 or $10) -Decent service read more

Thai Original BBQ's interior could benefit from a makeover; a simple update would transform their well-worn booths & dark carpeting from depressing to more comforting. Simply put, I don't feel happy eating here. The drab interior sets the tone, but unappetizing menu offerings solidify my dislike for this place: Mushy pineapple fried rice. Smoky-tasting pad Thai with shrimp that didn't taste right. Watered down Thai iced tea. So-so chicken satay. Oily tom yum goong soup (hot & sour broth tasted unclean, it's the only way I can describe it.) You'll have to excuse my unforgiving review, but there isn't anything for me to look forward to here. read more

Hey .. ya'll dont know about this place though! haha! I've been going to this restaurant since I was in Middle School - About 9 years. They used to have this huge fish in their tank that I was so fascinated with - then it died. About the food! Appetizers: I always get the Tom Yum soup. Hot and spicy with shrimp, tomatoes and mushrooms - so good@ They serve the pot of soup over a portable gas stove so it stays warm! Main Course: I usually get the BBQ chicken over rice. The chicken is never dry here! And the BBQ taste is so good. Not to mention the yummy sweet and spicy sauce you can top over the chicken and rice! The rice has shrimp in it too which is a good extra! I've also had the beef satay served in skewers and a peanut based sauce. This is really good too. Pad Thai is yummy too! I've also had the Salmon here and it was very flaky - just really good. - How many times did I say "good" in this paragraph? ALOT - BECAUSE ITS GOOD! ;) Dessert: Fried banana and ice cream - the yuggee (usual) Yummy too. Service is good too! Very sweet. I broke a plate here one time and they were very nice about it - WHAT?? I'M CLUMSY! I didn't have to pay for it if you were wondering - because I asked ... WHAT?! I'M CURIOUS!! Not a lot of people know about this place ... AND THEY SHOULD! Okay see you there! read more

The Great S-8 debate. Chicken, beef or both. Both of course. Well we actually split it per 2 people we come here with. Despite having no relation to many Original Thai BBQ's all across the west coast, the headquarters does offer franchising, the menu's are basically the same and consistent. My early 20's were spend trying the entire menu out in Vegas and now I just get an S8 and maybe split something else with my friends. The sate is the same, night, day, any Original Thai BBQ. Being that Filipino food is pervasive in Daly City I was sure I'd get my fix around midnight so we played Ro Sham Bo for where we would eat, Thai or Chinese. We would inevitably eat the other on another day anyhow so it wasn't really a point of contention, just decision. We knew it was good, we'd been here before, but one thing I noticed was that the portion sizes have shrunk AND the prices have gone up. Ok maybe the later wasn't enough to go caps on it, but the first part for sure. Since we go SATE each time, we noticed. I'd say you get a full 20% less meat per skewer and even one less overall. The amount of rice shrank too. Peanute sauce had declined on flavor. Oh lord, what had become of our consistent flavorful Thai place. The décor was the same, the service the same, the menu the same. Had the price risen with inflation, no, it had gone above the inflation rate, so something must have changed. We peered back at the menu noticing almost all the sides had gone from mid $7 to mid $8 with a few topping out just below $10. Veggie only dishes $8.50, no noodles, no meat, basically just sauce. This is Daly City, not the City. $10 for Tom Yum soup. Come on now. $10 for papaya salad. That's a 5 ingredient dish. Tom yum soup is good, but needs more fresh herbs to garnish. Larb needs more shrimp paste, papaya salad also needs more shrimp. Ok now that I'm off my high horse the décor is inviting, dark walls, the tables are nicely separated and not to crowded in either room. Service is good, perhaps could be more attentive on the drinks and need of napkins. I took an extra star from them for giving less and charging more. I can understand if prices go up, but it's a good thing my friends were less hungry because I was about ready to order another noodle dish just to fill up, I'd already had an S8 and eaten my 1/3 of the drunken noodle. Good thing my friends were less hungry and I ate another 1/3 of the noodles and that satiated me because I was close to still ordering another side. That's how much things have shrunk. read more

I really did not like this place! I've come here twice already and the food was not good at all. the first time i came we ordered a chicken dish...i think it was minty chicken or some entree with basil. anyways...when we got it we started picking at it and realized that meat wasn't cooked all the way! So we complained and they brought us a new one. regardless, it still didn't taste that good the next time i came (i wanted to give them another chance) I ordered the chicken curry. The chicken had some weird texture...like it was from a frozen dinner. def. did not like it at all. the plus side of this place is the service. and...that's about it. read more

