If you are an out of towner looking for a little culture, swing in here for a German pint, some music, and a lot of fun!

I was invited by a member, and I was very impressed. All the beer and food is very authentic and there is a certain nostalgia for a bygone era. There's a concert hall upstairs and a rathskeller down below. It looks like they have many cultural events centered around food and dance. The membership dues seem quite reasonable to me. To join, you would need a member to sponsor you.

Outdoor seating with great food trucks, live music and of course German beer. Check out their October fest celebration !

My first visit ever. Private event. The food and beer did not disappoint. Looking forward to another opportunity to go here. If you have the chance, I highly recommend it.

We were in town for work for the week and got an invite for lunch from a private member. What a treat. I'm glad we accepted! The it was a very enjoyable experience. The food was fantastic! Probably the best meal we had all week. Established in 1854 there is a ton of history in that place. We even got a tour of the upstairs hall. Great time for lunch.

I'm here for the Octoberfest on a rainy Saturday the night of the big Pitt v Penn State game. Since it is colder and rainy, there aren't a ton of people here. But there are tents up to stay dry. The food is good and the music is lively. Best of all, it's open to the public today, so you don't have to be a member to come. Oh, and did I mention good beer??? Always a good time at the German Club.

Tetuonia Männerchor Hall is a testament to Pittsburgh's German immigrants, and their desire to keep alive their cultural traditions. Through food, drink, music, dance, and fellowship, this private club has been a gathering place for Teutons since 1888. Located just across the Allegheny river from downtown Pittsburgh, the club was a social anchor of the once-predominantly German "Deutschtown" neighborhood. The Hall was constructed using a "fachwerk" timber framing method, which features exposed posts and beams, giving the building a decidedly European flavor. The neighborhood has changed significantly over the decades, yet the Teutonia still stands, with a vibrant, enthusiastic membership...continuing the German traditions today. Since this is a private, members-only club, guests are admitted by invitation only. Additionally, proper attire is encouraged in the upstairs banquet hall. This means dress slacks and jackets for men, and dresses for women. Traditional Bavarian folk attire, including lederhosen and dirndls, are always in good taste. The downstairs Ratskellar serves up delicious, authentic German cuisine and hosts monthly social gatherings, including a billiards league and a "66 league", where members and their guests play an old German pinochle-like card game. The original Ratskellar was constructed and finished by founding members, and the pride still shows, as is evident in the craftsmanship of the bar, the woodwork and beautiful murals in the dining room. The upstairs Hall, complete with stage and a full-service bar, is the home of the Männerchor and Damenchor--the choir groups that are the namesake of the club Along with a co-ed group, the three choirs perform not only at Teutonia, but at parades and festivals around the Pittsburgh area. They share usage of the hall with the Alpen Schuhplattlers, the Hall's resident dance group. The Schuhplattlers perform a variety of Bavarian-Tyrolean dances, incorporating traditional costumes; often accompanied by one of the many local bands that regularly perform at this long-standing club. A charitable organization, the Schuhplattlers perform at German clubs across the Midwest, helping to foster a better understanding and appreciation of Bavarian-Tyrolean culture. Their outreach efforts include a children's Kindergruppe, helping to instill German pride in the next generation. Constantly looking forward, a new biergarten offers food and festivity under the stars. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, Teutonia Männerchor offers a rich celebration of German culture and camaraderie. .

Okay, I'm biased because I'm actually German. And in Germany I'd probably never set a foot into a traditionally designed beer house - just because I'm from Berlin and this is more stuff Bavarians would do. But I was in Pittsburgh so different rules. Came here for brunch on a Sunday because of an invite. You're not a member? Sorry no entry. Luckily, my accent gave it away and apparently Germans are always welcome. They serve proper Bavarian food - Wurst, Bacon (?), Red Cabbage, fried potatoes - pretty solid. You can also get omelettes together with a Krug of German beer. Is that what we Germans do for breakfast back home? Maybe in the Bavarian woods, I'm not sure, but it is definitely something. The interior is quite unique - imagine Oktoberfest in 1935 and you get the idea. Fun fact: not everyone in there speaks German and they have waitresses that work there for over a decade. I do, however, appreciate that this Pittsburgh institution is around for more than 100 years and hope they'll stick around for a while. Maybe, in another 100 years, even the neighborhood won't look as dodgy as it looks right now.

