Came here recently to specifically buy some thai boat noodle paste to use as a base for my soup. I've been meaning to visit this place forever, but finally made a stop by it two weeks ago. And I'm so glad I did! This place has such an amazing variety of Thai ingredients...I ended up picking up a bunch of other ingredients that I hadn't planned on (coconut cream powder, milk tea packet, tom yum soup base, etc). I plan on coming back for more. I typically do most of my asian ingredient grocery store shopping at 99 Ranch, but have been unable to find specific Thai ingredients there. But they basically have that all here! I want to come back to get unique ingredients like ground galangal, pad thai sauce, and pickled onions/chilis. The lady running the store was also very nice! Two different customers had come in the store as I was browsing and seemed to be friendly with her! She also let me know to ask her if I had any questions or needed help finding anything. Which I did! I was specifically looking for the Oliang iced coffee, which they were out of stock of but were working on restocking (so I'll be back for that as well). And asked her a few questions as I was checking out about thai boat noodle recipes and ingredients. Very friendly! I can't wait to be back lol. They are so sweet and helpful and have a great selection of products and ingredients to choose from. I only get my coconut milk here as they are the only ones that carry a specific type and brand i need for one of my recipes. They have offered me many tips for recipes over the years. I was disappointed they are temporaily closed but looking forward to when they reopen. read more

After visiting Bangkok & eating authentic Thai foods, I was determined to try some Thai cooking after I got back from my trip. Out of all the asian foods, I'm actually not that familiar with Thai, even though its probably the most common eaten here in the states. When I find recipes I try to purchase ingredients with as little English as possible on the packaging, then you know it's the real deal. Tonight I needed items for gai yang & one ingredient that is very hard to find is coriander roots. Coriander root is essentially cilantro with the root attached - seems very basic but for some reason it's a rarity at all the asian stores, yes even HMart, & 99 Ranch, & nonexistent even Vietnamese markets. Apparently it's not used very often, but in Thai cooking it's very common. Thank goodness for this little gem of a store - I was in luck & called the day before to confirm if they carried it. This kind lady answered & said they have LOTS... so off I went to visit the store. I don't live in the area & the hours of the store aren't convenient at all - closing at 5, I went in around noon. The same lady that answered the phone saw me & helped me right away - how kind she was ! She never made me feel like I was being ignored, & didn't watch me like a hawk either, which always makes me feel uncomfortable. What else did I find in this lil place ? Ya nang leaves, Prahok, Mum Papaya salad sauce, healthy boy brand soy sauces, special thai lays such as mayonnaise flavor. I also was happy to find that they carried palm sugar - yes other asian stores has this but it's usually in concrete brick form. I was specifically looking for the buttery fresh liquidy palm sugar & I found a jar ! This is your spot for your hard-to-find-ingredients ! I am in love this store & I wish there were more Thai markets like this one. I will for sure be returning back for more rare Thai ingredients, everything is so well priced, so be sure to support this local small business ! read more

Love this little market on the corner of Cherry and Hungerford Street. This Thai market may be small, but don't be fooled, it has so many hidden gems at a fairly decent price! They carry a handful of items that you can't find at other Asian grocery stories like 99 Ranch, Seafood City or Hmart. I'm so happy I came across this place. I've been looking for authentic tamarind pulp to make my own sauce from scratch & they had a few options here. They carry all the Thai brand sauce options (oyster, dark soy, sweet soy, fish sauce, etc.) that I have been dying to find. One thing that I also loved was how sweet and friendly the owner is to everyone that walks though her doors. :) On weekends the owner mentioned that they sell Thai food, unfortunately they were sold out at the time I went. Needed some Asian fresh produce and wanted to ee what they had. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking | Street/neighborhood parking. Feels | The spot is in a pretty random spot. Not in the downtown area but off a pretty busy street. It can be easily missed as you're driving fast. The market itself is relatively small and intimate but has a mix of your go-to Asian produce and not so mainstream produce. FOOD: They have frozen fish, very limited fresh produce, and many snacks/desserts. Good selection of noodles, turmeric powder, and garlic seasoning. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly and helpful people. TL;DR OVERALL 4 Stars. Good selections, friendly people, and reasonable prices. There aren't many Asian markets in this area so it was nice seeing this spot. The summer and warmer weather brings all the mosquito bites my way unfortunately. My friend had introduced me to this balm from Thailand (known as Zam-Buk) to help relieve the bites. It helped so much, I had to find where to get some for myself. Online ordering would have taken a week or so but I couldn't wait, iykyk. Found this place and stopped by to see my chances if they had it, and they did! The woman working was so friendly and helpful. I showed her a photo of the balm and she had some right by the register, with some other similar items. She even recommended this other peppermint/green tea balm stick to me to help with relief. needed green chili paste for my thai dish and could not find it at any of my local asian marts. yelp came to my rescue (as always) this little market is on the corner and can be easily missed. there is a parking lot behind the market with maybe 4 spots but there is street parking. there was a steady flow of customers coming in, at times there was a line of 3-4 ppl. i browsed all the aisles as i waited for cashier to be free, who also seems to be the only one working as i needed help locating which chili paste to use. the lady was so friendly, offering to order the item if i needed it. i purchased snacks and other items i did not need but had not had since i was a child. prices were reasonable and store was crammed but organized and clean with all types of asian ingredients. i def will be coming back to shop :) oh and $10 minimum for cards! xx read more

