Swing City is a swing dancing club that goes on every Saturday night in Squirrel Hill and has been…read morefor many years. Its in a school/community center, on the top floor in the gymnasium and generally has DJ'd nights, occasionally live bands. Open to all ages with a cover charge at the door, cash only. There are water fountains and usually a snack table for a small extra fee. The crowd can be very diverse in ages, from young high school students to elderly adults well into their 70s and the amount of people can be really hit or miss. If you are looking for nights where you have more advanced dancers and a bigger crowd, make sure to go on nights where there is a live band playing or when there is a workshop during the weekend in town. For the most part, you will see east coast swing dancers, the occasional lindy hopper and the even more rare advanced dancers. There is a beginner lesson for an hour before the dance starts and you do not need a partner to go to the lesson or the dance, although it can be more fun if you bring someone you already know. The dress code is very casual. There is a small private lot, but otherwise, it is street parking only in a residential area, so it can be difficult to find parking if you show up past 10pm. Have fun!

When I first walked in the rich mohogany wood work and air seemed elite and pretentious but that was the last I felt of that. The staff and members are warm, friendly, and inviting. The Scotch was great and their new executive chef not only can cook the man is a genius with food! WOW!

Wow! What a disappointment today! While the church sevice (second floor) was going on, waitstaff…read morewas frequently back and forth, setting buffet on first floor. Understandable, but distracting. The nursery was on the third floor, so of course we heard them running around during service. Could we have had service on third floor? I didn't go up there to see the layout, but probably not. The elevator is small. We only squeezed 3 people in. I sat 4th row from the back, and finally asked waitstaff to please turn down the radio in the kitchen, as the pastor was preaching. They did, but only slightly. Eventually. I moved. After service, we headed to first floor for a light brunch. A sign stated additional seating was available on second and third floors. That seemed awkward, and inconvenient. There weren't many seats downstairs near the buffet. That was fine, but people (some older) had to climb stairs to eat, or take elevator upstairs. We ate standing at a narrow counter on one side of the bar. The buffet included juice, coffee, tea, bagels, egg, sausage or ham, and cheese sandwiches on (untoasted) hamburger buns, (soggy looking) french toast, a delicious fresh fruit salad, sausage patties, and danish assortment. I took fruit salad (delicious), and a sandwich with sausage, intending to throw sausage out. I threw the sandwich out (see photo). The egg was a cold, shrunken, disgusting mess, with a greasy sausage patty, and plastic-looking, cheese square on a hamburger bun. I felt this was far below the caliber of what I would think Club members would expect. Either that, or Club members' standards are very low. This was nothing like the nice dinner we had there in March. Nothing. A sign in foyer stated they were making upgrades. Refer to my photos. There didn't appear to be any progress since March. We went to the (only) restroom before the service. Both stalls were occupied. A lady came out of one; a man (not transgender)popped out of the other. Apparently, there is only one (unisex sign) restroom. We were cool with that. Hey, there were doors on the stalls, so no big deal to us. However, some others didn't seem so cool with that. The waitstaff, though, were nice enough, but appeared a bit inexperienced. NOTE: Immature, and incapable of accepting criticism graciously , and using it to do better. Based on responses from the chef (who said he'd pray for me), and another employee, who immediately sent me messages here, I changed from 2 to 1 star. Neither were at all apologetic (but combative, defensive). Apparently, I hit a nerve. Just not the gracious, mature one. No employee commented on my first review, not even to say thank you. I wish them well.

They had a banjo band playing! You heard that right -- a banjo band! And... you they were good! Sorta gave me a Haufbrau house kinda vibe. Our fish came ( I got the small and it was plenty). The fries were good and the slaw is mayo based ( for those the are interested). Def make this one of our stops next year!

I got there around 5:20 and I wasn't very close to the front of the line. But because of the wait it was nice to talk to the people around you in line. There were even girl scouts selling cookies to everyone waiting which I thought was genius. They have a big fish sandwich and a small fish sandwich and then you get two sides. You can get stewed tomatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw, or fries. They might have different mains other than the fish sandwiches but I usually just go for that so I don't think I looked at anything else. It is cash only but there's an ATM on site and you can order ahead for pickup. But if you have the time I would say sit and wait and hang out there because they have a banjo band that will also play polka. It's a really great experience and the food is delicious. Just know that you might wait a little bit but it's worth it.
