I'm very disappointed with our experience at this dance studio, particularly with the conduct of…read morethe instructor, Ms. Pam. My 4-year-old daughter came home telling me that Ms. Pam told her she is "dark brown." I find it completely inappropriate for a dance instructor--especially in a class for such young children--to point out differences in skin tone. My daughter was the only African American child in the class and had never even noticed the difference between herself and the other girls until it was unnecessarily highlighted by the instructor. What saddens me even more is that this is a Christian dance class. One would hope that such a setting would promote love, kindness, and sensitivity--not behavior that could make a young child feel singled out. I reached out to Ms. Pam personally to express my concerns, but unfortunately, she never responded. My husband and I ultimately decided to remove our daughter from the class. I hope this feedback encourages the studio to provide more training for their instructors on how to interact with children in a respectful and inclusive manner.

I had high hopes for this studio since it came highly recommended by coworkers. Unfortunately, I…read moreexperienced repeated racial bias from one of the instructors, Mrs. Pam. From day two, my daughter was misidentified and singled out unfairly, while other children were not held to the same standard. Mrs. Pam pulled me aside on day 2 and said my daughter had an accident (which was impossible because at the time, I wasn't potty training her so she wore a diaper to class). She led me to a child that was tan skin and dark hair/eyes. My daughter is Irish pale, light brown hair and green eyes. It felt like she made a racial assumption based on what she perceived my ethnicity was. I was even called by the wrong name, which felt like an assumption based on ethnicity (Selena instead of Salma). As an early childhood educator, I'm all for accountability and structure, but not when it comes with clear bias. We've chosen to unenroll, and I hope the studio takes this feedback seriously to create a more inclusive environment for all families.

I take it all back!!! I must admit that when I wrote my previous review, I was still fairly new at…read moreZumba. Now that I have branched out a bit more and have had the opportunity to be taught by many other instructors at numerous places, I have seen the light! And it ain't at Fuego Fitness Plus. And here begins my list of gripes. It seems that in an effort to make more money, Tracy moved her focus from Zumba classes to a boot camp that is now being offered there. The Zumba classes that she taught were very popular, but not as lucrative as the boot camp. In fact, Tracy's focus has been on what other gimmicks and classes she can offer, rather than on building the foundation of what originally made her business successful: Zumba. All of the other offerings (contemporary dance, hula hoop, caribbean, strip cardio or something of that sort, etc.), I might add, have failed miserably. I realize a business needs growth, but if the foundation is suffering, it just doesn't make sense. Speaking of the foundation suffering, the biggest disappointment is that Karla no longer teaches there! How could you let your best instructor and your biggest asset go? Really?! There is an older lady (don't know her name) that started working the front desk and checking in people. She sold my friend and me two punch cards, which we later discovered had a hand-written expiration date of one month from the date that we bought them. We had bought several punch cards in the past, and they had never had an expiration date on them. If this was a new policy, they could at least have made some attempt to notify customers. With other commitments, I cannot get through ten classes in a month, especially when I live one hour away! Had I known this, I would not have purchased another card. I felt duped. This lady was also very rude and unfriendly. Speaking of unfriendliness, there is a young lady who works there that has the worst attitude. I really feel as if I'm bothering her every time I approach the desk to get my card punched. One of the speakers went out at one point, and it took forever to get it fixed. In fact, I'm not even sure that it was fixed because the most recent time that I attended, the music was not as loud as I had remembered it prior to the broken speaker. Also, to any parents considering bringing their child, Fuego Fitness Plus advertises a play area for children while you work out. This "play area" consists of a small room with a little TV. Yes, that's all. This leads me to another gripe: The play area does not have a door and there is no one watching the children. On some occasions, I have had small children crawling around me. I cannot work out comfortably since I constantly have to be watching that I am not going to step on one of the kids. When Fuego moved from their original location in Golden Triangle Mall, none of the mall staff knew where Fuego had moved. My friend and I sought to join after they had moved to the location on Brinker Rd. We went to the old location and found a sign that stated the business had moved, but it did not say where! We asked the information desk and the neighboring stores and no one knew! I would imagine that a business owner would want customers and potential customers to know where the business moved. This lack of communication continues. For the longest time after the move, the website still listed the old location and inquiries on Fuego's Facebook page were left unanswered. Apparently, after the move, Fuego also created a new Facebook page, but did not state that on their old Facebook page. There are still people making inquiries on the old Facebook page, and no one is answering. Furthermore, an interested relative of mine contacted Tracy by phone and e-mail. Tracy did not respond to either. How can anyone expect to grow or maintain a business with these types of practices? Also, be aware that the floor of Fuego is tiled, and it is harder on the joints than actual dance studios that have a layer of cushioning under the floor. The schedule of instructors, classes, and time slots change CONSTANTLY. I can't keep up with which instructor teaches on what days at what times! At one point, it would change almost weekly! There are better options out there, where you can also get more than Zumba for your money, such as Brickhouse Gym and L.A. Fitness. If you live outside the Denton area or have the means to travel outside Denton, I would recommend 24 Hour Fitness or the Brickhouse Cardio Club in Flower Mound. Fuego is not worth it. To the business owner, if you are reading this, I saw that you used my prior review as a testimonial for your website. It would be great if you could update that with this review so potential customers can get an accurate understanding of the tangled mess that is Fuego.

