I've been going to see Jen White at The Grooming Room ever since I got to Dallas two years ago and…read moreshe's been an excellent stylist that listens and provides me with a perfect haircut every time. It's always an awkward feeling looking for a stylist if you move to a new city, or if you're looking to make a switch to your hair - but Jen makes me feel comfortable, offers great advice, and I always look sharp walking out of The Grooming Room. Go see Jen if you want your haircut done right and at a very reasonable price. Did I also mentions she's a great conversationalist? Go see Jen and you won't be disappointed!

I've always tried to support local businesses, but my recent experience at The Groom Room…read more(Hillcrest Ave.) was completely unacceptable. I brought my three kids (ages 4, 6, and 8) for haircuts on October 30. We arrived right at 2:10 p.m., which had been pre-approved over the phone. My 8-year-old son, Kai, sat with a barber named Reid, who immediately spoke to him in an aggressive, impatient tone -- snapping at him to "hurry up," telling him there was "no way" he could do the haircut my son showed him, and blaming us for being "late." When I calmly asked him not to speak to my child that way, Reid turned his hostility toward me -- raising his voice, shushing me several times, and waving his hand to silence me in front of my children and other clients. It was humiliating and completely unprofessional. I spoke with someone in management who apologized, but no one else in the shop said a word or offered any acknowledgment. The lack of accountability and basic respect was astonishing. My son left embarrassed and upset, and I left furious that a professional would bully a child and treat a customer this way. We've been repeat customers, but after this experience I will never return. Avoid Reid at all costs.

I enthusiastically recommend against going to 18/8 Salon…read more In addition to the cost of the haircut and the tip, an additional service fee appeared on my bill that had not been disclosed to me beforehand. I've never had a salon add a charge that way. It was unethical and sneaky I also had trouble booking online, so I called. I paid extra for an offer that included a second haircut at no charge. No one told me the second appointment had to be **within four weeks**, and I wasn't given a card or anything explaining that deadline. I would never have bought the offer if I'd known. When I called to book the second cut after five weeks, I was told they couldn't honor it because I was one week past the deadline. The person I spoke with said they would ask a manager, given that the restriction hadn't been explained to me. No one ever called me back, even though I called twice. The haircut itself was okay, but it absolutely was not worth $65, an undisclosed fee, and a tip. The sneaky service fee, sketchy promotion, & lack of follow-up made the experience considerably worse. I expect a salon charging these prices to be upfront about its fees and the terms of what it sells. Obviously a business that relies on heavy one-time fees with no expectations of return clientele.

These were not easy times to navigate and I had experiences with other establishments that showed no empathy to patrons.
