To be clear, the food is so very good that we were going for pickup nearly each week, and even did budgeting to see if we could fit it in more. However service is getting so poor that we wondered if we could learn to just make the food at home ourselves. It's getting that bad. If you order online, or in a delivery app, you will still wait to pickup as they seem to mark the order as complete long before it actually is. The staff don't always acknowledge you when you arrive, and will ask you to wait on your feet the entire time. I have even observed senior staff belittling new staff. I have begun wondering if someone is unsure of how to use their order system, as it seems when I arrive they begin to make the food. So maybe they think that they are marking the order as started, but are actually marking it as completed? Either way, it's a horrible experience for the customer. But the food is so incredible I'm likely to come back again and again.

1st time to eat here and very impressed. Possibly one of the best in London…read more Spring rolls were crunchy, and delicious. The pho special was amazing. Tasty broth. Very proportionate soup to fillings. Pork chop on rice with egg was also delicious. Fresh cooked. Parking available Nice interior setting for a casual restaurant. Prices are fair and portions really generous. A few cons: Server didn't check on us. We had to call her across the room. (8pm Friday night, only 10% occupied) Payment by card you have to do at the front counter. THIS one was just shy of a 5star. Wish I can do 4.5 stars. Nonetheless, you have to try this place.

This was our second visit to this location of Ben Thanh. Our first visit was 10 or so years ago and…read morewe remembered enjoying it, so we thought we'd go back. Unfortunately, this visit to this location didn't live up to our expectations. We both ordered vermicelli dishes which arrived promptly after we ordered. They looked pretty on par with the vermicelli at the other Ben Thanh locations. We both had shrimp on a sugarcane and honestly it just tasted strange. This is something I order at least 3 times a month and have done for many years, so I know how it's supposed to taste. First of all, it was about 80% sugarcane and 20% shrimp, but it was very dry and hard. The flavour was very earthy and not at all shrimp-like. The meatballs were fine and the spring rolls tasted good although they were very oily. The grilled pork was also tasty but very dry and overcooked. We were both extremely surprised that there were no bean sprouts, no mint and no chopped peanuts. The decor was in need of an upgrade. The stairs down to the washroom and the whole downstairs was very dirty. The floor in the ladies' room was sticky. The vermicelli dishes were more than $10 each, which is very expensive compared to the many other Vietnamese restaurants we frequent regularly. And the food honestly wasn't nearly as good. Based on this visit, we won't be returning to Ben Thanh's London location.

Fresh, FLAVOURFUL curries--they don't "whiten" the flavour (the spiciness level seems to vary with the day, though, so just ask for how spicy you want it.) I'm in love with the peanut curry, which is a wonderful balance of savory, salty, and spicy, and cannot be found anywhere else in London. Their homemade peanut sauce is phenomenal. It's thicker, richer, and more complex than the usual kind, but still quite sweet. Other standouts include the wonton soup (well-seasoned and full of vegetables) the pad si ew (rich with plenty of wok hei), and the chicken satay (nicely browned, yet so tender!) It's a small restaurant and not particularly fancy. The serving sizes are smaller than average. But they're simply AMAZING and a must-try.

It was a good curry, but nothing differentiated it from any other good Thai curry I've had. The authentic Thai interior provided a good dining environment. The service was great! We stopped by during a recent trip out west after a friend highly recommended the restaurant,…read moresaying it was the "best Chinese food in town" and a must-try. While the food was good, it did not quite live up to the hype. We ordered the roast duck, eggplant pot, and beef noodle soup. The roast duck was cooked ok, the eggplant pot was comforting, but sauce and flavor were not rich enough, but kids love the beef noodle dish. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but none of the dishes stood out as particularly memorable or unique. Service was pleasant, and the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere, but based on our experience, it was good rather than exceptional.

We've only had take-away from Hakka, for obvious reasons. The portions are quite big…read more The teriyaki sauce has too much of a gravy consistency for my liking. The sweet-and-sour sauce has just the right amount of tang, although I would prefer if it weren't electric red as that is a sure indicator of unnecessary dyes. Oddly, the fried rice has a red hue as well. It's quite tasty and very unlike any other fried rice that's served in London. It's made with a long-grained rice that holds up well. They might consider using less styrofoam and non recyclable plastics in their take-away containers. Please be sure to specify if you don't need utensils and napkins (at all restos). So many of us are eating our meals at home where we have these items, so we can make a difference if we refuse them. We've tried Hakka twice and are likely to order from them again.
