I like a cup of tea, and there is no better accompaniment than cake and this place does amazingly good cake. They also have vegan and gluten free cakes and drinks so it beats a good few cafe's on that alone. Their sandwiches are also really good and a bit different from your run of the mill cheese and pickle and all made fresh to your order. The staff also actually seem to enjoy working here and the atmosphere is great. Couldn't get a seat the last time I was down there so it obviously has plenty of fan's already. read more

A fusion of 50s american and parisian cafes, this local cafe is a great place to hang out (especially if you are a member of the MedSoc because apparently those guys get a discount!) of an afternoon. If you go in the evenings, there are sometimes open mic nights - unfortunately these aren't regular because attendance goes up and down - which is a great place to see some local talent. Me and my friend went there on our way back from Roath Park. It was a perfect little afternoon. If it had been a date, I'm sure I would have scored! read more

The pot has quite a few things going for it and a few fans too. The general mixed styling's of French cafe and a "home kitchen" are a lightly far fetched for the decor, but the atmospheres pleasant and the food is on par. I have mixed feelings for some of the menu, mainly because i'm not a fan of the over saturated waffle, crispy grilled bacon breakfast. The cakes are something you should definitely try though. Good enough to enjoy a coffee and do some surfing at the same time from the free Wi-Fi. It's not my local, but I appreciate a place where you don't feel rushed to drink up and move along, i.e. like cattle going through Starbucks. read more

An excellent coffee shop with a good choice of snacks available in generous portions and service with a smile. I had eggs benedict which I thought it was appropriate as it was the weekend of the papal visit (...!) and they were superb. On average for a full breakfast of top quality and a drink your bill will come to around £8 which is very good value for what you get. The coffee is also very good and the decor is inviting, which is a bonus as some of the other cafs in the vicinities tend to look rather dark and uninviting. Well done The Pot! read more

Lovely decor, informal comfortable atmosphere, friendly and very helpful staff and the food is absolutely outstanding. It certainly ticks all the boxes for me with a fresh and varied good value menu. This cute little licensed café on Crwys Road aims to make you feel like you're sat in your mum's kitchen, giving a warm welcome and serving up home cooked food and quality drinks. The owner has lived in both Paris and San Francisco, and as a consequence the cafe's unique décor is inspired by a combination of 1950s American homes, and French café culture. This place is far removed from the big, bland Costas of this world, with personal service and a slightly haphazard feel - yet free WiFi drags the cosy little place firmly into the 21st century. I have a confession to make, and it's going to completely destroy any cool Cardiff cred that I may have accrued in my time with the city. But anyway, here goes: I don't much like little cafés. I know, I know! Sacrilege! I am a heathen monstrosity, unfit to walk in the world of the twenty-something bohemian! This slight shall not be tolerated. I'll be shunned by all my most eclectically dressed compatriots. Local gigs shall be lonely affairs as I stand, unmoving, silently watching that band play. I realise that all the people at the gig who shun me for not liking cafés will also be standing, unmoving as they watch the band, but they'll be doing it to look hip. But wait! Salvation! I find Thé Pot to be tolerable! Enjoyable even! Quirk can irk. Self-consciously cool places have a tendency to grate on me, but Thé Pot manages to balance the quirk with an irreverent attitude that balances the more pretentious predilections of the clientele. It's a café that says "yeah, we know we're prats, but have some tea and join us". read more

I can't say it's a habit of mine to follow cafés on Twitter, but Thé Pot is something else. Transcending the simplistic definition of a simple eatery that just serves you coffee, this establishment has planted a firm reputation as a place to gather with friends and enjoy lovingly created fine food, live music and liberating chatter. Today, @thepotcafe has tempted me with cocktails served in glass teapots. This is quirky self-conscious nostalgia fuelled by a rebellious tongue-in-cheek appreciation of the modern. It's charming, it really is. I've never before wanted to drink a white Russian out of real china, but today I most certainly do. As you've probably guessed from the witty name, Thé Pot boldly wears its French influences. The interior design here is exactly like what my house would be like if the tacky jumble-sales and car boots round here were more like chic Parisian flea markets. The quest for the perfect cup of tea is the reason I will visit any cafe I've ever laid eyes upon. However, The pot looked something a little different. Walking into it was like walking in to my own little Truffaut film. Sadly my quest for the holy tea shall carry on as it was nothing special here. I was told their coffees are brilliant here and will put hairs on your chest. This is a bijou cafe with a lot of class, possessing an interior that is reminiscent of modern Parisian brasseries. It opened in 2008 to an adoring public and has remained popular ever since. The menu is impressively diverse, including breakfasts, mains and a selection of delicious cakes and biscuits. The coffee, an all important consideration, is excellent! Despite the exclusivity of the building itself, prices are reasonable and the service is impeccable, without being too formal... a difficult balancing act that these guys pull off with ease. It can get pretty busy at certain times of the day, and so it's better to pay them a visit when you have a bit of time on your hands, and don't mind a short wait for your meal. This little gem of a cafe has had my custom on quite a few occasions. It's very close to where a friend of mine works so we pop in for an after work coffee and cake pretty regularly. It's a really pretty place and has a really laid back, vibe. Like a little haven of calm from the busy world outside on frantic Crwys Road. There's no rush to order or be served instead there is time to sit and ponder,read a book or just peruse the lovely menu . There's always a good selection of light food and snacks with a lot of veggie options. It's my aim to try the New York style breakfast one day. The staff are very accommodating and will try to get you what you want if it's not on the menu. The coffee is very good and looks like a small work of art. The cakes are very expensive looking and tasting though the price is very reasonable. read more

