Been here a few years ago, was good like the others, but today there was some ups and downs.
Ordered the Mini Tom Yum Soup with Fish.
Broth was good, but mostly tasted of salt and a very light tom yum flavor, so I wasn't very use to that. Very little to almost no vegtables, so I don't recomend this dish if you're looking for vitamins and minerals :( It was all noodles lol Very strange, but the worst was the fish. It had a deep fried batter all around each of the 4 pieces, then it was dumped into the broth, which made the batter very soggy... I don't know why they did this!? I would have been happy with just plain pieces of fish, no soggy batter. Fail for me.
I also ordered steamed chicken dumplings in peanut sauce. Very bland, no taste at all, I had to cover it in hoisin sauce. Also the dumplings were so slipery from the steaming, that my chopsticks could not hold them and I had to stab them lol The peanut sauce would NOT hold onto the dumplings...It was like they steamed the dumplings, than poured the bland sauce on top. Very bad. I loved the crushed peanuts ontop though. The chicken inside was strange, and didn't taste like chicken at all.
I really like how they give us the option to have mini soups, which is very cheap, and affordable to have everyday if I worked in that area, but there's no veggies to give vitamins, so it would be a bad idea sadly. I still like the idea though, it encourages me to want to add more side dishes.
I was very tempted to have the banana and chocolate, but the banana was fried, so since my fish was already fried (soggy), I didn't want to get a 2nd fried item :( too bad though, cause it looked really good in the picture lol.
I was disapointed that they didn't have any of the teas they had on display. I settled for the green tea they had, which was a regular store bought organic kind that I could get anywhere.
I think they have something going good here with their mini dishes, because I would rather order a few different things and pay a little extra instead of getting one big thing and pay the same as if I was getting 2 mini things (which by the way, their portions are actually very good, even for mini !). Or order one mini dish everyday often, instead of paying double for a big dish once in a blue moon.
Next time I'm going to get something with more veggies though, so I feel more balanced. read more
