Horrible school. There are no parking spots, and no places nearby to park, so I always got ticketed for their lack of space. The faculty is not sympathetic for anything. A professor committed suicide in her office years ago and the school did not acknowledge it, and just brushed it aside, and their motto is "campus with a heart". They registered me for a dorm when I submitted a form that I was moving to an apartment, but they re-did it and I had to pay half of the cost of living in a dorm. They just take your money any chance that they can get. Their nursing program promises to provide tutoring, but did not give my dyslexic sister any of their time and effort. I just recently complete my MBA. with an accounting emphasis here. Their evening and weekend classes made it possible for me to return to school while still working full time and all that other stuff adult life entails. Although my graduate accounting courses did span over traditional semester lengths, all other courses lasted only six weeks. This helps you focus on one class at time instead of three, optimizing your study time and "free" time. Most professors really look to keep the students engaged and help them hone in on higher levels of analytical thinking that is expected at the graduate level. Although some courses lend themselves more to the research aspect than others, all require extensive research. Courses that do require cumulative research throughout the semester were, interesting enough, my favorite courses. Requiring you to translate your research finding as one would communicate with their client(s) in the real world, helped me not only with the planning stage of research but also to think in stages ensuring all questions are answered thoroughly to avoid wasting costly time in future stages. All graduate students know their writing skills will be put to the test. TWU does its best to ensure they produce graduate students with a higher level of poignant communication skills in a world that is overloaded with useless data and redundant information. read more

Several of the students transferred out of the program due to poor communication and disrespect from faculty, shared feelings of being scammed, and lack of organization (among other issues). They come up with the most dumbest excuses for you to wait more time and to fill more documents and requests just for you to wait on this school to process. I live 38 miles away from TWU, my prior school year here I had taken ALL online classes and I was clearly able to since I was at home. Now this year they're saying I live out of the radius and can't register for classes unless i move into the dorm or put in another request for exemption, (this is another request on top of the other). School is very pathetic, please do NOT waste your time going here because I swear they will not help you absolutely not, they try to juice every penny out of you. This school doesn't see their students as young adults trying to better their future, we're all customers to them, I understand college costs $$$ and takes time to enroll with documents and such, but TWU makes that process 1000000x more complicated which doesn't need to be. I love, love, love TWU! I have been out of school for some time but still appreciate the fantastic education I received here. My B.S degree in Mathematics was from 1996 and I later went back for an MBA in 2003. The classes were always small with real professors teaching the majority of the classes (vs. grad assistant teaching the lower levels in some schools, ahem, UNT). Professors were always available and very knowledgeable. My TWU education has served me well in the job market, too. I was a little worried about having a smaller school on my resume but I've been surprised how many people have commented on the quality of students they have seen coming out of TWU. The math degree got my foot in the door to a successful career and the MBA qualified me for management and new opportunities as I moved into my mid-career years. Just thought I'd throw out a perspective from someone who's been out of school for a while. An education is only as good as it continues to serve you beyond graduation and this one continues to serve me well. read more

My daughter is in the second semester of her freshman year. This past fall, she was majoring in Chemistry. She had trouble with at least two of the professors. One was very derogatory toward females. Daughter had her male friend ask questions for her in class because she felt belittled. Same teacher failed to report grades all semester. He would not release them on request, either. Many of the students failed or made low grades because they could not get an average to work from. The chemistry guidance counselor was not helpful. He said that teacher is just like that. He refused to allow her access to register herself. He refused to allow her to chose her own classes. The Horizons professor did not accept students choices of study if it was something she didn't like. The Chemistry dept would not allow her to chose her own classes and told her she could not take more than allotted hours because she would have nothing to take in the future. She wants to go summers, but the dept refuses to take transfers from UNT. They have very few professors in the dept and the quality is lacking. They do not want the students getting the classes at other universities so they refuse to accept them. She was told Summer courses are difficult to get into and that she would NOT be allowed to get ahead...not sure why. The counselor tried multiple times to get her to change over to biochemistry. She did not want that. So, I don't know if they are trying to get rid of the regular chem program, or not. So, she changed majors and now TWU doesn't want to allow financial aid to pay for the courses saying it doesn't go toward her degree. But they do, per the new counselor who is very helpful. They are very disorganized and preventing my daughter from getting the education she needs. If they can't provide the courses for a degree program in an appropriate manner, they should shut it down. If they have a bad, female hating professor at a predominantly female university, then he should be gone. Isn't that the basis of predominantly female university, after all? Tenure should not matter in the case of discrimination. It is a nice, small campus and has a lot of potential if they straighten ot up. Also, the sophomores and upper classmen should have more than one choice for a dormitory that is new, more expensive yet still having maintenance and flooding issues. Extremely grateful for the new counselor in the new degree program. He was very helpful, kind, and actually guiding her. Thank you sir and I give you five stars. ***** Financial aid office could use a lot of improvements, nicer people and a better organization. Students shouldn't be getting their financial aid at the end of the semester for the previous semester. Multiple students have had this issue. I am disappointed that my daughter could not continue her journey in chemistry at TWU. Her plan was for a PhD. I hope this new program works and she continues to grow. She almost transferred to another university... Who wants to deal with all that as a first time college student? Do you want everyone to drop out? Get it together TWU! read more

