I'm glad I made it here, the space is cool - Im assuming you see many articles about it already. We were just here for drinks at first, the shot glass are much bigger than the city, tequila shot also came with some kind of house made chaser shot; mezcal came with grasshopper (unexpected). ATL cocktail was a bit sweet so I added another shot of mezcal in it... Ended up trying the Baby Corn and Corn Smut. Baby Corn was delicious, the sauce was so so good! Roasted Corn Smut Huitlacoche - it was huge, I called it Mommy Corn! It was very soft. We didn't love the sauces came with it (pineapple, apple, Hollandaise - weird it's like brunch sauce?) but they served 5 different salsas for tables and they compliment nicely. Glad we ventured out! Tetetlán is one of the most stunning restaurants I've ever eaten at. In the Pedregal neighborhood, the building used to be horse stables for the home next door - Casa Pedregal, a home designed by one of Mexico's most influential architects, Luis Barragán. We had dinner at Tetetlán a few weeks. We registered for a special experience - a tour of Casa Pedregal, following by a mezcal and dinner tasting at Tetetlán - an amazing experience. The food we had at Tetetlán was all very good: ceviche, tetela, taco, and a vegan chocolate mousse dessert. But the design and ambiance of the restaurant is really what blew us away. The restaurant has glass floors over the land's purple-black volcanic rock and has touches of color, amazing woodwork, plants throughout, walls of art and architecture books... It's a really incredible space - gorgeous. And the service is great, too. Don't miss the great shop at the entrance to the restaurant. If you're in the area, definitely stop by for a meal. read more

First off, the decor of this place is INCREDIBLE. The restaurant floor is made of glass and gives you visibility to the volcanic rock underneath. There's plenty of greenery throughout the space. Such a beautiful restaurant. I ordered the salmon pasta with caviar and it was pretty good but nothing too special. One important note to my fellow travelers: ask for bottled water. I don't mean to knock on the restaurant or anything but I assumed because it was a more upscale restaurant, the tap water would be ok.... It was not. My stomach was not great for the next 7 days. I love how Tetetlan allows guests to feel the blend of food, culture, and art all in a single space. Now onto the food! Of the appetizers we ordered, the Elotitos Enrique was the best. It was such a unique take on elote, had great flavor, and was super addicting. The Tabla de Pulpo y Tuetan was loaded with octopus and bone marrow; I actually liked it a lot more than I expected. The Pescado del Dia was also cooked exceptionally well and the sweet potato purée surprisingly went so well with it. For dessert, they brought out their dessert cart which has beautiful and aesthetically pleasing desserts to choose from. These rotate frequently as I didn't see the one I was looking for. We opted for the Tarta de Platano which had great presentation and I loved the lightness, sweetness, and freshness in each bite. I'm a sucker for banana desserts so I knew I'd like it. Service was so slow despite the restaurant being maybe half full. There was also somewhat of a language barrier; only one waiter spoke English and he wasn't even our main waiter. Vibes, immaculate. Haven't ever quite been to a restaurant like it. The floors, stunning. The feeling of sitting in a wildlife reserve or nature center is amazing. I kept accidentally looking down during my meal and gasping because I'd forgotten where we were. I loved the salsas, especially. My entree was solid (the mushroom pasta), but I wasn't super hungry - I would've done better going for the tacos or a meat dish, I wish I would've gone when I was hungrier. After touring Luis Barragán's Casa Pedregal next door, we popped in Tetetlan for a light snack before heading to the airport. This is an incredible place! Plexiglass floors that let you look at the volcanic rock and plants beneath you, soaring ceilings, an upstairs lounge with records, and massive library of books you can browse as you eat. They have an open kitchen, so our 6-year-old was enthralled watching the food being prepared, giving us time to actually enjoy our food. The food is not only delicious but also beautiful. The vibe is amazing and we loved every moment we were there. Next time we will come for a full meal, but I'm grateful we were able to experience a taste of what they offer. read more

Unique spot that is a must visit if you are in the area. We came out here to tour the adjoining home, which is very beautiful. We visited just before lunch and the menu had a brunch vibe. We tried a turkey sandwich and egg tacos. Sadly we did not sample their impressive mezcal cart, wow it looked awesome. - Turkey sandwich came on two huge slices of pillowy, slightly yellow bread slices. I was reminded of "Texas toast" but it was much lighter. The filling included roasted green apples, an herb pesto and pan fried slices of roast turkey thigh. It was very unusual and I ended up pulling it apart and eating it with a knife and fork. Not what I was expecting but very tasty. - Egg tacos came on a large platter and was pretty simple. But there was a huge quantity of a green salsa on the eggs that was a bit too sour for my friend. He finished it, but suggested asking for the sauce on the side in the future. We also tried some of their fruit juice blends. These arrived in bottles almost as if they had been made in advance. They were ok, but would probably not order again. Service was excellent and very friendly. The gift shop and small bakery/coffee shop in the lobby are both worth a visit, really great things to discover! We took an Uber to and from, not sure how easy it would be to park. read more

