I had the veg green curry. It was nice, but they seem to have started replacing the long beans with green beans. Not the same flavour/texture at all. The veggie mix is also really onion heavy now, almost no daikon and cabbage. read more

We ordered the Pad Siew, Sweet Coconut Shimp and Korean Short Ribs. I had planned on getting Malaysian noodles, however this location didn't have them. The Pad Siew Noodles were actually amazing and I really hope the location near me has them, I was very impressed. I could've had the entire thing on my own. The flavour was perfect, tasted more like a traditional pad thai (that's the real non-ketchup kind). The Sweet Coconut Shrimp was good as well, not my favourite though. It had a taste similar to the smell of fireworks, if that makes sense. Though it wasn't bad. The Korean Short Ribs were also good, but not that great. Usually I'm a fan of kalbi, but wasn't the best. We went to this location when the big chain restaurants in the area all had massive wait times. We weren't really thinking when we decided to go for dinner on a Saturday at 6:30pm. Luckily Ben Thanh was there and it was well worth the switch! The only downfall of our visit was that we waited a while before anyone acknowledged us. We saw that one side of the restaurant was packed while the other was empty. The line up started to build behind us. Luckily they decided to open up the other side so we all were seated fairly quickly after that. I got the Cashew Chicken which was absolutely massive! It didn't come with rice so I ordered it on the side. My friend tried vermicelli for the first time and she was the only one to finish her meal. She must have loved it! We all enjoyed our food but there was just SO much! Leftovers-a-plenty. I'll gladly return here and avoid the bigger chains all together. I prefer this location to the one downtown; it's much cleaner and seems less rushed. I'm not a big fan of Thai food but I love this place - I've tried a few of the different menu options and they are all good - fresh and generous portions. +.5 for service. I can see why Londoners like this place. Throughout my Southwestern Ontario travels so far, this place probably comes the closest to some of the best Vietnamese places in the GTA. However, it is barely not enough to be four stars. For lunchtime, only the right side of the restaurant was open as they cornered off the left side, therefore the restaurant had the feeling that it was busy. Service was excellent, with every waiter and waitress always attending to someone, giving meals out, or working the cashier. I had the beef stew tomato rice noodle soup with an iced lime tea. The iced lime tea is excellent for those who prefer it to be sour. For me, however, I like it to be a bit sweeter. No biggie, just a personal preference. The beef stew rice noodle soup was actually quite large considering I ordered a small. When I drank the soup, however, it had the beef taste, but a lack of tomato flavour. Some of the beef was good, but some were hard. The noodles were good though! Total came to $15 including tips, which unfortunately was a little bit too pricey considering what I got. A typical GTA restaurant with what I ordered, I could've easily went away with $12, and I would've gotten a product somewhat better than this. However, again, for a Vietnamese restaurant outside the GTA, this place is the best you can get (so far). If you're travelling west and need a lunch stop but don't want fast food, I will recommend this place. read more

The pho soup not hot enough to get the bean spout cooked. The noodle stuck together to bottom of bowl. The "brisket" you must be freakin' kidding that they are brisket. So much garbage. It is actual trash I couldn't finish. You must be kidding me this place has a 3.5 star. I would give negative if I can. Please close down you are a disgrace to the restaurant industry. Dead wasp in beef noodle soup. Enough said. The person in charge (manager apparently wasn't there) explained that because its so warm theres wasps flying around and somehow it might have gotten into the beef. Maybe they should look into pest control! No apology until we asked for an apology. Management is terrible. The lady also said if we don't want to pay for the meal then don't pay rather than her suggesting to comp the meal. I really have nothing good to say about this place. The wait times for food was exceedingly long. The pho broth was extremely salty. The food runners had no idea what they were bringing out to the group of us. Well I was in London for a conference n felt like eating something other than fast food or big chain restaurant eg Moxies, Jack Astor. I decided to give this place a try. The wait staff were helpful in making suggestions (I don't normally eat Vietnamese food) so I had the curry chicken on vermicelli. Once i placed my order food came out quick - and in a HUGE ass bowl. The vermicelli was soft n springy. Chicken was ok. There were lots of veggies which i loved . The curry was by far the least flavorful curry I have experienced among cuisines ( eg comparing to traditional East Indian curry dishes n even West Indian curry dishes). I just felt like the flavor was weak, almost watered down? Not enough kick to it IMO. I found myself yearning for the Curry Chicken Pad Thai that Spring Rolls makes. In any case, the food was certain edible. Would I go back again? Not for that particular dish. I rate it a 5/10 and I paid $12 including tax n tip. K. read more

