Texas Overhead Door - A Regrettable Experience I don't often write reviews, particularly negative ones, but I feel compelled to share my negative experience to caution others. 1. Incorrect Invoice Labeling: The garage door spring installed was wrongly labeled. It was listed as a dual-spring system but was actually a single spring. This kind of misrepresentation is unacceptable and misleading. 2. Inappropriate Spring Type: The spring installed was not optimal for my garage door and its weight. I was shocked to learn from other specialists that the type of spring used was suboptimal for the safety and longevity of my garage door system, which contributed to further issues listed below. 3. Safety Concerns: The most alarming issue was the safety hazard. The garage door, if disengaged, would fly through the rails and slam to the ground. I didn't know this was not normal (I'm no expert). But this is extremely dangerous and, according to even the business manager, should never happen. It's clear that the installation was subpar and did not meet basic safety standards. My new spring with a different company hold the garage door easily open in several position after being disengaged. Moreover, the spring installed by Texas Overhead didn't allow me or my wife to easy raise the door with our hands (too heavy). My new spring allows for easy and safe lifting. 4. Lack of Communication: The purchase was made during an after-hours emergency call, which understandably costs more. However, I was never informed that, due to the emergency nature of the call, the spring installed might not be optimal but merely one that was available and would "work and be safe." First, the spring was neither working properly nor safe. And second, it would have been helpful to know that a dual spring system would be more suitable for my door rather than the single spring that is not accomplishing basic functions (hold the door safely open and does not collapse once disengaged). I only had the new spring for 3 months. Even the manager admitted he may need to speak with his technicians about how they communicate with customers, especially on emergency service calls (these were his words, not mine). 5. Insufficient Warranty Promise: The manager promised to honor the warranty and attempt to fix the spring. However, by that time, my garage door opener system was already overworked, having to lift and drop an unsupported door for months. Plus my door had slammed to the ground, creating strain on the rubber seals at the bottom. This incident shattered my trust (if not almost the actual door) in the company's ability to communicate effectively and install a safe system. 6. Professional Opinion: Every garage door specialist I've consulted since has been appalled by the work done by Texas Overhead Door. Their feedback confirmed that the installation was indeed poorly, and unsafely executed. I don't often write reviews, but in this case, I feel it is necessary to warn others. I do not recommend Texas Overhead Door. There are many other companies that communicate better and can install a safe system. After just a few months with Texas Overhead Door's spring, I had to purchase a new dual spring system, which now safely holds my garage door in several open positions. The new technician even took the time to show me how it works, a level of service and education that was sorely lacking from Texas Overhead Door. Paying $170 for an emergency call should not also mean a lower quality experience. Overhead Door refused to issue a refund. And I could not accept their warranty as I could no longer trust them to safely install a spring or to communicate professionally through their invoice or in their emergency service work. I spoke with the manager over the phone for quite a while, and he is very well aware this review was coming. He accepted that just as I had to accept I was not being issued a refund. read more

Issue with a recently installed garage door. Cotter pin fell out and the door would not close or open. I am not sure items on the garage door should be falling off after 2 months?? I called to have someone come out and repair. They came out but I had to pay $185.40 for a door that should have been under warranty much less, withstand 2 months of opening and closing. The tech who came out was very nice. I wish he was the one that did the original install. So much for a warranty, you still have to pay for repairs. Doesn't seem fair!! I did write a letter to the owner, but I did not get a response. BTW, the cotter pin on the other side fell out this week. I was lucky enough to spot it on the floor and replace it. Garage door made a loud noise and then would not work. Noticed cable came of reel. Called TOD as have used them in the roast and had great experience. This time however not so great. Apparently when we manually closed the door the cable realigned on the reel. When the service tech got here the door worked perfectly. They greased that door and two more and did small adjustment--here about 30 minutes MAYBE. Total of bill was 378.88 -Seriously!?! I don't mind paying for travel because they did have to drive about 30 miles one way which I was charged 125.00 plus tax. Labor however was 225.00 plus tax!! FOR WHAT? I had referred them to a friend whom I just told to now use someone else. I will never again use them or refer them to anyone. I would give no stars if it would let me. read more

Collin did a fantastic job when our spring broke. He not only replaced the spring, but went above and beyond to make sure our garage door worked better and smoother than it ever has! My favorite part was that he was maybe the nicest man I have ever met. My daughter wanted to watch him fix it and he endures her asking question after question, talking about dolls, her cousins...lol. He was great and as he was leaving, my 7 year old daughter asked him to come back soon with his kids so that she could make more friends. read more

There is simple reason I am writing this review. We have used them on numerous occasions and they are always prompt, professional, and fair. We had used them 2 years ago when a spring went out in our garage. Yesterday,the garage wouldn't open and I saw that the spring had broken. I called TOHD and told them the spring was broken. The lady on the phone made some arrangements to make sure I had a tech on site same day. She told me that all springs had a one year warranty. Rats, I thought. She offered a three year warranty which I figured was a good idea as this spring lasted two years. We set appointment. When the tech looked at the garage he told my wife that he was the one that had done the spring 2 years ago and he had made a mistake then which caused the spring malfunction. He then replaced the spring at no charge. This tech could have easily just swapped the spring and charged us plus the three year warranty. The fact he took personal ownership and then made it right is more than refreshing. When you have techs with that integrity it obviously comes from the owners down. I will go out of my to do business with people that do the right thing. KUDOS!! read more

