My parents-in-law have been eating at this restaurant over 20 years. They are Caucasian, but love Vietnamese foods. They know the owner very well since they came here very often. I came from Little Saigon, southern California and I cook very good Vietnamese foods (I am Vietnamese), so I am quite picky when it comes to Vietnamese foods. My parents-in-law took me here last night. I was surprised that the restaurant is not decently decorated. It is clean, but not an upscale restaurant by any measure. It is truly a holes in the wall restaurant and it the rougher part of London. However, it was more surprised to me was the foods were pretty good. We ordered: 1. Vietnamese spring rolls (#3) 2. Pork shredded rolls (#4 I wanted #5, but we didn't write the correct number) 3. Crispy chow mein with calamari, shrimp, beef, broccoli, onion, and carrot (#39a - Delicious!!!) 4. House special rice with BBQ pork, shrimp, shredded pork, fired eggs broccoli and carrot - (#56 - pretty good) 5. Special stir fried Beef (bo luc lac) with veggies (#79 - pretty good) 6. Mango smoothie (#106 - pretty good) 7. Sour sop smoothie (#104 - excellent!!!) 8. Shrimp pasted on sugar cane wrap (#1 - They ran out of Chao Tom) 9. Jack fruit smoothie (#105 - They ran out of jackfruit) I enjoyed everything we ordered, specially #3, #39a, and #104. If you don't mind the holes in the wall, then order some tasty foods at this Vietnam restaurant. I will take my children there for the crispy chow mein next time we are in town. As you probably know, London doesn't exactly have the best Asian food. I mean if you ask around you'd probably be referred to the mandarin. There are other Vietnamese places in London but after trying them all I found the best one. Vietnam is on the east end of London and is right across from the Kellogg's factory. If you have trouble finding it, just open your window and follow the smell of corn flakes. The location is a little sketchy. Upon getting there you'll notice a sign to park out back. I haven't actually been there where there was not ample parking. After going in you'll notice the decor of what used to probably be a club of some sort. By this I mean disco lights that probably haven't been turned on since they opened. Other than that the place is actually quite big. Today i ordered a bowl of pho with everything in it. First thing I noticed was that the beef was well done. Not sure if I read the menu wrong but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The meat balls were homemade but rather small (no pun intended). The beef flank is something I could go on for days about. I wish I got a bowl with just flank steak slices in it. It was amazing. It was very tender as if they slow cooked it forever and then sliced it up and put it in the soup. You MUST try this. The noodles and soup were quite generic and nothing really popes out. I did notice that the sizes were not extremely generous. I think I ordered an XL and demolished it in minutes. One thing I will note is that the place is run by actually Vietnamese people. I mean, they don't speak English very well at all. If you're ever in London be sure to hit up this place! And then go outside and bask in the lovely smell of fresh made corn flakes. I'm having a difficult time starting this review as I'm not sure where to begin! This place is the definition of hole-in-the-wall dining. With its outdated decor and awkward space. I felt like I was attending a dance at the Legion. The greeting was quick and a bit abrupt as we walked in the back door, we were told to sit at table 11. The waitress was very kind and quite pleasant however. As she dropped off the kettle of tea, she provided us menus and a photo album of their dishes. This is really helpful when picking out what you are going to eat. You write down your order on the little pad of paper. I ordered my go-to, fresh spring rolls with shrimp and pork and pork bun with a spring roll (this one had bbq and shredded pork). I've recently just started eating bun (vermicelli) but I've had it at about 4 different places now. I'd say this one was #4 on my list. It was good, but not the best I've had. The fresh spring roll was good, but again, not overwhelmingly so. When it came time to pay, I was a bit confused by the ATM since they take credit and debit, although there was a bit of apprehension from the waitress when I asked to use my card. The meal came to about $18 with tip for 2 fresh spring rolls and the noodle bowl, I was so full and for a decent price. The fortune cookies on the counter (in bulk) were really yummy. The parking in the back of the building was handy. Make sure you turn left BEFORE the restaurant, otherwise you will have to drive around. There is an entrance at the back, dont go into the kitchen though! I'd say I would come here again if someone was wanting to go, but I doubt I'd go on my own. By far the best Vietnamese food you can get in this country. Authentic and delicious. Their location and ownership has not changed in at least 25 years. The menu has seen a few updates in that time but thankfully my go too order is still available and exactly the same as it was the first time I ordered. It's incredibly busy during lunch so get there early. The spring rolls are unique and like everything else made from scratch in house. Finally got to come back here in the longest time! My husband and I ordered regular pho. This place is know for its service and delicious food even from those who travel from Toronto! I love the new beer pairings they have with the dishes being offered. It makes the experience seem so much more real. Who wouldn't want pho with beer?!?!! Highly recommended family owned restaurant. Hey, Joe H. - hang onto your hat. The decor that you see is the "after" version. You should have seen it before! Our guess has always been that the disco lights are there for private karaoke functions (look for the tell-tale equipment). But we do not go to Vietnam for the decor. No, we go for the nosh. Every trip we order standard dishes - cha gio (fried, not at all greasy spring rolls), bi cuon (fresh rice paper rolls), the vermicelli bowl with bbq pork and bo luc lac (beef with lemon sauce). Also frequently consumed: salted shrimp, bbq pork with chow mein and lemongrass chicken. The fruit shakes are quite good. Mains are mostly $6-$10, soups are $6-$9 depending on the size and non-alcoholic drinks are less than $4. You can show up with a group and usually be seated without difficulty. Closed Mondays. They are licenced and carry at least one Asian beer (Tsingtao). Mr. Long will take good care of you! read more

