    They have punching bags!

Do you like to workout without a shirt? Do you like your gym to have carpet underneath all the rubber mats? Do you like hunting around for plates because no one gives a shit about putting them back? Then Texas Gym is the place for you! Some friends of mine came here to deadlift heavy and they described it as like a prison yard. I thought I should check this place out and I was not disappointed. It's in a strip mall and this gym takes up the space of one storefront. Meaning, it's about 25' wide. Walking in, me and my friend were greeted by a lady who gave us a "WTF do you want" gaze. We explained we wanted a visitors pass (that's not really the right name, it's more like a cover charge to get into the gym), paid our $5, and were then welcomed to the gym. There was no tour, no paperwork to fill out. Just go in and get your lift on. This place doesn't have any cardio machines, just cable cages, weight racks, and barbells. I don't recall a PA system, so bring your own music if that's what you need. There were only a few guys lifting here, some without shirts showing off their tats. The place reminded my friend of a high school gym, in a good way. This place doesn't give a shit about impressing you or making you feel less intimidated. This place is about embracing the pain you have to suffer under the iron in order to get stronger. I can tell that when this place gets bumpin' you will have to wait because there's only one squat rack and only one barbell equipped with bumper plates. They don't have any locker rooms, but they do have a restroom and water fountain. I don't know how often they do this but while we were there the lady handed out raffle tickets and then raffled off a bunch of samples of supplements. I ended up winning a tiny box of some type of pre-workout. I actually really liked this place. It's no-nonsense and allows someone visiting to get in, lift, and get out. No pressure sales, no tours. You're a big boy, you can figure out how to work a squat rack. I might actually come back here when friends come to visit.

Welcome to the Iron Pile! This is a place to get fit not be seen.

Paige- I hope whatever kept you from returning my 3 calls was worth it. Zero stars for customer…read moreservice. Feel free to check my prior Yelp/Google reviews- I primarily post praise where it is due, preferring to simply let my money and business to speak for itself with substandard service but after providing ample opportunity for AMPED to make this right, I will leave this VERY POOR REVIEW with a clear conscience. We cancelled well within the 1st month trial period & according to contract info emailed when we signed up in spring of 2025, a very different picture of what cancellation entailed unfolded (opening was with repeated delays but I was willing to wait.. wish I had taken that as a sign of the Jerking Around, yet to come). We were charged $171 for the cancellation. Isn't a trial period just that: a TRIAL period? To add insult to injury we were again charged $65 for another month in December, and it has now been almost 5 MONTHS, over a dozen emails, 10 total calls between the local franchise and the Corporate office that repeatedly insists this is a local matter and has essentially washed their very bloody hands of the situation. As they say in the Business World, 1 bad review = 100 good. The $236 dollars won't break the bank for me, and I figure this review will do zero in the way of resolution so why not get my money's worth- money that is already gone with little hope of recovery. I have dealt with 3 other gym entities in my many years of working out and have never encountered this situation- the Gym Membership horror stories are apparently alive and well in Mesquite. So take this as a warning when considering this business and don't let the shiny, new equipment blind you: CAVEAT EMPTOR. (You will also find this as a cut-n-paste on Google and wherever else I can warn people- enjoy)

Despite being the first person to walk in and having two other members behind me in line, she asked me to step back and wait for assistance and proceeded tom assist the other members while i was basically told to "hold on" some 10 minutes later when done with the two members I was finally told that I was in the system but she was not able to understand or explain why I was unable to open the front door, regardless she was vert rude and when asked what the solution is, and or could I workout that day and the issue get sorted asap after - She got attitude and told me that I was unable to continue and I was told to leave. I immediately called my home town club manager and owner and inquired as to what the issue was, they told me there was no issue and they would call the Mesquite location and speak with them, to which 5-7 calls were made and no answer was ever made despite the employee being there just minutes before... All in all, i was not treated to my standards and could not believe the inability and unwillingness of the employee to make a member feel welcome etc. (esp as a visiting member) The whole reason that anytime fitness is attractive to me is that they are open 24/7 and have multiple locations for their members nationwide. But as demonstrated, not all are equal....!!!!! Needless to say, the whole experience was "less then expected and could be improved upon greatly...

My friend lives in an apartment in the village and she has access to this gym, so while I was…read morestaying with her, we decided to come and work out together. The area where the gym is located is extremely nice, the commons where all of the shared village grounds are (including restaurants and coffee shops, along with this gym) is extremely upscale. My friend told me that in the past, it cost five dollars to bring a guest to this gym, but when we came on a Sunday morning, they told us it was actually $20. We went ahead and went for it since it was just one day, but in the future, just be aware of that. The gym itself is very nice, the facilities are very clean, especially in the locker rooms, and there was a plethora of equipment. Walking in there is a check in desk, and just to the left there is a big staircase next to the indoor space housing a basketball court. If you go up the stairs, there are a lot of machines up there along with free weight /free space areas with kettle bells and yoga mats etc. There's also a small outdoor area with some machines, including a battle rope and a few others. If instead of going up those stairs on entering you keep going towards the back, the locker rooms will be on your right, and there's some additional equipment under the staircase adjacent to the basketball court. Around the corner, there is also a lot more freeway equipment, including a Smith machine (my personal favorite) and free bars for squatting/benching as well as Dumbbells and things of that nature. I noticed also an outdoor area with like maybe a parkour area? I wasn't sure exactly what it was but looked like a grown up jungle gym. And just behind that, there was a large (and busy!) tennis court. On the other side of the gym itself, there were also some large fields that looked like maybe they're for soccer or some other field sport? I didn't see any soccer goals though. There's also a pretty long sidewalk surrounding area that would be nice to walk around, but just be mindful it's not a very shaded area and in the summer in Texas it's pretty hot so I would be careful about that. If you're living in the village, the location of the gym is really great because it's so close by. My friend and I were running late so we actually did drive (took 1-2 min from her apt) and parked in the parking garage underneath the village area; on the Sunday morning that we came it was just free to park there and we didn't even have to take a ticket, the bars were just up when we came in when we left. However, I imagine that if it wasn't a weekend, you may have to get a ticket and pay or validate. Last thing to note: even though it was a Sunday morning, there was a pretty decent number of people in that gym. I never had to wait for anyone to use any equipment or any machines, but I did see some people talking to each other about that. My friend told me that it was basically "empty as far as she was concerned," compared to how it is during the week when apparently it's much busier and you do sometimes have to wait for equipment. Overall, this place is really nice, and given im thinking about possibly moving to Dallas in a few years i am quite strongly considering this area because of how nice it is, and because of the presence of this gym! I wish they hadn't increased the price for guests (or had a fee at all), but for those living here and just using the facilities complementarily, this is a really nice place.
