Back in March my in laws enrolled my daughter in drivers Ed with San Marcos Driving School…read more Everything seemed to be going great until one of the last days of class. Two people came in yelling and cussing at the teacher wanting a refund because the teacher didn't complete his end. I didn't think too much of it at the time. I just felt bad for my daughter because she gets really bad anxiety anytime anybody yells, so she didn't want to return. The class and the driving part had already been paid in full. San Marcos driving school was closing and moving to new braunfels, so we opted to do "parent taught driving lessons." After fighting with the instructor for MONTHS we finally got the paperwork saying brooke finished the class portion. He would not mail the forms, he insisted that we drive to NB to pick them up. When my husband and I got there he had me waiting for 45 min just to hand me the paper because he "lost" it. Even though he knew someone was coming to pick it up. Then you have to wait 6 months after your permit to get your license. That brings us to today..... today I took my daughter to Texas driving school to sign up for her driving test so she can get her license. The amazing lady behind the desk informed me that the paperwork that I turned in his only half finished. That parent taught driving lessons have to be approved and have special forms. That everything we had was not sufficient to get her drivers license. Now remember the class was paid in full for the driving portion and the class portion with no refund. Now today I had to pay another $420 on top of what my in-laws had paid, to get the mandatory driving portion of it finished and the paperwork transferred so that it was all not for nothing. Never in 1 million years would I recommend San Marcos driving school or the ass hat that runs it. He was extremely unprofessional and very dismissive. He was asked multiple times if we needed anything for the parent taught courses and we were told repeatedly no that we just needed to keep a log. Save your time and go to Texas driving school in Kyle or anywhere else for that matter. Do not give your money to this thief who refuses to refund anything even tho his job was not finished!!! San Marcos Driving School

Absolutely awful. If I could give 0 stars to this place, I would. The owner is rude, the service is…read moreslow, and the place is a dump. As this is the only driving school in San Marcos, I hope that one day someone who is kind, empathetic, business-savvy, and driven opens up a place that trumps this one. Why I signed up with San Marcos Driving School in the first place: to take driving lessons to be more comfortable on the road before taking the actual driving test. I only took ONE driving lesson before things started going more downhill. Red flag #1: The place is dirty, grimy, and very old; it doesn't look like anyone upkeeps the place or even cleans it. Red flag #2: The first day I went, I never signed a contract because the printer apparently wasn't working and didn't have any ink. A handicapped individual who was managing the place at the hour I arrived told me I would sign one the next time I came. Red flag #3: Well, I never signed a contract because when the day of my next scheduled lesson came and I arrived, the building was closed. No one was there. I ended up staying outside in the heat for nearly 30 minutes waiting, calling and texting the owner Daniel P. that I was outside the driving school building. I finally heard back and all he said was he was so sorry and that he was on his way. I waited another 30 minutes and he never arrived. I should also add that I took Uber/Lyft to get to the school which isn't cheap. I was willing to put in the time and money into traveling back and forth from where I live in town. Wasn't worth it. Red flag #4: Very, VERY slow service overall. It took weeks to hear back to start lessons and I had to email and text them again to get confirmation. Along with scheduling just a single driving lesson appointment, the owner would text me at odd hours, even close to midnight. He eventually got angry at me for messaging him over the weekend when he was the first one to message me. Wow okay. If you don't want messages back during the weekend, you probably shouldn't message them back in the first place and maybe also set appropriate office hours online to discuss business. Red flag #5: After weeks of trying to schedule my second driving lesson, I gave up. Nowhere on the school's website does it say "No Refunds" so I requested a refund. I texted the owner and he had the AUDACITY to say that he "should take out 10 cents for [me] asking stupid questions...like [he's] God or something." The ONLY question I asked him in terms of my second driving lesson was if it's supposed to rain during the lesson since I wasn't comfortable driving in the rain yet. Is that not a reasonable question to ask as an inexperienced driver? For shame. And to continue, he said I would get my check in the mail even though I paid by CashApp. Guess what again? It took the owner exactly SEVEN WEEKS to get me my refund back. And was it by check? No, it was by CashApp. I actually talked to him in person for the first time a few days ago as of today, July 7, 2021 about my refund when he claimed it was sent by mail weeks prior. I informed him nothing was received and then he asked if I signed a contract. Um no, I never signed one because the printer had no ink and wasn't even working when I first arrived on May 3, 2021 and what does that have to do with anything? Then he begins to explain to me that by law I need to request for my refund by writing a refund request on paper and signing it. I told him I was NEVER informed of this when discussing my refund and only that it "[would] be [by] check." Also, he said that CashApp wouldn't be a method at all in which I would be paid back even though the Saturday prior to meeting him in person, I received a text stating I would receive my refund by CashApp. This owner cannot get his story or rules straight. Red flag #6: The car I drove in for my one and only driving lesson was disgusting and had little black bugs all over the coffee cup holders and the steering wheel. Does the instructor not take pride in the vehicle used for lessons? Overall, I was THIS close to going to small claims court. What a MESS and a WASTE of MY TIME and MY MONEY. If you can go to another driving school to take classes, definitely go elsewhere and DO NOT look back. Extra short fun story about this so-called business: someone I know who took classes here once told me that they got LOCKED INSIDE the building and left them when they went to the BATHROOM. Y'all. Apparently not much has changed. Same owner, same everything they said. Just go somewhere else.