Best vietnamese food in London. Big menu (with accompanying picture book, thankfully), big portions, and cheap prices makes it easy to go back. Their fresh rolls are the best I've had in London ($4). I usually get either pho with rare lean beef or a vermicelli dish, both are around $8 and more than enough for a meal with leftovers. You could definitely get a meal here for $10 and leave full. Decor is nothing fancy. There is street parking or parking around the back in a gravel lot. It's usually fairly busy. Can't say I've faced any language barriers as these places sometimes have, but we just order by menu number and don't have much other interaction. Best Vietnamese food in London. Consistently wonderful. I would suggest in particular the spring rolls and the beef lop rolls. The pho is okay but there are better places in London for that particular dish. My mother-in-law grew up in Vietnam and she always demands we visit this restaurant when she is in town because she has not found a place this good even in the GTA. I should warn you that the decor is dated and not great at all. That said, you will be enjoying the food so much you won't notice! read more

Flat out the best Vietnamese food anywhere. It is family run and the owners will modify any dish to your tastes without blinking. Want more chicken and no calamari in your pad Thai. Done! short review - very high quality vietnamese food, great service and prices... this is the place i go whenever i want some viet food. long review - my girlfriend and i discovered vietnam restaurant three years ago and have been coming back at least once a month ever since. although it is very far out of the way (especially for UWO students like my gf), it is definitely worth the trip. i usually judge vietnamese restaurants based on three dishes - fresh rice wraps, vermicelli bowls, and standard beef pho. vietnam restaurant excels at all three, especially the rice wraps which are clearly made with very fresh ingredients. i would recommend these items to a vietnamese food novice as a good introduction to viet food. i've since branched out and tried quite a few different items on the menu, and each time i've found the same thing: excellent portion size, fresh ingredients, well-balanced flavours. i would especially recommend the beef lop leaf wraps - very good flavour contrast of rich juicy beef with crunchy pickled carrots. also if you're a coffee lover who's never tried vietnamese coffee, all the variations of vietnamese coffee are very tasty (+ or - both ice and condensed milk). the service is always very courteous, and the old man who owns the restaurant will explain how to eat your dish if you're not doing it right (this MAY have happened to me with the beef lop leaf the first time!). the decor is nothing to write home about, but at this price point (less than 10 dollars for a full meal) i am for sure not complaining. ok so i clearly love this place, so why not 5 stars? well in my opinion a restaurant needs to make me gasp in amazement to deserve 5 stars, and although vietnam restaurant is one of my favourite places to go (especially in the morning after a night of drinking), i've never thought to myself "this is the best food ever" summary - this is really, really good vietnamese food that will cure you of any hangover and won't tax your wallet. read more

I have only been there once and it was with a large group of 15 or so. When you go in large groups, its best to order before hand. The time we went, we didn't pre-order and although the manager was really nice, he kept coming to our table and rushing us to order. The food arrive fairly quickly and the portion size was decent. I ordered soft veggie chow mein with tofu, it was good, but it was really greasy and sweet. I quite liked this place when I was a regular years ago. At the time, the place itself was a bit of a dive but the service was very friendly and the food was quite nice (the spring rolls were nicely crunchy and not greasy at all, their pho, bun, and chow mein were also terrific). My only problem was its location as it's quite far from where I usually am (although I guess that's not a problem for locals on Dundas St East) and it's also in a slightly sketchy part of town. Still, this is a very solid Vietnamese eatery for Londoners. read more

I love this restaurant! The food is delicious and consistent. The portions are huge, which I love, as leftover pad thai is the best. They have a good variety of vegetarian options, which is nice for some of my friends. The house wines are reasonably priced and very tasty. I would recommend it!! read more
