So, over the past two years, I've gained a lot of weight. I went from 140 pounds to 230 pounds. After doing some research I decided to get gastric sleeve. My current health provider is United Healthcare. When searching for a doctor in my area, they recommended this one. The staff was very friendly and answered every single question that I had. Prior to getting my surgery I had an EDG which was done at Townsend Memorial in the medical Center near Main St and 610. About three weeks later, I ended up doing a surgery at the Humble location. my first consultation was maybe three months prior with Dr Mehta. but for the time I wanted my surgery done they switched me to Dr. Yu. The process was easy. The doctor was very informative. in the EDG I found out that I had a hiatal hernia and Dr. Yu explained everything to me and how we would fix it. The day of surgery the staff were so nice. They were all telling me about their experiences with patient who've gotten the surgery. we talked about family members that have gotten it and been successful. That was even a staff member that had got gotten the surgery herself. Even leading up to surgery the staff reached out to me for anything that I needed. Their staff dietitian/nutritionist Lin Lin has classes that are very informative. And she responded to all of my email and questions. The clinic event offers an IV drip after surgery to keep patient from becoming dehydrated after the surgery. although that part isn't covered by insurance, it was so worth it. The office and waiting room is absolutely gorgeous. This was a great choice for me, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone. read more

This is for self-paying patients: Once you sign up as being interested, you will get an email almost every day, asking you to respond to some specific questions about your motivations, etc. It became apparent to me that no one read or replied to my responses. I asked them about that, and they said someone does "scan" them. But it's mainly a marketing tool. You set up a video chat with the doctor, and are asked to pay $100 by credit card immediately before he comes online to briefly speak with you. In rapid succession, you are scheduled for a 1:1 Zoom meeting with a psychologist followed by an online group session with their nutritionist. (both required). In short order, you will have labs drawn. If you admit to having ever taken an antacid, you might be required to have an esophagogastroduodeonoscopy. This is to check for hiatal hernia or other problems which will also be repaired during your weight loss surgery. Possibly a gastric emptying study will be ordered. If your stomach empties slowly, they might upgrade your procedure from a sleeve to a gastric bypass. If all is well, you will set up your surgery date, and pre-pay (in my case) $13,400. Once the surgery is completed and you are home, you buy your post-op pain prescriptions and ointments and have one more Zoom class with the nutritionist after 2 weeks. After that, you will probably never hear from them again, although you are free to contact them through the patient portal. And they do offer free follow ups every 3 months for the first year. Update, i still give this clinic & Dr. Yu a 1 star because we are NOT able to do 0 stars. After i posted on here with a bad review, everyone and their grandma from TLC CLINIC called to see what they could do, i even receive a call from Dr. Yu himself i hadn't seen him since the Endoscopic surgery. Which was on July 26, 2023& i posted ON SEPT 10th or so he said i needed to get some medicine and that i need to do another EGD that costed me $700. Mind yal i have already paid almost 12k for the surgery he also confronted me about the bad review which he made real awkward because he hadn't even done the EGD and then they put the mouth piece on me and i couldn't even see him in his eye i felt like i was being scolded by a parent, he made it very uncomfortable, they then put me under & when i woke up the nurse said he had taken a biopsy, he came out later said that the surgery didn't work the stitches came undone a week or two after my surgery. He explained that he was going to talk to Lin Lin the dietician to call me and set up & a appointment. That was SEPTEMBER 21,2023. I'm still waiting for that call neither DR. YU NOR LIN LIN HAVE CALLED MESSAGED NOTHING.the only call i received was from some lady explaining to me that to get the stitches redone it would cost me 8k more It's been literally 20 days since the procedure was the 2nd EGD was done, when i tell yal to PLEASE do not go to TLC CLINIC, i wouldn't wish this onto anyone. To feel so scared & not know who to go to for help and guidance. I literally do not know what kind of specialist to go to or if i should just get legal advice, the level of unprofessionalism is beyond me. And im not even going to go into full detail about the roaches at the 10005 main st that place is disgusting inside & out. I have pictures of the roaches. And video of the nurse that killed it also two patients that witnessed it. I took down their info. I wish i could upload pics to show yal all the proof. I should have went with my gut feeling. I HAD BAD FEELING BEFORE SURGERY, even on the day of there were 5 canceled surgeries before mine that same day, but i kept telling myself it just the nerves. I felt woefully unprepared despite their classes. Dr said pain would be minimal and 6th day after procedure I am in excruciating pain to where I can not even inhale properly. They only gave me 5 days worth of pain medication and when I called for a refill I had to beg because they initially said no because it should go away with Tylenol and a heating pad. I have had 5 surgeries prior to this, 2 c-sections, a nerve decompression surgery all around my skull total of 7 2-3 inch incisions all around my skull, a ruptured Ovarian cyst, and a hysterectomy and NOT ONCE was my pain mismanaged nor did I call in for a refill once the pain meds were up. Sometimes I would not even take the pain med anymore because The pain was tolerable. But somehow cutting more that half of your stomach out and having a hernia removed should be practically painless after the 5th day. Also I had 2 laparoscopic surgeries where an incision to my belly button was made. Once to remove an organ much bigger that a stomach sac and I could not even see my scar. It's like the drs cared and did the best they could to hid my scar. When I removed the bandages the next day And saw my belly button I almost cried. My husband is livid because we asked a ton of questions and felt That the entire situation was underplayed. And unknowingly to me because all I can concentrate on is this pain he pointed out that the Doctor has not even called to check up on me. Which is sad because our dog had a procedure done two weeks ago and the vet called not once but twice to check up on her. WOW read more

