As a minority mother of a neurodivergent child with ADHD, I left absolutely heartbroken by how my 7-year-old daughter was treated. Throughout the class, Coach Ashley repeatedly yelled at, corrected, and singled her out in a way that felt drastically different from the treatment of the other children. The final straw was when my daughter was denied a turn on the trampoline while the other children participated. She left class in tears. When I attempted to speak with Coach Ashley afterward, she refused to engage and walked past me. When I brought my concerns to management, I was interrupted before I could finish explaining what happened. There was no apology, no concern for a crying child, and no accountability. The only response was, "I'll change her class." What made this even more upsetting is that this was not the first concerning interaction I have witnessed at WOGA Plano. I have personally observed management speaking harshly and publicly reprimanding other minority children in a way that made me uncomfortable. I cannot tell anyone what was in Coach Ashley's heart, but I can tell you how it felt to watch my daughter be singled out, excluded, humiliated, and reduced to tears while other children were not. As her mother, the experience felt racist, discriminatory, and cruel. WOGA Plano may have a strong reputation, but no reputation excuses making a little girl feel unwanted and unwelcome. I do not recommend WOGA Plano, especially for minority families or families with neurodivergent children. My daughter deserved patience, kindness, and encouragement. Instead, she left asking why her coach was so mean to her.

I booked Golden Grip Gymnastics about six weeks before my son's 3rd birthday. They were so much cheaper than everywhere else in the area, but my husband and I checked out the gym when we put down the deposit so I felt confident that the kids would at least have fun if nothing else! I had planned to bring my own cake and have pizza delivered, and although GGG provides tablecloths, plates, napkins, etc., I brought my own because I wanted everything to follow the theme of the party. We had the whole huge gym to ourselves. The gymnastics area was a BLAST for the kids (especially the foam pit), and then Corbyn led a group dancing game and we took photos of all the kids together (a great idea and something I never would have thought of to do!). The GGG team took care of setting up, handling the kids, handing out pizza and cake, and cleaning up. Corbyn set everything up on the tables, but was totally cool with me rearranging some things in order to make room for the pizza.  My review is not doing justice to the amount of hard work the GGG team put in and how much fun the kids had. I could not give a stronger recommendation for Golden Grip as a birthday party venue. Such a great experience, and depending on my son's interests next year, we'll probably plan to be back!

When a friend told us about Best Gymnastics and why they liked it so much it sounded like the perfect balance for us. We checked out the website and found the first class is free! Quick Facts Parents want to know.... * The classes are based on levels of experience (1,2, 3 and so on) and most levels are offered each day so you can usually find the day and time that fits your schedule best. They days/times do fill up, but kids move around or graduate up a level so if at first the day or time you want isn't available, check back the next month as a spot may open up (that's what happened for us). * We've been at Best Gymnastics about a month now and my daughter is learning so much. The coaches are firm but kind so the students actually learn and don't just goof off. They have so much fun while learning great skills. *Parents can wait and watch. The entire gym is open so there is no hidden space you can't see your child. *There are mostly folding chairs to sit in but a handful or so high chairs are seated at a long table if you need to bring a computer. There is free wifi, a drink and snack vending machine and they keep it a little chilled so bring a coat. ---Our Experience---- When we arrived it was obvious where to check-in and we were greeted so kindly. We were shown to the cubbies where students place shoes, socks, jackets and water bottles. The older kids program looks great and I especially like the bell located in the middle of the gym that the gymnast gets to ring when they master a skill for the first time. Great motivation! I am particularly impressed with the Tiny Tots classes. That program is outstanding! I have a very shy and timid little girl that easily becomes clingy, but somehow Coach Ethan got her to join the class. She happily joins his classes, but I was interested to see what would happen on that one day he was not there. Other coaches quickly stepped up with encouragement and she joined her class. After the initial warmup to music the class divides into two groups and each goes to a different station or the trampolines before switching. Each station just looks like fun activities to the kids, but each 'fun' activity is designed to teach a very specific skill. Each 'fun' activity is first demonstrated by the coach, but big picture cues beside each piece of equipment also instructs. When the coach observes a child skipping a skill or not completing it correctly, they will assist or give extra instruction. I notice that the assistance is as minimal as needed since the goal is for them to achieve independence. The station's setup changes each week. After a class, the coaches often chat with a parent about a skill that was mastered or improved by their child. I have seen improvement in core strength, balance, stretching and confidence, to name a few.

They have several recreation centers with indoor pools. The one at Oak Point is the closest to me, so go here even though my membership is good at all of Plano's recreation centers. The first time I tried this out, I bought a one month pass for $33. That's the cost if you are not a resident of Plano. After enjoying my weekly experience swimming here, I decided to invest in an annual membership. It's over $200 for non-residents, but since my city doesn't have an indoor pool available year round for residents, this is my only option. This is an olympic sized pool, but the lap lanes are lined for the short course of 25 yards instead of the long course of 50 yards. Thank goodness because I'm horribly out of shape. I love that when I come, I can usually split the lane with someone. It's rarely crowded, and plenty of people are lucky enough to get a lane to themselves. There is usually a lane reserved for water walking. Sometimes there are other activities that take place and many of the lanes are closed for reserved groups like swim team or water aerobics classes. This pool also features a deep end with a diving board. On the other side, there is a jungle gym obstacle course pool area. Off to the side is a shallow toddler pool. Outside there are two more pools! One of the outside pools has a shore entrance and periodically a horn sounds to let you know that some wave action is about to start. The two outdoor pools are popular with kids and families. During the summer months, the outdoor pools are open every day. After Labor Day, I think they are only open on the weekends. My membership allows me access to other Plano recreational facilities. Also, there is a gym inside Oak Point with free weights, weight machines, and cardio equipment like treadmills. I haven't even been into the gym yet. Not sure I ever will. I'm just so happy to be able to swim year around in the indoor pool.
