There's an article clipped from a newspaper that says That Thai is food to die for. I've tried a…read morenumber of Thai restaurants around Brisbane and I wouldn't go that far. The name itself, That Thai, pretty much sums up the general feel that it's just another one of those types of eateries. The restaurant is a converted Queenslander with a good sized outside deck to enjoy a summer breeze on. When you arrive, you have to be a little patient because the staff always seem to be preoccupied with something. It took my wife and I five minutes to be sorted out and that was on a night when the restaurant was only half full. In comparison to their service, that Thai serves a pretty substantial meal. Their Banana Leaf Chicken was so big that I couldn't finish it. My wife enjoyed her yellow curry but in the end there just wasn't any excitement about the place to warrant another visit.

I probably should have suspected just by its lacklustre name, but I gave That Thai a chance based on it's nice, wide front deck just above street level where it catches the breeze. Unfortunately, it seems like That Thai put about the same amount of effort into their service as they did into coming up with their name. That is, not much. The staff were slow to acknowledge our arrival, then slow to bring the menus, then slow to take our order. And the food was - you guessed it! - slow to arrive. Once it did arrive, it was okay. Pretty standard suburban Thai fare in big portions and reasonably priced. For me to return to a restaurant where I've experienced poor service, the food has to make tolerating the service worthwhile and that isn't the case here.

However, if you're wanting a cheaper alternative that's up to and sometimes above par in comparison, make sure you go and hit up Northern Thai. It isn't much to look at, but it's a great takeaway that's certainly up there. For me, when I'm there I'm ordering the Satay Gai for an entrée and a Green Chicken Curry for my main. It's relatively cheap and in total both meals together cost me $20. Sometimes, they over spice things there, but I've never been too concerned, the flavour is always rich and the meals fill you up nicely. Another reason I like to order from here is that the staff are always prompt and never leave you hanging around. When waiting for an order they will keep me updated and serve it to me with a smile.

It's not the biggest or the flashiest restaurants on Racecourse but I strongly recommend it. The food has never failed to please me, though I usually go for stir fried chicken with basil and coconut rice (you have to order the rice separately). They give you very decent sized servings that aren't very expensive. The dishes that have a lot of egg may be a little salty. The wait staff is very nice though they aren't native English speakers so communication can potentially be an issue but I haven't experienced much of that so far. It's BYO (wine only) and they offer standard soft drinks too for a reasonable price. It's not a place for dessert though but that's okay. Take away is also an option.

Personal favourites of mine of mine for starters (if they have any) are the Crystal Balls or stuffed chicken wings. Mains I usually attack any of their massamam curries or the tom yum soup. The staff are always around and looking to serve you and fill up your water. Another great thing about Thai Ways is that it is BYO and the closest bottle shop is about ten meters down the street. The food is pretty simple, not totally authentic as far as other Thai restaurants around Brisbane but that probably helps in keeping the prices down. That and its an absolute pleasure to dine there. I recommend it to everyone.

I got there just after 15 minutes and I was actually late. I didn't have to wait. I ordered the green curry, coconut prawns, drunken noodle, basil chicken and fried rice. They all tasted great. So far this is the best food joint I have visited in Albion and 4011 post code region combined. The food wasn't bland, it had full of favors and the serving size was excellent. Definitely would be back for another takeaway and eat in (decorations are amazing).