Great education wise! Classes are small which gives room for the professor to get to know you and you can ask questions. I love the schedule, MW and TTH classes. There are night classes, satuday classes that meet about 4 times a semester, and a not many MWF classes. I don't drive, but everyone complains about parking, no surprise there. You can't really get lost, all the buildings are close together. Out of class wise, TWU lacks school spirit and activities. They do hold events and activities, but rarely do they have high attendance. There are a few annual events that are worth going to. On campus food, is OK. It's gotten much better over the years. Although it gets very crowded during lunch. On campus dorms aren't too bad, unless you live in Stark and have the weekly fire alarms caused by burned popcorn due to really sensitive fire alarms. Living in Jones is more convienent being right next to the class buildings, student union and just down the stairs is the gym! Now the gym is small, the equipment inventory has increased in the past couple of years, but the gym hasn't. Some machines are cramped together, but supposedly a new gym is in the works. I like the majority of women because I don't have to be distracted by men and it's a more laid back atmosphere. Also the location is great, just 45min-1hr from most places in the DFW metroplex. read more

Spent four years of my life here. Met my two best friends and all my other crazy ones. Loved all of it, good times with this place, beautiful campus and great teachers. This school is small enough for your professor to still know your name and know when you havent been in your chair. They have been expanding and updating the university for the past few years. Updating dorms and athletic facilities. This school is close enough to UNT to still catch all the crazy college scene but still takes all academics seriously. And no worries its not all girls anymore. They allow some guys but over the years more and more have been joing the forces. They have one of the best nursing programs not that I took that route. probably should have. I had a great time and totally recommend it to anyone. The only thing I really missed was that big school spirit football games all that noise but like I said close enough to UNT to wear green someday read more