An unfortunate letdown. To start things off, the ambiance is actually quite nice -- beautifully built restaurant and very unique. However, at times it felt like it was unsure of what it was. You first walk into a coffee shop with an adjacent gift shop and then can choose to go downstairs to the restaurant or upstairs to a room with vinyls and yoga classes?! Our culinary experience was a bit odd. They were fully staffed yet somehow provided really poor, inattentive service throughout the night. Important to note that there was only three other tables at the restaurant besides ours, so they certainly weren't busy. For appetizers we got the plantain and the octopus. The plantain portion was way too large and didn't taste great. The octopus on the other hand came with very little octopus and a lot of potato -- a complete rip off, and the sauce that came with it didn't compliment the octopus and potatoes very well -- lacked acidity. Overall bad. For entrees we had the beet salad, the fish with white wine sauce, and the seared tuna presented as a sashimi. The entrees weren't bad, but were uninspired and certainly not worth the price. To top things off we had the most disgusting mixed drink -- the Nahui. Avoid it at all costs! It was a unanimous agreement amongst me and the two other people I came with that everything about it was horrible. It was a citrus/orange based drink with gin and rimmed with unsweetened coco powder. It came to the table at room temperature and was the culmination of everything not to do with a mixed drink. Finally, the desert was fine and nothing to write home about. If you must come here I would recommend coming only for desert and skipping the food and drinks all together. It's very possible that we just got very unlucky with the things we ordered and our waiter that night, so just tread lightly. I would also recommend a complete reworking of the menu to those in charge, but I'm just some guy. read more

Stopped here for lunch on our way back to the city from Xochimilco. Top three highlights were the elixir drinks (blue hydrating one was my favourite), soup (mushroom and the chilled watermelon were both AMAZING), and the banana tart dessert. My main dish, the veggie tlayuda was ok. I wouldn't order it again, but the appetizers & aforementioned highlights made up for it. There's a nice shop on the entry level which offers a variety of items including clothes, beauty products, jewelry, and dining ware (mirrors what is used in the restaurant). My friend got a mezcal set and I got a pair of tea cups. read more

Our first night in Cdmx was an absolute disappointment. Everything was extremely salty. The English version of the menu lists Alan Cops with a Demi glacé and sweet potato purée. Well this item is not a lamb chop but instead is shredded lamb cooked birria style. Restaurant needs to get a better translator. I ordered the short ribs which also came with what could've been a lovely sauce had it not been so salty. The sweet potato purée was ice cold and the rest of the entree was room temperature. My nephew ordered a ribeye medium rare and the middle of his meat was pretty much raw. All in a all very disappointing meal including the desserts. The service was mediocre with the waiter not remembering who ordered what and forgetting to bring cutlery after the appetizers. The ambiance is incredible and perhaps a visit during the day to see the home of Luis Barragán would be worth the trip back but never got a meal. read more

Beyond the food, which is GREAT, Tetetlán offers an original scenario where you are sitting and eating in a nice cave full of Mexican decorations. Tetetlán has a cafeteria, restaurant, reading and music listening spots, yoga and meditation classes; so, as you can see, is a very unique place. Please do not leave this place without ordering a regular coffee, concha de matcha and molletes with longaniza. read more

Beautiful setting. Very unique. Very bad food. Overcooked and under seasoned meat and fish that is also very overpriced. Indifferent service that brings the starter long after the main dish and still tries to charge for the item after it was returned as no longer needed. Shout out to Ernesto who apparently was brought in to take over after the rest of the staff (who were not doing much on a slow night) failed at the basics of table service. He was the only living thing at this restaurant that was helpful. The rest is decor. There's a book store to visit if you need to see the space. I would make sure i've already eaten before hand though - unless you don't need your money or your time. read more

5.0 stars. How does one describe the essence of Tetetlan? Well, I know a group of itinerant musicians from Mexico City who intermittently spend time in my current home city of San Antonio. They described a space where you walk over volcanic rock and explain that each corner of the restaurant is beautiful and wonderfully eclectic in its own right. They deadpan that it looks like a perfect Instagram space but clearly value it much more than that. You check Instagram and realize that it is indeed either a well cultivated page, a gorgeous space, or both. You travel to Mexico, go far off the beaten path, arrive at this restaurant, and take comfort that is the latter. I have written a ton of words, but here are the ones that matter. The food here is absolutely incredible. I came to Mexico City to eat at one of the world's greatest restaurants (Quintonil) and eat a month's worth of fatty tacos in 36 hours. All of that food was great, but the single best dish I had in Mexico City occurred at Tetetlan. If they continue to serve the cauliflower I ate two weeks ago, order it immediately. It was by far the best cauliflower I have eaten (across 19 countries and probably 200+ preparations). The flavor profile compared to using Lebanese cooking techniques with a light dose of sugar to finish off the dish. It was absolute perfection. The pictures esquites and lechon are also fine orders though I found myself gravitating mostly towards the vegetarian selections from the menu. There is a random bookshelf in this restaurant that adds to the really cool space. You can buy clothing items at the front of the store. It was a beautiful, sexy and romantic space that still manages to be understated. I wish there was a place like this in San Antonio. Or really anywhere in the States. I haven't found it to date. Tetetlan is a pretty distant cab ride from most places that a tourist will visit in Mexico City. I'm so happy that we took the recommendation of my musician friends and came here. It was an absolute delight, and certainly an experience I hope to repeat. read more

Wow. All the juices. Coffee. Exotics waters - yes waters infused with healthy treats... the space is amazing and the food delightful.

This is so disappointing as the place is wonderful -- glass floors over volcanic rocks, surrounded by books, with records and more books upstairs, a small gallery, and a few shops. The food, however, was very mediocre or bad, and I'm suffering gastric distress the next day. The tlacoyas were piled with seemingly every vegetable on the planet which was way too much, the tortilla was dry as were the beans, and the cheese was a thick blanket. The marlin tacos were bland. The octopus was not fresh and smelled a little off -- I shouldn't have eaten this and I am paying the price. There is way, way better Oaxacan food in Mexico City. I might come here for a coffee or drink and to read or something, but never for a meal. I learned my lesson. A complete overhaul of the menu and cooking staff might make me come back and try it again. read more