Das ist fantastisch! The Teutonia Männerchor is bar far the most authentic German beer hall and restaurant in the Pittsburgh region. With it's historic ratskeller and saengerhalle, this is a place that truly can't be missed. It's quite deceiving from the look of the outside as well. Although not located in the best of neighborhoods, it has spacious parking and I can assure you it's very safe indeed. It truly cannot be missed, if you're in the Pittsburgh region and in need of a cold beer, authentic Deutsch food and friendly and warm company. I should also mention, the prices are right, very affordable for what you get, I advise the Lunch Buffet's on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Its in a school/community center, on the top floor in the gymnasium and generally has DJ'd nights, occasionally live bands. Open to all ages with a cover charge at the door, cash only. There are water fountains and usually a snack table for a small extra fee. The crowd can be very diverse in ages, from young high school students to elderly adults well into their 70s and the amount of people can be really hit or miss. If you are looking for nights where you have more advanced dancers and a bigger crowd, make sure to go on nights where there is a live band playing or when there is a workshop during the weekend in town. For the most part, you will see east coast swing dancers, the occasional lindy hopper and the even more rare advanced dancers. There is a beginner lesson for an hour before the dance starts and you do not need a partner to go to the lesson or the dance, although it can be more fun if you bring someone you already know. The dress code is very casual. There is a small private lot, but otherwise, it is street parking only in a residential area, so it can be difficult to find parking if you show up past 10pm. The space is wide open and airy with lots of long tables, each seating one to three players - many players took up entire tables with their excessive quantity of bingo cards, wide variety of dabbers (often in a specifically designed tote bag), and in some cases, an array of good luck charms. Bright fluorescent lights illuminate the scene and a balcony with overflow seating was our vantage point for observation (and play). Their website says they have a smoking floor and a non smoking floor, so I was imagining a darker smoke filled social hall, but there is now no smoking allowed and I soon realized that bingo is not a social game. With my one bingo card, I had twelve boards to keep up with (twelve is the minimum for play = $12), and let me tell you, I had a hard time staying with it - they call them out fairly rapidly! Chatting and joking with my friend was hardly possible without blowing our game. The food was super limited, low quality, mostly packaged junk. No alcohol is served. There is only one reason to attend and that is for the hope of winning money. There was an interesting buzz in the room toward the end of each game, like the group had a psychic (more like experienced) knowledge that bingo was about to be called. This collective murmur felt like a communal expression of frustration and anxiety. We try so hard, come so close and rarely succeed. The demographic of the room is statistically disadvantaged peoples. In addition to bingo, dealers on the floor sell other sorts of game tickets, like paper slot machine cards. The psychological exchange between the dealers and the players was like a crack deal; the dealers knew many of the players, knew when to come around, what to say and used lingo an outsider would not understand. There was an antsy desperation to win among the addicted, me, I just wanted to get outta there. With a packed house, there is no doubt someone is winning, that is the Slovak Catholic Sokols and their beneficiaries. As for the venue, although full of characters, it has no character itself - it is one of those big quick construction metal buildings.

Understandable, but distracting. The nursery was on the third floor, so of course we heard them running around during service. Could we have had service on third floor? I didn't go up there to see the layout, but probably not. The elevator is small. We only squeezed 3 people in. I sat 4th row from the back, and finally asked waitstaff to please turn down the radio in the kitchen, as the pastor was preaching. They did, but only slightly. Eventually. I moved. After service, we headed to first floor for a light brunch. A sign stated additional seating was available on second and third floors. That seemed awkward, and inconvenient. There weren't many seats downstairs near the buffet. That was fine, but people (some older) had to climb stairs to eat, or take elevator upstairs. We ate standing at a narrow counter on one side of the bar. The buffet included juice, coffee, tea, bagels, egg, sausage or ham, and cheese sandwiches on (untoasted) hamburger buns, (soggy looking) french toast, a delicious fresh fruit salad, sausage patties, and danish assortment. I took fruit salad (delicious), and a sandwich with sausage, intending to throw sausage out. I threw the sandwich out (see photo). The egg was a cold, shrunken, disgusting mess, with a greasy sausage patty, and plastic-looking, cheese square on a hamburger bun. I felt this was far below the caliber of what I would think Club members would expect. Either that, or Club members' standards are very low. This was nothing like the nice dinner we had there in March. Nothing. A sign in foyer stated they were making upgrades. Refer to my photos. There didn't appear to be any progress since March. We went to the (only) restroom before the service. Both stalls were occupied. A lady came out of one; a man (not transgender)popped out of the other. Apparently, there is only one (unisex sign) restroom. We were cool with that. Hey, there were doors on the stalls, so no big deal to us. However, some others didn't seem so cool with that. The waitstaff, though, were nice enough, but appeared a bit inexperienced. NOTE: Immature, and incapable of accepting criticism graciously , and using it to do better. Based on responses from the chef (who said he'd pray for me), and another employee, who immediately sent me messages here, I changed from 2 to 1 star. Neither were at all apologetic (but combative, defensive). Apparently, I hit a nerve. Just not the gracious, mature one. No employee commented on my first review, not even to say thank you. I wish them well.