Academics: 3.5/5 Stars So...I would say, if you really are looking for decent quality education while financially struggling, then your best bet would be here. However, I can only speak on behalf of the education department when I say that staff members have been the best when it comes to their students. The Arts Department is not as inclusive as you may think, but the Dance Department is far ahead than the other Arts Department (music, fine art, etc.) You will have your fair share of inattentive, biased, and unfair professors, which is always unfortunate, because during those times you worry more about your grade than what you are learning. Financial Aid: 1/5 Stars The only person I trust in that office is Lisa Quinones. She will try her best to get you a scholarship! Other than that, financial Aid is probably something you will worry about at the beginning and end of each semester. They, along with the Housing & Dinning, purposely schedule and put out information two days before it is relevant to students. Emailing them takes more than ten days to hear back from them and no one picks up the phone. So gg. Academic Advising: 100/5 Stars Veronica Durham is one of the best advisors at this school. With that being said, most advisors at this school want you to succeed more than the teachers and staff members of the departments. They really are there to guide you through your degree planning and what you are suited for, or even want! Housing & Dining: Bruh/5 Stars Just......no... Just don't even do it to yourself. Unfortunately, if you need somewhere to reside other than your parent's/guardian's, then this is somewhat less than decent lol. Stark Hall is so dirty and it is getting old. As in, there is mold coming out the vents and the tubs are stained to hell, type dirty. Guinn Hall and Stark Hall has the most water problems. The first floor and basement (where laundry is located) is always above 85 degrees. Guinn hall just looks nicer overall. Lowry Apartments are a 50/50 that you will get a decent apartment. For what Housing & Dining charge, it is kinda too much, but only for the older dormitories because they are so dirty and worn down. They recently built Parliament Village which is pretty nice with community restrooms, but I think it is only for freshman's this year. Dining food has gotten better, but the hours are always being changed....just like parking. Parking & Safety: 2/5 Stars Honestly parking is kind of tricky because they really do change the rules and parking spots all the time, but they do try to inform students. However, they were not supposed to be ticketing anyone due to covid..so, if you get stuck with a ticket, they really must have went out of their way to ticket you lol. As far as safety is concerned, I felt safe for the most part, but try not to stay out after 10pm, because they have had too many racists on the campus posting racist flyers. *The school also fails to correct this regardless of how much they announce the events. Meaning...how many times would you talk about something before taking action, so that says a lot about the atmosphere. Atmosphere & Vibes: 2/5 Stars Moving further into the atmosphere and vibing...let's just say this is not the campus for that type of energy. I think that Denton is not that great on 'chill' atmosphere anyway (but that is just my opinion). Plus, with people attacking the Asian community and Black community, it made me even more ready to just hurry and graduate. Honestly, like I said, the school just announces the behavior and tell students that they are sorry it occurred, but never actually make us feel safe. Not really sure why people hype up the area, but I swear it aint all that. Just go to UNT or Dallas for that energy lol. But yea in one word, I'd say the school's atmosphere is cringe. Resources: 5/5 Stars They have suitable resources for what you may need. The have Academic Services for studying, writing, tutoring etc. They have Handshake, a platform to help you with internships, jobs, career training, gaining skills and writing resumes etc. They have a nice food pantry, professional dress closet for professional attire. They gym is really great, the library is great, and the bookstore is pricey lol. I hope this helps you all! I really gave it only two stars cause it really could be a whole lot better. They are making new buildings when what we really need is better food for bodies, an inclusive environment for all students and staff, better living conditions. Love, Love, Love TWU! It took going to UNT, ACC, DCC and back to UNT to realize that I TWU was the place to go. I was in my late 20's when I transferred to TWU....I had outgrown the need to party and really wanted small classes, quality professors and a focus on education...TWU fit the bill. No other institution I had attended felt so "right". The professors and teachers were a phone call away if I had a question. Plus, Denton was like a home away from home...I am from Austin and sorely missed it while at school...in Texas, Denton is the next best thing. Local business, friendly people and a fabulous town square. Very highly recommended....any time someone asks about higher education in Texas, I am quick to mention my Alma mater. My only regret is not picking up the t-shirt on campus that said "TWU Football....Still Undefeated!" read more

I earned my BFA in graphic design at TWU. My first year I lived at the main dorms. I had two different roommates and they were both less than stellar experiences, but that's not the schools fault. The RAs were great though. The dorms themselves are not great. One giant room and a full bathroom (that was nice). Campus is beautiful! I often had to walk from one side to the other for my art classes and didn't mind it ever. It did seem to rain a lot, so rain boots were a good investment. The magnolia trees are crazy awesome in the spring. Cafe food is meh. There's a chick fil a on the top floor. A mini coffee bar that brews starbucks (short hours, long lines). Most of my professors were great. I'd recommend checking ratemyprofessor.com for any. If you're an art student, you'll love Calabrese. Every other professor is great. I rarely had a TA and I love that the department heads even teach beginning level classes. read more

You can count of going at least one day without water a month in these dorm rooms. Often times more. The elevators always seem to have issues as well. The dining hall food is awful and their definition of "healthy" food is mushy, unseasoned vegetables. The workers at the dining hall are also very rude. I wish I chose another school. I have been at TWU for two years now; I previously had attended Oklahoma City University and Tarrant County College. I found all the staff open and friendly and most of the professors helpful. The school is located at a perfect spot in Denton and the neighborhood surrounding is kept up. The small feel of the campus and many activities and organizations to keep any interested student active. Take a tour of the campus if you are interested. It is also special to be in classrooms where women outnumber the men (there are always a few in each class) and females take the reigns as classroom leaders. The only downside is there are only a few athletic teams, all of them female. If you are interested in athletics as a male or coed, there are intramural teams. read more