The reason for the recent move was explained as needed more space. However, the room is EVEN SMALLER and even less air conditioned than the last place. And the sound speaker system is awful. It kept going in and out during the class I attended. Not to mention the place is carpeted. it's even harder on the knees than their last place. The website and facebook pages are awful and really uninformative. And they recently lost one of their best instructors, Ruben. At least they still have Ashanti.

We had a great time, felt confident in what we learned, and certainly will go back soon for more lessons and events. We both wanted to take country dance classes but didn't like that our only option was a bar. When we tripped across Studio 22, this is exactly what we'd hoped for. This event was organized and well planned with professional instructors who were patient and kind. Studio 22 made it fun, not intimidating. The ratio of guests balanced itself out. They encourage frequent rotation of partners (if you go as a couple, that's okay too), no one person was without a partner for too long. There was a wide range of dance lessons, not just country. The studio itself was very spacious, large enough to hold 50 - 80 people comfortably. There are dozens of four top tables along the wall, no reservations, you have to grab one asap. You are allowed to bring your own water bottles (BYOB). They kept the temperature very comfortable, impressive! Dress code is casual attire, something easy to move in, and shoes you can easily shuffle in. There is a fantastic YELP coupon when you check in: 1 Free Group Lesson. I plan to redeem it and will write another review about it.

My son has ADHD and they not only embraced him, but develped his technique and he thrived! My daughter is very young and only did the recreation program, but all of the teachers (especially Tammy and cooper) were absolutely amazing! Because of DI both of my kids are way above their age level in all genres from just one year of dancing there. The staff is extremely professional, and the owner is just so on top of everything at the studio. The best part of the studio is that none of the teachers or staff (Including the owner) get involved with ANY of the drama at the studio. They place the kids where they will do the best in technique and maturity wise. The only reason why we left is because we moved out of state, however we are going back every year for some of the conventions they participate in so we have the chance to dance with them. They care about molding your dancer into a professional dancer, not just a competitive dancer who stops dancing at 18 when they age out of competitions. They work with the seniors in getting them into the right collages and help them earn scholarships to pay for tuition. The owner and staff are well connected as well to get your foot in the door if you want to go more towards the entertainment industry. The ballet program is top notch with dancers that get into the most prestigious dance schools. (They have placed at least 3 dancers at Juilliard last year). They also have great adult ballet, tap, and hop hop classes that are so much fun! If you have the opportunity to go to DI do it! It was the best decision for our whole family made in dance we have ever made.