We attempted to have her take the behind the wheel course, but Mr. Armstrong was never available. After 6 weeks of trying to coordinate our schedules, we gave up and asked for a refund - which he angrily refused to do. I had to take it up as a dispute with my credit card, which I won. We transferred to another school for the driving instruction. Now, Mr. Armstrong REFUSES to release her certificate to to the new school after more than a year of repeated requests - all of which he has ignored. So, I am filing a complaint with the TDLR. We'll see how long that takes. Meanwhile my daughter is ready to take the driving exam, and he is holding everything up. AVOID HEAD START AT ALL COSTS!!

The instructors provided a different motorcycle for a younger taller student because he was struggling with the initial motorcycle. They got a different motorcycle from across the parking lot at the range. I was told by the lead female instructor that failed me that next time I could use the Grom motorcycle they had. Why was I not provided the same opportunity like the other student during the training if that bike was available????!! So your comment sir, respectfully is BS!!!!!! The younger female student behind me skipped a cone during the examination and struggled much more than me in my opinion. Yet she was only 20 and passed to my surprise. She even stated to me she thought she would fail. She is the one who had an incident. In my opinion the instructors were bias . I stated that I had purchased a CBR 600 . Maybe this worried them because of my skill level. Of being 59 years old I understand how important safety is was in the process of switching this motorcycle out for a much smaller bike. Hopefully, based on my observations of some of the other younger students, she made the right decision in passing the kids despite. Frank , your instructor made the comment this particular student reminded her of a young Tom Hanks because of his boyish looks . I thought it was unprofessional. Kind of strange he was given a better opportunity to pass because he was struggling with the initial motorcycle provided by Total Rider .

I arrived and was not only the one woman in my group, but also the only one that had never touched a bike. As the website states the BCF1 is for " all newcomers" I was anticipating a coach that would be more focused on going steady and slowly (it's only 8 students) as opposed to continually looking to the other lot/group to see what they were doing. He also lost his cards, found them, said that this wasn't how he liked to teach but this was how TX tells him to do it, and for some reason told the group that the co-trainer was his wife as if it was necessary information. I was pulled aside after 15 minutes of being on the bike (missing both mirrors, horn broken) because I was fidgeting too much and I hadn't pointed at the right piece when he called it out. Patience? No. He didn't want me slowing him down, because he and SOME of the other men were excited and anxious (although none of them were complaining or acting out like he was). He also said that my thick leggings and high top shoes were not appropriate, and that they needed to update the site. Again, that is there fault not mine (I'm the student, not the trainer). NOTE: The website prior to that weekend said (over the ankle shoe, not boot (now it calls out no tennis shoes). He said it I should call the office, but I emailed and got this response (BELOW). I cannot recommend avoiding this school at any cost if you are new to the ride. The trainer did not exhibit any empathy or patience with me, nor was he interested in how I learn. This course is fine if you know what you're doing an can ignore the poor training methodology they blame on Texas. Dear XXXX, I appreciate your reaching out, and I understand your concerns about the recent training session. I wanted to provide further insights into the decision made, emphasizing your safety and learning experience. Firstly, it's crucial to note that in our Basic Riders Course (BRC), participants come from various experience levels. The BRC is designed as an entry-level course, and each student may have different self-assessments based on their unique risk offset, as learned in the online course. However, I must highlight that wearing Converse All Stars and stretchy pants poses a safety risk during motorcycle training. Converse All Stars lack the necessary protection for your feet, and stretchy pants are unsafe in a motorcycle training environment. During exercise one, it became apparent that you were having difficulty processing basic directions and operating the motorcycle controls, raising concerns about your understanding of fundamental information. As your frustration increased in attempting to navigate the bike's controls, it raised further safety concerns. In light of these factors, we believe a more personalized approach would be beneficial for your safety and learning experience. While we currently do not offer one-on-one training, we recommend exploring alternative options that align with your needs. It's essential to focus on your own progress and understanding without comparing yourself to others. Total Rider does offer an experienced course, but it is more demanding, especially for those who haven't been riding frequently at an intermediate level. Experienced students often face difficulties in unlearning incorrect techniques or habits acquired through improper training or self-teaching. It's a reminder not to judge others' experience levels too quickly or assume that you are the only novice in the group. Your safety remains our top priority, and if you have further questions or would like to explore alternative options, please feel free to reach out. Best, Operations, Total Rider (512)522-5844 | operations@totalrider.com https://totalrider.com/