Our garage has randomly been running off track and not working consistently so I reached out to fellow soccer parents to ask if they had any garage repair businesses that they recommended and they immediately said Texas Overhead Door. I filled out a form online around 2pm on a Monday and was contacted at 4pm on the same day. I was super excited about the speed of service. They were able to get a consultant/tech to our house the very next day to research the issue and give us an estimate on the cost to fix our garage. We didn't expect anything but a run down on how much it would cost to fix our garage but the tech was able to fix our garage all in the same visit. We were so pumped and excited! We can now park our cars in the garage again and are so thankful for the customer service, the workmanship and the honest advice on what to do for our garage. Most companies only want to take your money and run but this company and its employees are all about making sure you get the value and desired outcome for using their services. Sharing this review is important because it truly imparts the character and integrity of Texas Overhead Door Company (www.txohd.com) and their people. We ordered a large custom glass and aluminum garage door for our residence in north Dallas along with a new opener. The door was delivered when expected, the old door was removed, and the new door installed. I was extremely pleased with the service and professionalism of Collin and Dave from TOD. But that is not the end of my story. There was a problem with the door. There were slight gaps between the panels, something you could not detect by visual inspection until the entire door was assembled and installed. As an architect, I expected it to be right, and this was not acceptable. I pointed this issue out to Collin at TOD, and he also felt there was a problem. Both the door manufacturer, CHI, and the management of TOD agreed. The door was replaced without question. BTW, I chose to use a CHI door because they use the same door and hardware in both commercial and residential applications. Need I say more? Bottom line: Texas Overhead Door (and CHI) stood behind their product and their work. Collin provided especially unfaltering customer support! I am very satisfied with the end result and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new garage door. read more

And they knocked it out of the park. Other companies we solicited either said they couldn't do it or could only offer a solution that would also be an eyesore. If you are looking to buy a replacement remote transmitter for your garage of gate, don't go to Texas Overhead Door. There remotes all sell for $49.00. If you are not in a hurry or immediately need a remote, there are better places to buy one - such as Amazon, Lowes, etc. I needed a Liftmaster LM371 which is listed on Liftmaster website for $26.99, but paid $49.00 plus tax at Texas Overhead Door. A 3 button remote for Liftmaster at Lowes was $34.95. This post is not a negative against the company, just a heads up if you need a remote maybe you should look elsewhere. read more

So I started out my Saturday looking for parts for my garage door that decided to act up last night. After much searching I came to the conclusion that I was going to have a door tech come and repair my door. Collin from Texas Overhead Door was very responsive. I only had to wait about 10 minutes for him to call back after leaving my information with the answering service (we still have those?). He told me when he could be there and what the repair charges would be. Collin arrived right in time and got right to work. I have to say that I was impressed with the level of service and what I think was a high level of customer care provided by Collin. He made sure that everything was performing as it should in addition to replacing my worn parts. If this is the level of service provided by all of the techs at Texas Overhead Door then I have to say kudos to the ownership and management of this company. My opener stopped working. Called Texas Overhead Door. Mike came out. Replaced the opener. Got 2 remotes, and wall mounts. He was very personable, professional, courteous and worked quickly. We have had our garage door for 3 months and the first wind storm that comes through bends the door and now I can't even open it with out it trying to fall in. They replaced a spring about 10 months ago and the door never quite worked correctly. I am out of town quite often so didn't get around to complaining until now. The lady said I would have to pay a service charge. My mistake for waiting, no big deal. There 30 minute adjustment service call cost me $165. Employees were nice and efficient but the price was about $75 more than I expected. I'll look elsewhere next time. read more

Based on the article on garage door repairs in last week's Ft. Worth Star-Telegram I contacted Texas Overhead Door. They were professional from start to finish . . . answered phone promptly, asked questions about the problem with my door, gave a quote before sending the technician, scheduled a technician to repair the door within two days, gave me a 2-hour window of when he would arrive, the technician called 40 minutes before arriving to let me know he was on his way, technician was well groomed and had identification, service vehicle was clean, organized and identified, technician did an excellent job replacing the springs and also inspected and lubed both of my garage doors, final invoice as per quote . . . definitely a 10 on a scale of 0 to 10 for customer service. read more

Long time 10+ year customer, called Texas Overhead door to replace broken torsion spring. When repairman showed up, he stated the fee was $300 for a 1 year warranty and $360 for a 3 year warranty for installing the same spring. The price sounded high to me, but he was already there and I told him to go ahead an repair it which took around 30 minutes. After he left I did some shopping around to local business's and found I could get the same job done for around $200 at multiple places. The retail price of the springs is under $100 plus the standard service charge of $89, total bill should have been below $200. Called Texas Overhead Door and spoke to Patti, who told me that pricing had been in effect since Jan and refused to adjust the price. The lesson is that even a long time company you have done business with 10+ years is capable of price gouging, always shop around and ask for a quote ahead of time. read more
