This is what happens when small town white people try to Thai. The fried rice had zero seasoning, frozen broccoli, no peas, no carrots, basically white rice with little pieces of shredded beef and frozen broccoli. I suspect the only reason they are open is because Dawson's stays full. Clean and nice people though just don't expect Thai food. A pleasant surprise on HWY 287. We have driven the route, on our way to Colorado, hundreds of times. Never partaking in the local cuisine. ( other than "fast-food"). Been passing this place and finally stopped while driving through town. The food was excellent - not too spicy but I suspect I could have asked for more heat if I wanted it. The service was efficient and the server quite pleasant. A simple atmosphere with authentic Thai tchotchke (let the fact checkers figure that one out). If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I ordered a veggie chow mein. No veggies at all and it smelled fishy. My spouse ordered the veggie delight and about 97% of the veggies were cabbage. Even the steamed rice was not right and had specs of fried rice mixed in. We hate throwing away food but had to because of worry about food borne illness. As a public health professional, with a spouse as a retired chef, proceed with caution if you want to go here for an overly expensive meal that's not worth it. read more

My Sweet n Sour Chicken and Fried Rice was horrible. Cooked numerous times. Egg Rolls were pure grease.

Thai Kitchen is right off the highway in a nondescript building right near a motel. Inside is plane jane but the food is great and reasonably priced for a small town Thai restaurant. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon are good. All kinds of combinations are great but I recommend the Thai steak. I've never been there and had to wait. Takeout is also available. Driving by Childress we came upon this Thai restaurant looking for vegan food options. We had the lemongrass soup and requested it with tofu rather than meat and the staff kindly accommodated us. We also had the vegetable fried rice dish and the tofu delight dish. The fried rice options were not vegan as they contained egg but were vegetarian. If you want steamed (vegan) rice with your order make sure to ask for it specifically. The food was tasty and the staff was friendly. read more

For a small town place, Thai kitchen was decent. Friendly staff, seating to enjoy a meal, and visible next to the main hwy. I was traveling through for a business trip and needed something to eat to meet my vegan needs and this was a much better option than your typical gas store food. I would stop again on my road trips. I had their Phat Thai, Again it wasn't bad for being a small town. It wasn't as flavorful as our usual Thai places but again it's almost in the middle of no where. We spent a week in Childress. Of the many restaurants in town, this one turned out to be the most similar (in quality) to Orange County. I ate with family and we did it "family style" so I was able to sample a few plates. It was very tasty. I would definitely eat here again. Thai Kitchen is a nice place for a quick and inexpensive meal. It is refreshing to eat something other than a steak and potatoes. I love their spicy beef which is actually not so mild. I ask them to make it spicier. My husband is addicted to their cashew chicken. He eats it at least once a week! We recently ordered a variety of dishes there for a family meal. Everything was delicious. They don't have my favorite garlic chicken (that belongs to Thai Sky in Long Beach, Ca) but they are still worthy of 4 stars. WOW! YUMMY! Couldn't get any better than this! We were so impressed and loved everything we had! I had the Hawaiian fried rice, my husband and daughters had sweet and sour chicken, and my son had the kids chicken with broccoli. We also had the wonton soup, Thai egg rolls, and crab Rangoon. Foodserver was amazing! Restaurant was dirty. Why, there was only a few tables filled. Chicken fried rice was bland; almost as if it was white rice with some chicken. Tom ka soup was fabulous (although the chicken was tough). Beef with broccoli was great. If they cleaned up and added some spice to the chicken fried rice and changed up the recipe, I would go back. I had the Pad Kee Mao and wish I had gone to McDonald's instead. Considering I haven't eaten at McDonald's in about 15 years, that's saying a lot. Sure, it was cheap, but I'm not looking just for something to put in my stomach to fill it up. We drove all day & spent the night in Childress. Based on the reviews here,, we decided to give the place a shot. We went in pretty near closing time & placed a to-go order. We were hoping to get at least 1 salad, because every Thai/Lao restaurant I've ever been to offers a variety of salads. Strike one: no salad onn the menu. We ordered hot & sour soup, but they were sold out...strike two. Our order was pretty simple: 1) shrimp rolls, which were actuallly not bad. 2) wonton soup. The wontons were passable, but the broth was simply salty water with lots of white pepper. No hint of chicken & nary a vegetable to be found. Ate the wontons & dumped the soup. 3) cashew chicken: soggy cashews, dried-out chicken, a few pieces of green onion, & no flavor other than salty brownish sauce. 4) steamed rice. How can they mess this up, you might ask? Well, they cooked the rice in soy sauce & it was inedible, If I wanted to eat something that tasted like I was drinking soy sauce from a bottle, I woiuld have done it. 5) When we asked for plastic utensils & plates,, they gave us the utensils, but grudgingly searched tto find plates. We werre staying in a motel & didn't travel with our own plates. Glad we opted for take-out, because the place could definitely used a face lift. So....ate the shrimp rolls & the wontons, & a few bites of the chicken. The rest went into the trash. I know we were in a small town in Texas, not San Francisco or NY, & didn't have high expectations, but didn't think it would be quite THIS bad. read more

I did not like this place and would not go back. I came here for dinner while staying in town for a couple of nights and was tired of the regular steak/burger menus most places had. The only good thing I can say about this place is that my server was nice and attentive. The menu consists of typical Thai food and the selection looked decent. I started by attempting to order a bowl of egg drop soup and an order of summer rolls (aka spring rolls). Unfortunately, my server informed me that the woman who makes the spring rolls was off tonight, therefore they weren't available. Not a huge deal, but definitely disappointing. Since this was the case, I settled for a cup of egg drop soup and chicken pad thai. The food took a very long time to arrive, almost 30 minutes, which was completely unacceptable, mostly since the restaurant wasn't even half full. The soup came out first and was a generous portion, however it was completely bland. Soon after the pad thai came out and it also did not have a good flavor. I was able to spice up the soup with salt and soy sauce, however the same remedy did not work on the pad thai. In addition, I attempted to add sweet chili sauce to my dish to even more flavor, but the opening was completely caked over (GROSS!). Sadly, I wasn't even able to eat half of my food. This is by far my favorite place to eat in Childress! I'm a sucker for Thai food and always get the combination fried rice; chicken, beef, and shrimp. I do usually ask for extra meat because they aren't too generous on the portions. However, it comes with tons of rice and is always both filling and delicious. The only reason I'm giving this restaurant four stars instead of five is because the servers aren't very good most of the time. read more