The police at this campus are useless. If you're attending here make sure to pack some pepper spray, taser, anything to keep you safe. Bikes are also known to just "disappear" while you're in class. The on-campus cop said there wasn't much they could do and they don't have any working cameras in many parts of the campus, that made me feel real safe officer Also this is the same education you would get at any other community college but you end up in debt if you come here with these ridiculous prices in a town that's already charging an arm and a leg just for rent. read more

Im a nurse practitioner student. I started in the hybrid program and have since move 2.5 hours (140 miles) away from the school. For two years I sent emails calls and messages to my advisor asking if I could be moved to the online program and never got a response. (its hard to even get someone on the phone) Finally, someone in denton told me that advisor no longer worked here. So, now Im coming up against a deadline to graduate and they still have not said if I can switch. If I dont, Ill have to take 260 clinical hours a semester in person in Dallas, when I live near Austin. Now Ive been trying to fix this for two years - Its ridiculous. I emailed my dean today and she would not give me any information. Im over halfway thru the program and no information. This school is unorganized and unprofessional. Also, the teachers will scold you for no reason which makes your life like hell and is very intense but unethical. They play favorites - so its like "the 1950s called and want their way of teaching back". Taylor Dukes who is in charge of vaccines and drug tests etc. is not able to give any clear instructions - her instructions are sooo disorganized you would have to talk with her in person just to figure it out. My hospital system requires much more from me for compliance but they get things done seamlessly. I got scolded in class today while lecturing on cultural conpetence when I mentioned that my filipino family/friends dont like to take a lot of medicine - but Dr Hannah just used it to say that I was "biased". You cant judge a book by its cover Dr Hannah and if you cannot carryout that lecture ethically and fairly then you shouldnt do so. I doubt youve ever even been to Asia before, I have, and it certainly beats being in your class. Id rather spend my money on that anyday. read more

I would definitely not recommend TWU to anyone. The staff is incredibly rude and not helpful at all. Advisors are supposed to advise right? The school is getting more and more students so the classes fill up VERY quickly and they don't have enough staff so you just have to kind of wait another semester to take a class. They're good about flexible schedules as you can take almost all classes online but that's about the only positive experience I have had. If you research it TWU has a 44% graduation rate and overall in Texas it ranks very poorly. Everytime I go to a job interview people have never even heard of the school. You will not get a good college experience either. I wish I had spent my time and money elsewhere. read more

I'm writing to you about a scam that everyone should be made aware of... at Texas women University(denton) they have meal plans that students use student loans, cash, grants, etc. to pay for the school year. If there is a fall balance, that balance is rolled over to the spring. However if there is a Spring balance at the end of the semester the University just keeps that remaining balance. In my daughter's situation the school is keeping $900. That seems absurd and fraudulent while at the same time I'm owing a $2600 balance. This policy seems illegal. My daughter will have to pay student loans back for something she didnt even fully use..... how is this policy legal? read more

This is the school for serious students. I did both an undergrad and graduate degree here. Most of my professors were really nice. The department chairs remembered our names and what we were interested/involved in as undergrads. My friends at other schools had to fight for this kind of attention even as PhD candidates. I felt safe walking around the campus. The only thing I encountered at night was crickets. They can be vicious--literally leaping up on you. Unfortunately, the campus cops won't arrest them. It's less expensive than Austin. And since Denton now has public transit, you're able to get around town---even if you don't have your own car. There is a bus system. A light rail line goes from downtown Dallas to the square. Be sure to get out and about off campus. read more

