I had a lovely time here, everything's very traditional and I had a spectacular Monkfish. Everything tasted fresh and authentic and it would've been a perfect place to take someone who had never tried Thai food before. It feels intimate rather than pokey. HOWEVER! This was the last time I'll let my coat be taken, I accidently left my mobile phone in the pocket. It was stolen. Not by the staff because they had far too little interest in the whole thing to point the guilty finger at them. But, it was stolen by some girl with sunken cheeks and a kappa tracksuit. You know how I know? Because she'd stolen from there before and me and 50 other witnesses had to go testify against her in court. What a load of time wasting nonsense without even an apology.

The Thai Lemongrass is a family run restaurant and has a very authentic Thai feel to it. The staff wear traditional Thai clothing and the decor inside is very oriental. There is a wide range of Thai dishes on the menu, with a substantial vegetarian section. They offer Thai Banquets, which have a set menu with a wide range of dishes on offer, and for a two course meal it costs £20 per person, not including drinks or desert. I came here as a student with a friend and we were quite taken aback at the rather steep prices as we assumed that because the restaurant was in a student area, it would be relatively cheap. The meal itself was very tasty, I had the chicken in a red curry sauce and it was lovely and spicy, and I found the service attentive. I have not been back since purely because of the expensive nature of their menu but I would like to eat there again as the meal was very tasty, just maybe not at those prices.

It has the vibe of a fancy nightclub. Since we're being COVID cautious we asked the host when we arrived if we could sit outside. We were told we could but only if we were drinking. (When we left we saw several tables out there eating food.) Could we sit in the main dining area away from others? "It'll be packed in ten minutes," we were told. It was 1:30. When we left only two tables were taken. We ended up having a private room with views of Edinburgh Castle, though the view from the main dining room was better. Our server was without any warmth as well. Methinks they have a customer service problem. The apps we ordered came in groups of three for our table of four. When I eat out with a group, my servers often offer to charge a little more so we have the right number to share. Not here. The Mieng Kum with grape leaves filled with toasted coconut and peanut was really good and one of our favorites. We ordered the Weeping Beef Salad and got the non-salad version which costs more. We ended up with the Pepper Steak and it was excellent. Even though it wasn't what we ordered, it was the best dish of the day. The Thai Tacos with chicken were small but good. The Basil Chicken was fine but forgettable.

I have only been to three Thai restaurants but this is by far the best one I have been to and the food has been consistently good on the four times I have been there. I have found a firm favourite dish in the red curry, which always tastes delicious. The restaurant provides good value for money with the servings you get and also offers BYOB, which is an added bonus on the wallet. The décor of the restaurant is pretty simple but this shouldn't take anything away from the fact that this is a hidden gem in Edinburgh.

Got to admit, we didn't go in with high expectations, but goes to show how poor my judgement is! We shared some vegetable spring rolls to start, then SR had a Pad Prik Kink (with chicken) and I opted for Pla Rad Prik Monkfish, and shared some steamed rice and fried noodles. I will note that the noodles didn't work with the monkfish - steamed rice much better. THe SR loved his chicken, but had major food envy for my prettily arranged asparagus and monkfish. the fish, in a light batter, had a fantastic sauce - intensely sweet, intensely sour, intensely spicy. It was an intoxicating combination, tempered with the blandness of steamed rice. Prices were reasonable, the staff pleasant enough, it was BYOB but we didn't care and we were delighted, absolutely. A hidden gem, indeed.