A lovely small cafe, opened in 2008. The decor is a sort of modern Parisienne and very well done. The reasonably priced menu covers full meals, including breakfasts, and a selection of cakes and biscuits that are well worth trying. The service is very friendly and it's all very homely feeling. We went there at a very busy time and they apologetically explained that if we wanted a full meal it could take up to 45 minutes. Luckily we just wanted tea and cake, and we were served almost straight away, but at busy times it seems there can be a long wait. The cake was delicious- very rich with strong coconut flavours. They do good milkshakes too, which are proper extravagant shakes made with ice cream and with a cookie on top. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Once upon a time my housemates and I were being persecuted by the TV license man. We had forgotten to pay our bill and had to flee from him and our house, a trio of hysterical messes who in our collective states realised that we needed a safe haven within close proximity to discuss options and to STOP PANICKING. We fled to Thé Pot, a cute little cafe around the corner that merges elements of the Parisian and San Franciscan cafe scenes. I like to call this enmeshment San Parisco. It was my first time here and I loved that it's so cosy and small but feels light and bright and airy due to the decor and the huge windows. There are bits of art from local artists on display on the walls, kitsch cake stands with yummy looking treats, and kooky aprons modelled by the staff and available to buy. Food and drink-wise, Thé Pot serves incredible smoothies and milkshakes. If you like your beverage to be so filling and yummy that it feels like you're drinking a meal then try The Wake-Up Smoothie - it has oats in it as well as cream and honey so it's a bit like a naughty version of porridge. I'm also a huge fan of The San Francisco Breakfast, a posh combination of scrambled egg, sweet chilli jam, toast and Parma ham. I like indulgent and decadent breakfasts. Thé Pot has an alcohol license so you can make your breakfast that little bit more decadent should you wish to. As well as the breakfasts there are deli-style sandwiches on very thick slices of bread. The ever-changing specials board also has something for everyone; I've had a wonderful butternut squash and goats cheese lasagne from it before. The prices are reasonable but you get what you pay for as the meals aren't huge. Then again, if you're starving you can always fill up with one of those milkshakes. The TV license day ended with our TV in the back garden, being pelted with rocks by my most neurotic housemate. We paid our bill and nothing came of it (except that our TV was broken. Silly neurotic housemate). Sadly the three of us don't live together anymore but we still like to congregate in San Parisco once in a while to reminisce about our exciting days as outlaws... read more

A great place to eat with friends either just for a snack or a meal, the staff are lovely and the food is GOOD. I think this is one of those cafes which are all about the little things, the interesting decor, enjoyable and varied music and that you always get a little biscuit with your drink. As I said before the food is wonderful, freshly made cakes and sandwiches and a varied menu that tries to keep some seasonality to it. Also when I say sandwiches these aren't run of the mill they are big doorstop sized pieces of foccacia with goats cheese and roast vegetables or the kind that is just spilling with meat and delicious! They also do great breakfast, though on a weekend you'll be lucky to get a seat with all the students who end up there recapping the night before over a cuppa and eggs benedict. It can get busy and you will be waiting but they do warn you beforehand. Also because of their popularity you may find that some of the dishes you wanted aren't available, this has happened to me a few times but it is understandable as they are a small but busy establishment. A free wireless connection is available so if you need to bring your work with you its always an option. read more

This place is great. The ambience is fantastic. It's very Cafe Parisian and the music is always great. Chilled and relaxing. The place is very small but this is all part of the charm. The food is amazing, you don't seem to have to wait very long and they have a very good selection for vegertarian and organic eaters. The sweets are an interesting mix of ideas, all home made and with a healthy twist. The Pot is definitley my favourite Cafe around the Cryws Road area. The staff are very nice and until they upset me I will returning over and over. read more