I've been to all the Ben Thanh locations in London, the downtown and Fanshawe park road locations are great. The Wellington Road location is tough sometimes. The food is still great, but the service isn't always amazing. We had a reservation, I arrived before my friends, and I waited over 10 minutes, standing at the podium waiting for anyone, someone, to just stop and talk to me. When someone finally did come over (2 of my friends arrived by this time), we were ushered to a table, no welcome, no asking if we had a reservation, nothing. We told them there was another person coming as they only brought 3 menus (again, the assumption made by ushering us to a table without talking to us). We were given Tea, our other friend arrived, and then we waited... and waited... and waited... for someone to come and take our order. The food came out quickly enough, after we were done, we waited again for someone to come by so we could request our bill. And then waited again for it to come. I love the food here, especially the cashew chicken with coconut rice and their spring rolls are amazing, but at this location specifically, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Though the staff are very friendly, they're not very attentive and often ignore you if you try to wave them down or anything. It's like you have to get up and go find someone. read more

Been to the downtown location much more frequently. But since moving to this area of town, decided to give this location a try. The pho is just slightly not as good as the downtown location. But given the other pho choices around the city, both these locations still rank number 1 and 2. They recently redesigned their menu. Many items have little red text next to them saying "most popular". How can there be so many dishes that are "most" popular? By definition, most signifes the top one item. Makes me skeptical of the recommendations and so I just stuck to the pho. Don't do the Szechuan broth pho. It's a dollar more and not as good. Barely taste any actual taste difference. Also see reviews for their DT Ridout St location. This is THE BEST Viet-Thai restaurant in London. It's very economically priced (unbelievably so). Try their pad thai (I prefer chicken) or any of their long bean green curries. Other recommended choices are fresh BBQ pork roll, spring roll, deep fried cream cheese filled wonton and any of the vermicelli bowls. All pho is very good too and if delivered will have all ingredients separated from the stock so it's just as good to eat tonight or tomorrow for lunch. Read all the ingredients carefully before ordering and take suggestions from staff; there are some dishes that a less adventurous person would not be pleased with (beef tripe is one of many ingredients that don't appeal to me) After dinner, try a Vietnamese coffee, especially if you need a pick-me-up!! read more

This place is absolutely fantastic - I highly recommend it. After along 12 hour day on the road we arrived at our hotel nearby, determined to avoid the usual corporate chain restaurant for dinner. I fired up Yelp and saw several terrific reviews for Ben Thanh, which was just a few blocks from our hotel. The reviews were spot on - rock on Yelpers!. The Green Curry with Long Beans was fresh, aromatic, and very delicious. Pho was super yummy and my son had some pork chops which were so delicious he asked for the recipe (which our wonderful server was happy to provide). A terrific extra surprise was that we order fresh lime juice with soda - something I haven't seen since I was in Asia. Super Yummy!!!!!! read more