I made an consult appointment to get my Lapband removed and possible gastric sleeve. I arrived 15 minutes early. I waited for about an hour past my appointment time. Then went to the desk to check. The receptionist said it would be another 10 minutes. I waited another 30 minutes then asked for a refund. This was when the medical assistant came to the front with my chart and said he was ready for me now. I was rather upset by then and didn't feel like they would meet my needs. I did get a refund on the payment I made for the consult. I was very disappointed. read more

All they care about is money. They don't seem to care about their patients and they treat them like they're just numbers. 1-4 hour wait times then the doctor speeds through your appointment. The staff seems incompetent and makes a lot of mistakes. I've been sick every day since my sleeve surgery 3+ months ago and have gotten no help from them. I paid 15k cash for this surgery. The office staff of this place did not like my review. Instead of addressing the concerns, they twisted the narrative to focus on my review. I did not verbally call anyone in their office trash. I wrote a review where I used that terminology. I complained via telephone to the supervisor a few months back about the lack of communication. The supervisor admittedly said, "We've been going through some changes." The supervisor then told me that she would make sure that she will communicate with me going forward. That didn't happen. I called the office repeatedly to speak to my patient coordinator. My calls were not returned. When I called again last week, they "disconnected me." When I called back and asked to speak to the supervisor, I was "disconnected again." Having felt neglected and frustrated, I decided to leave an honest review about my experience. Apparently, leaving a review is the best way to get them to return a call. The following Monday someone called and asked me to fill out a form from a class I took 6 months ago. They made it seem like I was the one holding up the process. I simply filled out the form online to make sure she got what she needed. I was then called by a supervisor who was upset with my review. I was then asked if I wanted to take my business elsewhere or stay with TLC. I then asked her if I can give her some constructive criticism. I explained to her that my grievance was not the length of the process, but the lack of communication. I told her that in order to avoid the phone games, use email. Also, they changed my patient coordinator without telling. Apparently, the patient coordinator left. I was not made aware of that until I wrote the review. FYI, she emailed me about after I wrote the review. While offering her ways to fix this issue, she started to get upset. Doing our phone conversation, I said yes and no Ma'am. I explained to her that I simply wanted updates as to the status of my case. That is it. I do not think it's too much to ask for a return call or an email telling me where I'm at. According to TLC, it is. I asked her to speak to her boss. She told me she was the boss. I asked to speak to the owner, then she put me on hold. Finally, I spoke with the office manager. I explained my position. I told her I would be happy to give her a copy of my phone records. I then asked her; do you guys leave messages? They do not. I explained to her that in business, it starts with leadership. I told her that employees will only do what's permitted 95% of the time. She then said she would do some investigation for a day. She called me back to tell me how offended she was over my review and for me to take my business elsewhere. These are the facts of my experience. Furthermore, I asked to speak to the owners, and I was denied. All I wanted for someone to communicate with me every couple of weeks to tell me what the status was. Even when I called in to complain, they still couldn't tell me. I thought the manager would be an impartial judge, but she decided it was best to cover her tracks and push me out the back door. I hope that the owners read this and take a good look at how many patients didn't get to do their surgery, not because of incompetent doctors, but incompetent staff. read more

