Four years ago, my wife and I visited this establishment and had one of the best customer service experiences we've ever had. The employee working that day was welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping us enjoy our visit. She guided us through wine tastings, answered questions, and created such a memorable experience that we purchased over $100 in wine and merchandise. In fact, that experience was so exceptional that it was the main reason we decided to return four years later. Unfortunately, our recent visit was the complete opposite. When we entered, the employee working was on her phone and did not acknowledge us at all--not even a simple "hello" or "welcome." We spent time browsing and discussing what we might purchase, and I even commented out loud that I wasn't sure what we wanted to buy. Despite several opportunities, no assistance or engagement was offered. The only reason we made a purchase at all was because we remembered and wanted to relive the wonderful experience from our previous visit. We purchased frozen sangria slushies, but we had every intention of buying much more. I was interested in purchasing wine, a tumbler, and a hat, and we were considering additional bottles of wine as well. However, when my wife was placing our order, the employee seemed irritated that she had to repeat herself and raised her voice in a way that made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. At that point, we decided not to spend any additional money and left with only the slushies. As someone who manages customer service for a living, I understand how much impact a single employee can have on a customer's perception of a business. Based on our experience, I would encourage management to review the level of customer service being provided and invest in staff training where needed. Exceptional customer service creates loyal customers and drives sales; poor customer service does exactly the opposite. We returned because of the outstanding experience we had four years ago. Sadly, this visit ensured that we will not be returning again. It's disappointing because the products are great, and we genuinely wanted to support the business. Unfortunately, the customer service we received made that decision difficult. One employee created a customer who came back four years later. We stopped by Texas Wine Cellars to pick up some wine to enjoy in our airbnb when we were in Fredericksburg for a few nights a few weeks ago. The store is charming, the service was good, but I wish they had a greater selection of Texas Hill Country wines for sale. They definitely had some of the more common and available labels, but the selection isn't large and doesn't get very deep on the list of Hill Country winemakers. I went in here twice to get my peach Bellini and left. I got the tumbler since it seemed like the better deal and you could bring it back for refills, which is exactly what I ended up doing the next day. Those peach Bellinis are smooth and go down easy! They are also filling. I noticed after sucking almost a whole tumbler down I didn't have a lot of room left for dinner. The staff here were wearing masks due to Covid. Although like many places in Fredericksburg there were some staff members that were a little lazy with the mask. Wear your mask properly please. This was a fun stop in Fredericksburg. They had sixteen beers on tap, and you can buy them in a bunch of ways. Growlers in two sizes, pints for $5, a taste for a buck, or a flight of five plus a pint for $8. Just overall...Boring. Staff was nice, but in no way excited to serve you. Not very interactive and failed to make any recommendations. $1 for each small taste in a tiny plastic container. BONUS: They have Bellinis (yum), wine, and a few draft beers by the glass available to go....take with you and enjoy while strolling Main St if you like. The older gentleman overseeing the store the day I came in was great, very hospitable. Even though, I do think he might have been a bit perturbed with me for taking the last 3 Real Ale seasonal October Coffee Porters he had in stock (I was overwhelmed with joy as everywhere else has been out of stock now for a bit). They have a good selection of local Texan wines and beers. They also have a decent selection of imported beers as well. I LOVED that you could just pick up a recycled beer 6 pack and mix and match your own selection of beers - from imported to local Texan. The lady that was serving us was drinking while working with my group. She must have been a bit buzzed because she made a mistake on which wine I wanted to try. Wine tastings were a $1 which really isn't worth it. It's only a small little cup, not even a glass they gave us which I think was a rip off. I decided to order the sangria margarita with a tumbler and drink it while walking around Fredericksburg. It tasted pretty good but $15 sounds over priced. We stopped in along our route of main street wine tastings, but opted against doing an actual tasting here. The tastings were $1 per tasting and they had so many choices that it seemed more appropriate to just buy a bottle of wine for $16 and leave it at that. They have frozen sangria, and offer to-go cups for you to take your beverage of choice with you while you walk along main street. The older gentleman behind the counter was nice and let me sample the strawberry wine before we bought our bottle. Right when you walk in you feel welcome. They have free beer tastings, and you can even get a beer in a plastic cup that you can carry around Main St. with you! We did a beer tasting, and the lady pouring for us was so nice and friendly and genuine. This is how business should be done.