Initially when I came here, everything was super delicious and I love the pho 101 and vermicelli BBQ bowl ... And I still like it! HOWEVER, I realize this isnt the best Viet restaurant in London... The food is unauthentic and the soup broth is not as flavorful as other places. Also, I feel when their broth is cold, they just microwave it. The prices have gone up over the past years and it's just not worth coming here anymore. There are better places elsewhere for sure. But its your first time trying pho, you should come here. I like to give my reviews FAST. Food: Solid. Had the fresh shrimp rolls which were solid, exactly what I expected. Got the deluxe basil pad thai. The waitress warned me that it was a different flavor from the traditional pad thai so I can't blame them I didn't love it. It just wasn't very flavorful. I doused it in hot sauce and the sweet brown sauce (don't know the name) and then it was good. Ambiance: Nice. Service: Great service, my waitress was very nice and stayed on top of what I needed. The original Ben Thanh location (downtown) was a staple when I lived in this city many years ago. Upon my visit to town this weekend, we decided to order some delivery, which in this case came from the south end location. The spring rolls were what I rememebered - 2 big and super tasty spring rolls, possibly some of my favourite spring rolls ever. But everything else seemed lacking and cheapened. The most notable was the pad thai. While a very large helping, it was 95% noodle. There was no visible egg or bean sprout. There were no vegetables within, and no peanuts on top. There was a tiny amount of chicken and 1 (yes, literally ONE) single strip of tofu. Literally just a super bland big box of noodles with a bit of chicken. But then we ordered a dish with mushroom oyster sauce, which had no mushrooms. Edit: two of my family members got diarrhea the day after eating here. Be warned. Definitely would not recommend - although decent portions at cheap cost, very inauthentic experience with poor flavors and low quality. Recently went here with my family on vacation. Ordered Large Beef Pho, Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice, Deluxe Pad Thai and Yellow Chicken Curry on rice. Overall, we were all disappointed with the flavors. Reviews hyped up a sub par experience. Beef pho came only warm, and tasted bland. Decent amount of beef but tough after cooking in the broth. The broth is definitely not tasty nor complex enough (i.e. no long-boiled bone marrow flavor), which is most important in pho. Pineapple chicken rice is absolutely bland, no flavor at all. There is no pineapple flavor except for a few pineapple chunks here and there, and copious amounts of sriracha barely salvage the dish. Rice is cooked unevenly and somewhat clumpy. Chicken in curry is very dry, perhaps overcooked or stored for a long time; however, curry sauce itself is okay. Flavors do not blend well, onions under cooked, and salad greens as a side look disappointing. The Deluxe Pad Thai is strangely tomato sauce based and comes off as more sour than anything. Definitely lacking the peanutty and well rounded flavor I was expecting, although there was an okay amount of chicken and shrimp. This place earns one star for portioning but flavors and quality lose it everything else. At least the price range is low for the area, and the service is cheerful. Have been here 4 times for lunch it has really been hit and miss. The first time my meal came to me cold sent it back and it came back just as cold as the first time. I had a rice and chicken dish. The next I went I had the soup it was fine. The 3rd time Pad Thai again it was cold. so I have really no desire to come here to eat cols food. I eat here frequently and will always spend my dollars here. When it isn't busy the food comes FAST and the service is great. When it is busy I still get my food (main course meals) within 10-15 mins. I go here enough that I have developed a great relationship with the ladies that run this location and they are always welcoming! The staff is friendly. Ben Thuan is a generally good restaurant but this location sucks. I've only been here once, never again. First of all, our waitress was incredibly rude to us and a new employee. Never smiles, no "hi how are you?", just angry-faced "what do you want." The new employee was our food server, yes she was a bit slow but we understood. Our waitress, however, didn't. She kept yelling and giving her dirty looks which made me feel very uncomfortable. Also, there were around 20 full tables and only around 3 waitresses, so I understand why they were stressed but there's no excuse for disrespectful service. 0/5 for service, 4/5 for food. Even at 2 stars. Give this place a try if you want rude service. read more

I have been here a few times and it is not as good as the downtown location but the last visit was so bad I will never go back. I was served an overly salty soup which I tried to enjoy before losing my appetite. I asked for it to be returned and taken off the bill as my friends had their meals. I was told they have a "no return" policy, there was "nothing wrong with the soup" and and I was forced to pay for it anyways by a pair of rude older women. I love Vietnamese food - this was really poorly executed. Granted the broth of the pho wasn't bad but it was served with just bean sprouts and measly lime wedge. No thai basil or mint! Their fried spring rolls had bean sprouts in it too! Never had authentic Vietnamese spring rolls with bean sprouts. The chicken pad thai was very bland - all orange in color with very little chicken. Lacked flavor. The only mildly good dish was the grilled chicken and pork chop over rice. The Pho special came with mango pudding for dessert. When it arrived it tasted ok but it had the recycle triangle and cup information indented in the top - made it feel very manufactured instead of made in house. Not sure which it was. Service was nice enough. I guess if you are looking for simple food and don't mind that it doesn't taste very authentic it still may be the only choice in London - everything else looked like a chain. read more
