GBK is one of the newer offerings in Bluewater, it's located in the new area of the mall called the place on the ground floor, surrounded by a number of other restaurants. GBK is a chain and surprisingly for a chain, I've heard many good things about it. So my brother and I decided to stop for lunch before we did our christmas shop. (Plus I owed him.)
We were quickly seated at our tables and the service is very much like nandos. You pick what you want, walk to cashier pay and then they bring the food over to you. Quick, easy simple. Saying that though, there are some intense similarities between nandos and gbk and gbk is trying to follow in the footsteps of nandos by bringing out their own special sauces such as waca waca, and special salt (like peri peri salt!)
Onto our orders, I wanted to try the christmas offering and opted for a Venison burger last minute and my brother opted for a wellington burger (beef and a portobello mushroom.) In comparison to the american type burgers, i would say that the menu is very euro-centric especially flavours. I was a bit apprehensive about Venison because it is a meat with alot of flavour but it's also quite delicate, so I wasn't sure mincing it up into a patty would do it any favours and in a way I was right. Not to say I didn't enjoy it, it was one of the better burgers I've eaten, but I felt that it was a little overseasoned which ruined the delicate nature. The Wellington burger was very nice, my brother thoroughly enjoyed it, it's not the minced mushrooms either, but a whole portobello which is good considering it was around £9 for a burger. Hefty prices but you get what you pay for. One gripe with GBK is that you have to order fries and sides separately and it's around £4 and the portions are on the small side, but as the burger was such a big thing to eat, I'll guarantee you that you will leave feeling full!
Meal including drinks cost me close to £30 for two and that is pretty damn expensive imo, but if you want a burger that is different from normal burgers, GBK offers alot of flavours that are really interesting. If not, head off to mcdonalds. read more