I learned how to make official and authentic Tom Yum and Tom Kha from this family-owned store! Everybody is wonderful and helpful. Here I was struggling to look for the ingredients inside their store.. Hoping that I wouldn't have to bother them as they are busy. But the gentleman that works here was phenomenal... He took the time to really take me through the store and showed me where to find which items. He asked me what I was making,, to which I embarrassedly said.. Tom Yum. He showed me how it's made and what ingredients to buy. He was patient in explaining to me how it's supposed to be cook. My first time was not how I wanted it. So, I went back and asked him what I did wrong... Yo my surprise... He said nothing. It just depends on how sour I wanted it. Second time??? Success!!! Everyone at home and at work loved it! Thank you for being amazing and patient with a customer like me who struggles. On a side note, I also love the way that they welcome you. Warm and friendly. They also don't try to upsell you anything but rather give you the best ingredients that your money can buy without breaking your budget. The produce and seafood is fresh. BY THE WAY... I have lived down the street from this market for YEARS, nearly my whole life, and I have never thought to check it out; until today. I was in desperate need of some Thai Basil, which I couldn't find for weeks anywhere else. I came to the market, and found the freshest Thai basil and other ingredients! Like many Americans, because of Covid, I am preparing more meals at home. I watched several great videos on how to prepare my two favorite Thai dishes: Pad See Ew and Pad Prik King. I traveled today from East Long Beach to Thai Number 1 Market because of the excellent reviews on Yelp: I wasn't disappointed. The store was easy to find--just off the 91 Freeway--and it had everything that I was looking for. The owner approached me, upon entering, and helped me find everything on my list. He asked me what dishes I was preparing and recommended the best products that would be conducive for my meals. He carefully bagged my items--separating the fresh veggies and cold items from the heavier jar items--and could not have been more hospital and kind. As I find more recipes on YouTube, I most certainly will be returning to Thai Number 1 Market in the future. read more

I've been shopping here for years and will never return after today. The man at the counter is the most disgusting person I have ever met. I am a diabetic and am recovering from a surgery 4 days prior. I finally had an appetite and decided to make thai, I went to the market and started feeling weak so I opened a bag of candy and ate two pieces and then went to the counter to pay. The man says don't open and eat, I explained that I am a diabetic and was not feeding well. The man responded by saying its trashy as he grabbed the bag from the counter. What is trashy is your behavior towards paying customers and your ignorance. Your rude and racist and I will never return. read more

I love Thai food and I have found over the years that it's really not that hard to make it yourself but a lot of the ingredients (kafir lime, thai chili, dark soy sauce, coconut cream, real coconut milk without additives, etc.) are not readily available at your average large chain market so I decided to hunt down the perfect spot to buy these ingredients to have on hand whenever I feel like cooking Thai food. I found this lovely store on Yelp. It is a godsend and it's not over priced! They have absolutely everything you need: herbs, spices, canned fruits/veggies, various types of coconut milk and cream including dried, jars and bottles of various oils, vinegars, and sauces. They sell fresh meat and produce as well (including the above-mentioned kafir limes and leaves). It's not very big and the isles are a little narrow but if they don't have it you probably don't need it. It's an awesome little place! I even found my Thai tea here as well as refrigerated/frozen items. Some of these same items are sold on Amazon but it's much cheaper here. The owner (I'm assuming) was very friendly and gave me some tips when I told him what I wanted to cook. He pointed out some "instant" types of seasoning packages where I just needed to add water and a few other mainstay ingredients for it to come out a traditional Thai dish. I've read some negative reviews but I never found him or the previous owner rude in any way. Tip: I do think it's important to call before going there to make sure they're open. It's a mom & pop shop and because of this they can often times close early or all day if something happens in their life (illness, vacation, jury duty, etc). I don't see the harm in calling before you go in instead of hoping and assuming they will be open. It's annoying to see these big babies get pissed when they realize they're closed and immediately take to Yelp to one-star the business instead of taking into account it's a small, family-owned business. Things happen; have a heart! Take the 10 seconds to make the phone call. read more

Great little Thai Market! Its THE place to go to get hard to find ingredients to make authtentic Thai food from scratch. Plus the owners are super friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough... Ps they were making thai bbq when my wife and I went today. It smelled sooo good but we were meeting friends for lunch so couldnt get any.