It's good as ever. Only they don't have those little salad that goes with it. Chicken get smaller than before

*** FOOD POISONING***** My husband and i Ordered the S2 for lunch. The meat was tough that the knife could not cut through the meat. There was also a thick layer of who knows what on top of the spare rib, that it tasted like shrimp paste. It looked like the meat was so old that they kept slathering sauce on top.The rice tasted super old too, like it has been cooked and refrigerated until eaten. To top it off, couple hours later, I felt sick to my stomach and threw up, 5 times. My husband also got sick and is stuck to the toilet as well. Never again. read more

This restaurant is a big staple in this area for locals. The look of this place is starting to show its time but they provide good, decent quality Thai food; they're dependable. I recommend the S-2(house special) since they give you a lot of food, and the beef pad see ew noodles are good. The customer service is good; the workers are typically attentive. read more

My girl friend and I went there last night. She had never had Thai food before. This place is close figuered why not... omg So we ordered yellow chicken curry, drunken noodles, and Thai BBQ chicken. le curry: only 2 giant chunks of potato the chicken was still on the bone the curry "sauce" was more like soup eew the drunken noodles: was nice and spicy but was more reminisent of chinese food then thai. where were the chilis? the garlic? the mint? thai bbq chicken: served one leg and one wing nothing spectacular about it the rice it came with had two lonely shimp in it (didn't say that was included in the menu) bland if it was cheaper i probably would have let more slide but each dish was over $10 for shit quality. never again read more

My little sister treated us to this place last night, she's prego and had been craving thai bbq...all day.. We ordered the wings of angel as an appetizer, basically it's stuffed chicken wings...pretty good..but my Mom can make them better! I got the S-1 which is their 1/2 bbq chix with shrimp fried rice..it was good! My sis got the S-2 which is spareribs & shrimp fried rice...meat was falling off the bone good! My other sis got the drunken noodles...it was pretty tasty..tho it kinda just looked like chow fun.. All in all, you get bang for your buck, not too expensive & big portions! read more

What makes this place amazing is the service. They are so attentive to your needs but are not overbearing - the perfect combination for 5 star service. I was brought here by my BF and his family. It was mentioned that it was a favorite, so I came in having high expectations - and they were surpassed! My favorite is the crab fried rice (real chunks of crab, very generous and flavorful!), lemon coconut chicken soup (man, i crave for this on cold daly city days), and my all time favorite, the fried bananas with ice cream. What makes their "FBI" different is the drizzle of honey that they add on. Now anytime i have FBI anywhere else, I ask them to ixnay the chocolate syrup and drizzle on that honey, honey! read more

I'm officially Thai food OUT!!!! But...I had to try this place before I took a Thai break. Went here with 3 of my co-workers for lunch today. Decided to get my normal pad-see-ewe with tofu and shrimp. The seasonings were great. Love it! The prices were good especially because it was lunch time. There's only 3 cons I have about the place. #1 - I asked for lemon for my water but received limes :( And when I got the limes they were like little slivers. WTH? #2 - There was 4 of us there to eat and they bought out 2 peoples food a way before the other two. Ok...maybe not way but at least a good 5-7 minutes. WTH??? #3 - I kept having to get their attention for water refills. WTF!!!!!!! read more

Came here on a Sunday evening with my boyfriend. It was hard to find parking in the plaza since there were other restaurants as well! We were seated right away, placed our order, and our food took about 15 minutes. I ordered the chicken sate rice plate. I'm telling you their portions are huge! It came with 8 chicken satay skewers on stick with peanut sauce, cucumbers in sweet sauce, and a mountain of rice. I wasn't a big fan of it because the chicken and rice was really dry so I kept adding the peanut sauce to the chicken and rice! My boyfriend ordered their BBQ Thai chicken which I tried and it had more flavor and the chicken was tender. I had better Thai food but would recommend to try the BBQ thai chicken rice plate at this place! read more

Why hello, you little mom and pop wonder... Go here for the food, not the ambiance. The Pad Thai is amazing. One order is enough for two, and the noodles are thick enough so they don't stick together. They are also not skimpy on the shrimp. YES! I would also recommend their curries. They are flavorful, but not overpowering. The Pad See-ew is also a winner, but I would choose the Pad Thai ten times over. The service is quick, but the decor is nothing special. They also do to-go orders, which is great! read more

