It's a great place for breakfast (brunch), lunch and dinner (and after dinner cocktails). But let's admit, they are all much alike....if not identical. Which is why the service counts, and I have to say that this F&B's is pretty exceptional in my opinion. The waiting staff have always been courteous, and through some very busy rush hours, have still been prompt and helpful. The food here is cooked to a high standard, and generally there is a more 'individual' feel here. Recommended!

Particular praise must be given to our waitress though, who provided a great service to such a large party. On this occasion we'd actually aimed to go to the McDonalds in the Bentalls centre, but it was so darned hot that we had to get out of there. So we had seen a TGI on the Yelp app and headed over to there (it was only a short walk away). Took a minute for staff to come and seat us, but we knew we had been seen and so it was no problem. The inside of the restaurant is enormous, and so we were seated a few tables away from the closest other table. The waiter was just the right level of attentive - I always think that a good sign in a place like this is when they prompt you about getting a free refill of a soda or similar, and the waiter did just that here. My wife had the hotdog with the beer cheese, and I had the Jack Daniel's chicken sandwich. I always love that JD glaze, and the beer cheese hotdog was far better than expected! The beer cheese sauce itself was great, and the hotdog itself had a good snap to it. Normally we'd avoid a pork hotdog (beef hotdogs are usually better), but this was a good one. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

I wold definitely say I enjoyed it more when I was there for a normal dinner. F&B's tries to pass itself off as New york-style Italian food, but as an expat New Yorker that this is just not true. This is typical anglicised Italian food that is decent enough for a dinner out, but not anything fantastic. As for the Christmas party, I would definitely NOT recommend going here with a large group, at least not during the Christmas season. Although promised a larger roped off area, we were all packed into one long table with no room whatsoever to mingle. The food was not very good - not up to their normal standard - and service was very slow. I understand that it was packed and hectic, but hopefully since I've been they have learned to adjust themselves to such a situation.

The staff are all friendly here, they also do some rather tasty cocktails. They have a nice bar and a cocktail barman who does all the flair so it's quite impressive. They host a lot of birthday parties and it's a good place for a large group of people to go, they have tables which can be set together quite easily, often get parties of up to 20 here. I'd recommend having a cocktail or too, it's conviniently located next to the cinema too for a film after, or the wetherspoons is just across the road for a drink!

We booked ahead for this place, as it was a Saturday. But we were still made to wait at the back of a long queue, behind everyone who had walked in. After half an hour, we finally got seated upon a rather dirty makeshift table, which partially blocked the exit. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if our server hadn't run into our extended table every time he passed. Our server also had no idea about the things what we were ordering, and had to keep reading the menu - that's fine, he could be new. But then we come to the food. Firstly, the waiting time was catastrophic. If you can't cope with so many people, stop seating them in the aisle! The food itself was largely inconsistent. We received one cold starter, then five minutes later a hot one. And out of five of us, only one enjoyed their main. The rest of us found it either burned, cold, or completely the wrong order. The one thing I will say is that it is good for families, and parties, but for what you will pay per head, you can find much better quality in the area. For everyone else, bare in mind you will have to listen to the brain-numbing happy birthday song every ten minutes.

For these reasons alone Frankie and Benny's is a casual favourite of mine and an ideal eatery for families or groups of youngsters. Staged as a casual American Italian Diner, it is very welcome in a town with an abundance of 'fancy' Italian restaurants and a happy medium between taking your kids to a restaurant or taking them for a McDonald's. Especially great for teens and tweens Birthday meals, I never grow tired of the lights dimming as the waiter brings an unsuspecting child a cake and the speakers start blaring out Cliff Richard' s 'Congratulations'. It is simple family fun, but if you're like me and have no children, it is also an ideal place for a quick dinner in your cardie and jeans before going to see a film in the cinema right next door.