I highly highly discourage anyone to go here. From day 1, I was treated like a paycheck for the team and not like a human. I felt very unprepared for what to expect after surgery even though I attended classes they taught (which seemed like another way for them to take your money for nothing). I was told pain wouldn't be bad, but it was HORRIBLE and I tolerate pain well. I was told I would go home the same day, but the morning of the surgery when I was already in the hospital a nurse said I would be staying overnight. There I was, ready to go in and out and home but all of a sudden my mom and I needed to stay over night totally unprepared. My two week post op visit, it took 2 hours for the surgeon to ask me 2 questions. That was it. They make you leave your job to go sit in a waiting room. Once you're there, he barely cares to see you. I had to ask him to check my incisions. I developed a surgical site infection, had to BEG to talk to my surgeon and no one ever followed up with me. For all they know I could have developed something severe. I called them 1 month post op with severe abdominal pain and vomiting, it took SEVERAL livid voice mails to get any response (if any). The nurse practitioner DOES NOT respond to you within a normal/healthy period of time, although her voicemail message states she will, false. You truly feel like a bag of money from day one until you're done with them. And of course there is the finance side of things. I specifically asked to stay within my network so I wouldn't be billed crazy amounts left and right. I did all the requirements to get my procedures approved by insurance. Next thing I know I am being billed from all of these companies I never heard of. Dealing for the next 2 months (when I should be resting/recovering) with out of network claims. When I asked TLC about this their response was "Oh that's just the hospital he works at on Tuesday's." (keep in mind I never asked for a specific day, only that I would go somewhere in network with my insurance. Two months post op, I began vomiting blood, significant amounts. I called to talk to my surgeon but he was not available except for one day next week where I would have to wait a long time to see him. I asked for the nurse to call me back to know whether to get to the ER or what I should do, and days go by before I get a response (and only after another call). I really could not wish such a horrible experience on anyone. They may say they are one of the best places for this procedure, but you will not be treated as you deserve to be. I felt abandoned once I paid them the surgery amount. Do your homework, no question is too little, no number of calls should be a bother to them (even after clinic hours). read more

I had a gastric sleeve done and the surgery went fine, however, there are several things that has given me cause to share. I met with Dr Scarborough for maybe 5 minutes. We discussed which surgery was best for me. Then an office representative came in to discuss price and what info they needed before surgery. I did all the tests pertaining to me. When the office called me and went over price and procedure they said I was scheduled also for a Hiatal Hernia Repair. I told them I never have tested for that and that I do not have a Hernia. I assumed the error would be corrected before surgery, it wasn't. The nurse is going over the surgical plan and it still said I was having surgery for the sleeve and a Hiatal Hernia Repair. I was mad it hadn't been corrected but also scared bc they would have tried to do that too if the nurse had not told me. Dr Scarborough said he would check on that and came back to say I should not be having that done. The Dr was standing outside the curtain and I asked him to come in, that I had a question. He was reluctant but he did come in but still at a distance. Whenever I have had surgery the Dr always came to check on me to see if I had any questions. If I didn't ask him in the room I don't believe he planned to. I had my surgery on Tuesday and came home Wednesday. I was given an emergency # to the Dr in case I needed to call. I certainly thought I would hear from the nurse in his office to check on me, especially going through the weekend. Nope! I finally got a call 6 days later checking on me. I was pissed! My husband is a dentist and they call the patient within 24 hrs after a major dental surgery. The positives: they did a good job with a Health professional for a virtual 1 hour pre-op plan and 1hr info for post-op so I certainly had an idea of what to expect, what I needed to do to prepare for surgery and the 8 weeks post op. Out of the whole experience, what still bothers me is the fact that I could have had an unnecessary surgery bc someone in his office was not doing an essential part of their job and it didn't get changed. read more

I don't agree with the 5 star ratings, because of my experience with the clinic staff. I have not met the Doctors yet. I think they have a monopoly of the Houston market and know this. The front desk attendant is rude, inquires too much details, just to transfer me to named person. When transfers, I was hung up on twice. I don't need those silly office politics to impact my $15k decision, but I can't help to not want to give them my business. Because of the monopoly in the Houston area, I have to report them to the BBB and Texas Insurance Board. I think they are too expensive and possibly change pricing based on your insurance structure or financial status. We wary! read more

I had a gastric sleeve procedure on 5/30/18. Dr Yu was awesome and the procedure went as planned. I've lost nearly 50 lbs since. I came over from Dr. Hollis who closed up shop just prior to my surgery. The staff of this office pretty much botched up the transfer to them at almost every turn even though we kept meticulous records. If it wasn't for my wife triple checking every piece of information that was needed we would still be waiting. No one seemed to know what was going on. Our case advocate seemed disorganized, they kept asking for information that they had in front of them, they caused an insurance rejection until we fixed it directly. Since the operation they have not contacted me a single time for follow up or "first bite" class. Again, Dr Yu was awesome and I highly recommend him for your procedure. But his office staff is a failure and you MUST stay on top of their every move. read more
