This is my second visit here. I feel grateful that we have this in our town. The doctors and…read morestaff have been wonderful

The star is for the front end staff and the nurse. Very friendly and responsive. But, I had…read morescheduled an appt and there was only one other person in lobby. When they took me back, the doc took 30min or more to come to my room. When I was told it would be quick... Dr Vy - not a great doctor, IMO, I had been sick with symptoms that mirrored the Cyclospora Parasite outbreak. I mean they fit to a 'T'!! Plus I had eaten at Taco Bell literally 6-7 days prior to the first symptom! My symptoms were - Day 1 Severe nausea/gagging/dry heaving, diarrhea, no appetite. Then somewhere mid day, all of those went away. Then come evening the nausea and diarrhea would slowly start again. Day 2 I felt fine, maybe felt a lil off, no nausea, but did have diarrhea, nausea showed up later that evening, overnight. Day 3 severely nauseous/gagging/dry heaving early morning. No appetite. Half way through the day seemed ok, but very little appetite. Day 4 slept all night and actually woke up hungry and felt great all day! Day 5 all the symptoms showed up again in the middle of the night same as Day 1, bad! This was the day I decided I need to see a doctor. The info was out there about how the symptoms of the "poop lettuce" presented themselves and I was like this has to be that! When the doc came into the room, I explained all of these symptoms and the research. She told me the onset is usually within 2 days (not true - it can present in as early as 2 days- but per the CDC- a week is the average) and my symptoms weren't as severe as everyone else's. I use zofran and essential oils to help my symptoms plus not everyone is the same in their symptoms. I asked for the lab test to test for Cyclospora. She kept asking me about fevers. I said the symptoms I told you are the only symptoms I have had. They never took my temp in the office. 4x she asked about me having a fever throughout the 10-15min she was in the room. She said she couldn't give me an antibiotic without the lab test proving what I had - I didn't ask for that at this appt - I asked for the test. She ordered 3 tests, fortunately, I had the help of AI to determine the one test I requested, she didn't order! I was still in the lobby and asked the front for her to redo the orders because it's a very specific test that has to be requested that looks for Cyclospora. Finally got it. Unfortunately, this was a Thursday and I couldn't get the samples done before the lab closed. Long weekend goes by where Day 6-8 are a repeat of Day 5. Over the wknd I had time to research more about the lab tests, the parasite and the to do's and not to do's. My labs came back negative. Disappointing, but not uncommon, as the specific test for cyclospora is known to need to repeat tests (because of the parasites shedding cycle), but many doctors are trained to know the symptoms and can bypass the negative test to go ahead and prescribe the antibiotics based on the timeline from exposure to symptoms, the symptoms and the manner they present themselves. Or they could request a repeat test. Dr Vy - did none of those. Didn't request for me to come back in (we called to ask for the antibiotics/help because I was in bad shape) or another test. Her advice was to take Imodium and that was it. Off we went to the Mease ER. Where we were seen and heard right away. The ER doc said well, it's very common to need to do MULTIPLE tests because of the parasite shedding cycles- it's very common to get a false negative for Cyclospora. Since, I was dehydrated they gave me IV fluids, while we waited to see if I could provide a sample for them to run another test. Unfortunately, I had depleted my samples in the middle of the night (as that must have been my parasites shedding cycle ‍) and the ER doc made a decision (while advising me of the risks of taking the antibiotic) to go ahead and prescribe the Bactrim based on the timeline and on/off cycles of the symptoms and the specific symptoms. I am on Day 12 of this parasite sickness - but am also on day 3 of antibiotics with symptoms improving every day. First night symptom free with no zofran or oils! So, I'll never go to this urgent care again nor will I ever recommend it - unless it's obvious your bone is broken and this is the only place open.
