Much like the café, this review will be simplistic! Coffee beans (available for purchase) are…read moreClimpson & Sons, and Alchemy though (unclear what this is used in). C&S are of Hackney café and roastery fame, and an up-n-comer on the London bean wholesaler scene. + Coffee quality is high, which it needs to be given the prices oscillate around £2.50-£3.20. Probably one of the better flat whites I've had. Latte art seems to be improving lately. + Beans are available whole or ground from £8.50 per 250g- and in fairness to the barista she split a kg bag to give me while beans. I use an Aeropress with a Porlex grinder, and the coffee is rich & smooth, but not hugely complex-not necessarily a bad thing. ? Haven't tried the food & pastries, as to be honest Minkies still seems the place for these. Will try and add another star if good. Pricey with room to improve, with somewhat friendly staff. Yet like their sign outside, they are the only place in Kensal Rise, arguably all Queens Park, that does 'proper coffee'.

Not that comfortable, but at least it keeps you awake on a Monday morning, no falling asleep because of comfy chairs ;-) I had a delicious mocha and some toasted banana bread. The mocha was perfect and so was the bread. The service was quick and the ladies behind the coffee machine were very nice. Perfect place to have some coffee on a drizzling Monday morning!

Willesden

Food For Thought is a cute little cafe on Willesden High Road (it's a 3 minute walk from Willesden…read moreGreen tube station - not Dollis Hill as it says on the info at the top!) It was renovated fairly recently too, either last year or the year before, so it's really cozy and bright looking now. The owner is super friendly and chatty and is in there serving customers himself every day. It's nice to pop in for a sarnie and be recognized and have a little chat! Felix's review is wrong - it's not a veggie cafe and never has been!!!! :) I myself have eaten a yummy lemon chicken, avocado and rocket sandwich there before....Italian chicken salad...etc. They have chicken, bacon, tuna etc on the menu... Things I have eaten there more than once that I would definitely recommend are the 'Nick's Feast' jacket potato (quite a cute idea that customers can come up with their own combinations of fillings for sarnies or potatoes and get it named after them on the menu) which has LOADS of hummous, rocket, olives, sundried tomatoes, grilled aubergine and and and...I can't remember what else is on it, but it's big, filling and yummy. The salad boxes are a good deal - for £2 you get a box with a selection of salads - all the usual lettuce, tomato etc, then whatever else they have there, depending on the day - olives, grilled aubergine, sundried tomatoes, potato salad, pasta salad, hummous etc. For £3 you can also add chicken. The make a decent cup of coffee - not the best in the world, but by no means bad. The homemade lemon cake is also DELICIOUS and only £1 for a big chunk of a slice. A cheap and cheerful, clean and friendly little place that is an asset to the neighbourhood. They also do catering, here's their website for more info: www.food4thoughtlondon.co.uk

Food for Thought? More like Food to Cure the Worst Hangover Ever!…read more There's nothing better than a fry-up the morning after a heavy night out. I remember reading somewhere that some scientists discovered that fat plus protein equals great hangover cure, which explains why I was craving a full English this morning after Friday night's excesses. That's what I'll tell myself anyway... Food for Thought is a colourful little cafe with a conscience. It's biggest selling point is the use of free-range ingredients, and the wide range of healthy meals on the menu, from salad boxes to jacket potatoes. I opted for the slightly less healthy but much-needed veggie English Breakfast, which at £3.80 was very reasonably priced and came with fried egg, hash brown, veggie sausage (consisting of potatoes, carrots and other vegetables), tomatoes, mushrooms, beans and loads of buttered toast. It was pretty bog standard, but perfect for a lazy weekend breakfast. The cappuccino was good and strong, and soon whipped me out of my hungover haze. Friendly service, fresh ingredients, and good simple café food with plenty of healthy options makes Food for Thought a firm Willesden favourite.