I want to give this place 3.5 stars, but since there is no half star I'm rounding up. We ordered the seafood hot and sour soup, curry chicken and the mint chicken. We had a funny and strange incident when speaking with the waiter if they basil chicken. He proceeds to tell us they have mint chicken, but mint is like basil. We look at each other and laugh because mint and basil may be green, but they are totally different in taste and smell. When we get the seafood hot and sour soup, what's in the soup? Basil! The soup had pretty good flavor and a good amount of various seafood. The mint chicken was good and they gave a good portion. When we got the chicken curry it was actually large chunks of chicken with bones which was a little unexpected, but still pretty tasty. I think the curry could have a little more flavor, but it made for good leftovers. read more

Tried out Thai Original BBQ for dinner the other night. To start, we ordered their "Coconut Chicken Soup" with a description of "Tom Kar Soup." We figured it should be similar to the soup we're used to, "Tom Kha Ghai," so I was a little suspicious of the description and spelling. In addition for our starters, the s/o ordered their Papaya Salad. For our meal, we ordered their BBQ Chicken, we figured we had to since BBQ is part of their name; and Pad Thai. After ordering, our server set up the little warmer for the soup and soup bowls. Funny thing though, our steamed rice came out first, then the BBQ Chicken. A few minutes later, the Pad Thai, then the Papaya Salad. Okay, where's the soup? We figured we'd start eating. The s/o finished the Papaya Salad which the s/o said was fulfilling, then right when we're about halfway done with the BBQ Chicken and Pad Thai, our server lights up the warmer then brings out the soup. I was a little mad about how late it was, so as she was stirring the soup and was getting ready to fill our bowls, I told her to not to because it'll just get cold in the bowls, figuring she would at least apologize about the tardiness, which she didn't. The BBQ Chicken was good, but it looked and tasted like it was cooked earlier in the day, as the meat was slightly dry. But the sauce it was accompanied by certainly gave it a kick. The Pad Thai was pretty standard, a little too sweet for my taste. I was severely disappointed with their "Coconut Chicken Soup." I didn't have high expectations to start but, it was simply horrible. The coconut milk either sat too long in the soup because it wasn't smoothly mixed into the soup. The soup was tangy and had a bit of heat to it but I felt it was lacking flavor. It had quite a few pieces of chicken, which I'll give them that but, the chicken didn't taste fresh; it's as if they got cooked chicken for one of their other items on their menu and just threw it in. The staff was okay, they could've been more attentive and shown a little more hospitality, especially with one server standing right in the middle of the dining room literally watching over the customers eating, yet failing to notice the empty water glasses. I'd say that I'd like to give TOBBQ another chance but, that's probably not going to happen. read more

S-1: House Special Thai BBQ Chicken That's the stuff. I was first introduced to this place back in my video game store days back in the 90's. It was my turn to go on a food run for the store when my co-worker (now business partner) recommended this place. He was a newly-proclaimed vegetarian, but he still recommended the S-1 meal due to his fond memories of the dish. I brought back the grub to the store, fed my face, had a food-gasm, and the rest is history. Over a decade later, this dish still remains my only reason for eating at this restaurant. The chicken along with the sweet and sour sauce and the shrimp-fried rice make it a most delectable meal. It's the second-greatest chicken on earth. KFC still rules, after all. ------------------------- Response to Ari C's review: Hey, I recommended this place as a date spot since my friend was still a starving college student on a limited budget! Kids like cheap eats, and you can't go wrong with S-1. You're also stinky. read more