Finished...made it out with a stellar GPA and some personal growth. I pushed back a couple of times when I didn't like some program processes, but objectively: I learned, I think I had a competitive advantage in internships, my skills were honed, and the way I conceptualize and think, transformed in a positive way. As a commuter student, I can't speak to the on campus experience. I think the university/FS program has opportunities for growth and enhancement, and I think the staff has room for some diversification and more of an emphasis on program/process improvement and course offerings. Overall, good experience; just ensure you do your research before making a significant financial investment in pursuit of any post secondary education experience/credential for employment in any industry. I like the TWU Denton campus. At first I was pretty indifferent about it, but Texas Woman's University actually has a pretty beautiful campus. I like the old university style buildings (since Texas woman's University was built in the 1900's) and how small the campus is. From one end of the campus to the other takes about 15-20 minutes. Very small. While it is a very small campus, there are still plenty of events and things going on, but luckily, University of North Texas is sister school with Texas Woman's University, and very close, so there are plenty of college events and things to do around University of North Texas if you want more of that "college lifestyle" read more

Giving it 4.5 stars. First off I didn't know you could review schools on Yelp, I was looking for a store near campus and stumbled upon this page. I attended TWU about 4 years ago and at first I hated it. I think I was just put in with the wrong crowd of people...like at any school a huge part of the experience is who you interact with and what experiences you get out of. Once I found a group of like minded people I enjoyed it. To be honest I was a little hesitant at first committing to attend school here because I knew no one. Most of the programs are fantastic! They really are there for you every step of the way. I've only had a few negative experiences: housing- I had 4 roommates in one day before school started one year and the person in charge was not the best at their job or communication. Then when I finally ended my housing contract (TWU Select--they no longer have these apartments or work with Scott brown anymore) they didn't go through the apartment until March and I had moved out in December and already received my deposit back. I got a cleaning charge for dust. I fought that charge and won as I researched contract law and leasing agreements and started speaking in legal jargon (not a lawyer and majored the polar opposite of political science). I'm not sure if they were mad that I found a loophole in the contract that let me move out a semester early without fees due to a departmental required internship because the next year that one line got changed which I find funny‍. The only other negative experience was the underground food quality and sanitation, but that had since been alleviated with the new student union in Hubbard hall and different company in charge of dining. (Kids these days have it lucky). It's kind of hard on the weekends being a residential student because of the high commuter student population that it sometimes felt a little dead on the weekends especially with less of a sports following like other colleges. Other than that TWU is financially a good choice especially if a bachelor's degree is not going to be your terminal degree. I was given a lot of scholarship $. The quality of education I believe is equivalent to other 4 year universities. I also feel that the smaller class sizes are a plus. Ignore some of the other reviews that are negative, they probably encountered someone on an off day. As for the cost of parking it's very affordable especially compared to other universities where it could be hundreds a semester and the transcripts and having to pay for them. Every single college does this, it's nothing new! I really like their connections with local community colleges where I had no problem transferring summer school credit back to apply towards my degree. As for the women's studies review. The curriculum has changed slightly and there are many many classes that qualify for that requirement...for example women in music. The gender and social change class quite honestly is just a sociology class targeted at all aspects of gender. This class is important because of TWU's history (And it's just ONE class). TWU has expanded so much since I left and the chancellor is doing a great job bring TWU into the spot light. This is just my take...take everything with a grain of salt. I am very appreciative of my time at TWU and my degree and with any college you get out what you put in. Proud to be a pioneer and going to a school I like to call the best kept secret in north Texas (seriously the campus is so pretty). read more

Professors at TWU are dumb as rocks! They don't know how to use Canvas or Blackboard, they don't tell you what they want from you but expect you to turn in an amazing project, they contradict themselves all the time, when you ask for help they tell you they'll help you in class even though the project is due that day, they are very condescending when you don't understand concepts, every class in your major is just another variation of the one before. The Housing is a mess!!! Our shower had lots of mold and ants, there's not enough parking for the residents because they took away commuter parking, they didn't have keys for us for 2 weeks, the refrigerator has been broken since we moved in 3 weeks ago and they still haven't fixed it, our window is broken, the couches have stains from God knows what, AND there is a 20 page print limit in our lobby! The dining options are way overpriced for the prison quality food and it all closes at 8 (which is to early for students who may have class til 8:30). But I mean what more could you want? read more

Honestly annoys me how TWU charges you $13 for them to email you a copy of your transcript. What a scam. I'm already having to pay for the classes and dorm there, why can't they offer free transcripts? The extra annoying part is how they don't even email you the transcripts immediately. It takes two days just to process your order. If so, it shouldn't be such an absurd charge. Money hungry. That's all TWU is.