Friendly to-go place. Surprisingly comfortable dining room, if you need to park your rear end for a meal. Yelpers ragging on the 80s decor are right... it's a dated look - but it's also clean and comfy, with little booths and warm lighting. You won't get a headache eating under fluorescent lights that scream "welcome to another cheap Asian eatery" sorta thing. :) Food... Authenticity: 2 STARS (says the white chick, but hey... been eating Thai for 30 years... pretty sure this is true) BBQ Quality: 4 STARS (Minus 1 STAR for overly sweet sauce) Curry Quality: 3 STARS - good sauce, beef (panang) tough though. :( Larb: 1 STAR - Eeek!... a giant portion of barely seasoned, ground chicken sprinkled with greens does NOT a larb make. Epic fail. Service: 4 STARS. Very pleasant, prompt and smiling (evidently they have not been nibbling on the Larb). Summary: Do NOT go to Thai Original BBQ if you're looking for those perfectly dressed, light and crunchy, barely cooked type of things - the Thai food that requires a more delicate hand, and a careful attention to ingredient quality. But... DO go if you want good BBQ and can tolerate a not-really-authentic level of sweetness. It's damned tasty... but it's more "Thai-like" than Thai. I'd order again. But pretty much just for the meat. :) read more

Im sorry to say that the quality of this place is poor. I've had better at other Thai places... It felt like a fastfood restaurant like Panda Express, McDonalds, etc... It quality was SUPER POOR... The price was "fair" and the portion size was "excellent" but the QUALITY!!! WAS AWFUL!!!! I bought the honey duck and it was near $13... It didn't really taste like duck or honey... It had some shrimp fried rice... The fried rice and the honey duck tasted the same regardless of what I was eating... They had to many veggies for the dish... It was also super hard to navigiate because I felt like there were bones EVERYWHERE... I had the option to take it to go but I decided not to. In the end I had $13 GONE!!!! I was still hungry! And I felt disgusted... There was another customer in front of me who was complaining that the food was cold... The lady said... We will give you the rice for free... But the rice came with the meal... All he wanted was someone to either heat it up or make him a fresh food... Two unsatisfied customers in less than 5 mins apart from each other... DO NOT GO HERE!!! In contrast, the menu was beautiful, and the interior design was awesome! The food could use A LOT of improvements... read more

Food and the good welcome smile you get from the cashier. That's what call good customer services. That's all.

The lunch special price is great. I got practically half a chicken and fried rice for 7 dollars. But since I am Thai and I eat a lot of Thai food, I thought the chicken was pretty dry and had no real taste marinated in to it. They supplied chicken sauce but I think it's better with out a sauce covering the flavor. But I can't expect that much for 7 dollars. Only in Thai street food in Bangkok could I expect marinated mouth watering good bbq chicken with sticky rice. My boyfriend got pad see ew and he said it was really good. All the portions were big. So if you can eat a lot it's all good for you. read more

Im all about that S-2. I have never had anything besides their thai BBQ pork because I don't need to. The meat easily falls off the bone and if you dip it in their sweet&sour sauce, the meat literally melts in your mouth. Went back to this restaurant for some Thai to go earlier this evening. Talk about consistent. I don't think the food quality was a single bit different from the last time I was there. I appreciate consistency - when the food is good. I had the classic S1, which is the bbq chicken and shrimp fried rice. It's very good though they probably give too much rice and the breast is actually a little on the dry side. Maybe next time I'll ask if I could get a second thigh or leg instead of the breast. They would probably happily oblige since the breast is the most expensive piece. Now they do include a side of sweet orange sauce to have with the chicken, but I'm not that saucy of a guy so I give it all to my wife - who uses it all thank you. We also had the mixed veggies, which I think is called Green Garden. I'm not sure what the sauce is, but it's awesome. I was probably a vegetarian in a past life because I like them so much in this one. I highly recommend this dish to anyone who's in to greens like me. It has baby corn, cabbage, bean sprouts, snow peas, carrots, etc. That's all we had tonight. We'll be back again before too long. My Growth Coach tip for Business Improvement Give people a reason to come back over and over. Start a mailing list by asking customers if they'd like to receive an incentive by email to try a new dish once a month. Then, create something new and exciting each month and offer it to your email list for 1/2 price. A certain number of folks will take advantage of it and buy some pad thai or Thai iced tea to go with it. Plus they'll likely bring someone else with them. read more

It was a little crazy in there that felt a bit ignored. We finally ordered angel wings, basil eggplant, noodle dish and mussaman beef. Steam rice. All were pretty good but mussaman beef was very soupy like. We've had it where it was gravy like but this was watery soup like. There was a staff person and notice he'd bring foods but sometimes he'd cough without covering his mouth. It was disturbing. When he brought our food we didn't see that but others dishes for other tables, he did the uncovered cough. It wasn't till after our order was delivered that he coughed. Maybe the fumes from other dishes caused the cough. We won't be back tho. read more
