Azul Condesa is a high-end restaurant featuring dishes from all over Mexico. Each menu item had an indication of the state of origin, and it's clear that this restaurant puts emphasis on quality ingredients and traditional ingredients and preparations. We started with the Heirloom Tomato Salad, made of chopped tomatoes, lettuces, sheep's cheese, and an olive oil dressing. This would have been a great dish, except that the tomatoes weren't actually in season (during my visit) and were less than ripe. One of their signature creations was the Buñuelos Rellenos con Pato Confitado, which were deep-fried wonton-like dumplings filled with a tender duck confit, and served with Oaxacan black mole. The pastry was nice and crispy, and the duck confit was super flavorful, so I didn't see the need for the mole (though that was delicious by itself!). The Pescado Tikin Xic was a Yucatán fish fillet grilled with annato seed, which added a nice charred red finish; and the Huachinango a la Veracruzana was a red snapper fillet in a Veracruz-style tomato sauce with capers and prunes. But my favorite dish of all was the Legendary Mole Negro from Oaxaca, a thick, dark, black, sweet, savory, chocolatey, nutty sauce with a complex mix of flavors. The mole was served with a piece of tender boneless "milk-fed baby chicken". The meat with sauce was perfect for wrapping up in their fresh, chewy homemade tortillas, which were imprinted with colorful designs! Overall, the food here was delicious and artfully prepared, but the prices were certainly high for the small portion sizes.
Still Worth Visiting, But Showing Some Cracks Azul Condesa remains a beloved spot for regional Mexican cuisine, nestled in the heart of Condesa. This was our fifth visit, and while still enjoyable, it didn't quite match the consistency we've come to expect. We started with sparkling water and lemon, followed by a complimentary corn tart with spicy tomato sauce--flimsy in texture but flavorful with a nice kick. The guacamole was silky-smooth, paired with perfectly crunchy chips--though the portion was surprisingly small; our follow-up order came with only four chips. We then had tacos de cochinita pibil, filled with beans and egg and topped with pickled onions. They were flavorful but lukewarm, greasier than usual, and not as fresh-tasting as on past visits. Later, the tacos de lechón arrived--rich and satisfying, but oddly, not wrapped in a leaf as they've consistently been in the past. For dessert, we had vanilla and chocolate ice cream--well presented but visibly melted, likely from sitting too long. Tasty, but not memorable. The accompanying sauces were bold but leaned very spicy, with no mild alternatives. Service felt rushed, with silverware changed mid-bite and a push to move things along. The crowd was mostly upscale Mexican locals, adding a polished vibe. Delish food! Classy, p fancy, plenty of yummy bread and breakfast options. Feels a bit upscale and staff is super friendly, even though we barely speak spanish! My chilaquiles were amazing, and so was my cappuccino. The croissant was PERFECT and buttery. The fruit was fresh and they were super fast to bring out our food even though our party was 16 people. The only thing I didn't love was the French toast - it was a bit too sweet and weirdly tangy. But everything else was awesome.
One of my fav restaurant experiences we had in cdmx! The space itself is gorgeous and the staff are awesome and fun. The drinks were surprisingly one of my fav parts of the meal - perhaps the best margarita ive ever had and the mango manguita cocktail is a MUST GET ! It has a delicious coconut foam and a lovely slightly sweet mango flavor. The mole enchiladas were an absolute treat!
Extremely popular Oaxacan mole spot. Great variety of upscale food with a beautiful presentation of each dish. Service is prompt. Drink menu is extensive including beers, wines, cocktails, and spirits. If you are a fan of mole then I would highly recommend. Definitely need a reservation in advance.
Great location in Condesa, I grabbed dinner here before hitting the night on Amsterdam and it was right around the corner. The dining area is beautiful. The mirrors and the greenery create a wonderful vibe. The food was excellent. I had the guacamole as an appetizer. It was very creamy and flavorful. I ordered the fish as my entree and was happy with the portion and presentation. The tortillas are made in house and we're delicious! The service was friendly and attentative. When we were greeted, our umbrellas were taken and held which was a nice touch.
Excellent service, beautiful restaurant. The food was very good, not anything out of this world, but solid. Large portions, lovely presentation. Overall a really nice experience. Between the four of us we had the ant eggs appetizer, mole enchiladas, hibiscus enchiladas, tacos, and duck croquettes. For dessert we had the chocolate cake, strawberry tamal, and soursop dish. This was a nice meal for our last dinner in CDMX. Glad we kept the reservation. ;)

Upscale traditional Mexican restaurant that focuses on authentic regional cuisine. It was one the nice dinners we had during our trip in March. Our server was very pleasant, attentive and definitely made the night fun. I wanted to try the Sopa de Tortilla mostly because of the presentation - it was in this cool looking ceramic of a señorita skeleton figurine. The soup itself had fresh clean flavor to it. For the mains, we had the Enchiladas De Mole Negro, Tacos De Lechón, Filete Con Salsa De Chipotle and Pescado Tikin Xic. Everything was so tasty, definitely enjoyed our meal. read more
We had a lovely dinner here. The food was mostly pretty good, & the presentation took it over the top. The tortilla soup is served in a Catrina & looks just beautiful. If you do the mezcal hot chocolate, it's served tableside. All the desserts were pretty spectacular, but I especially liked the tiramisu. The service was good, although my friend commented she felt a bit rushed, as they come to check on you often. Would recommend this place for a nicer dinner in Condessa. read more
The food here is beautifully plated, service is very good, and the interior revolves around a charming central courtyard. Unfortunately, the flavors that I experienced fell oh so short which is less forgivable given that you'll pay a pretty peso to dine here. To start, our queso fundido dried/clotted up nearly upon arrival, and reheating didn't help. It should have been served with a burner to maintain the texture, as this tequila-infused concoction was tasty enough. The tlacoyo came in an odd triangle shape which would have been OK if its flavor/price were on par with the street food classic, but that was not the case. As a dessert fiend, saddest of all for me was to eagerly peruse a generous, two page dessert menu and pick out two promising selections for our group, only for the flavors and textures of both to prove forgettable. read more

Service was good, food was yummy and reasonably priced. I will confess I was feeling iffy about the blue light decor at first, but it grew on me. The ambiance is relaxing and nice. My first meal in CDMX - pleasantly surprised and would recommend! read more

Had a wonderful dinner here last night. The upstairs outside patio was perfect. Cozy yet comfortable. The food was outstanding. Especially the Chile relleno en Nogada (only in September). Service was great. Attentive but not overbearing. 10/10 recommend. read more

Very unique with authentic Mexican flavors! The entrance with the lady doing fresh tortillas is one of the best things... food was really good but the drinks were even better! Our server wasn't the most friendly but the lady who was helping was super sweet and she saved the night! We really enjoyed our family dinner here, the decor is super nice and you just want to stay for hours there. Our favorite dishes were the Panuchos with Cochinita Pibil, Tortilla Soup (one of the best) & the hibiscus margarita! read more
Wow, this was such an amazing place! The ambiance was romantic and made you feel like you were in unique space. We had the following items: - Mango Margaritas - Guacamole with Fresh Mango - Chicken Mole Enchiladas The margaritas were so good - fresh, sweet mango juice balanced out the strong tequila. The guacamole was really good - rich and tasty, with the added sweetness and tanginess from the mangoes. The enchiladas were phenomenal - so much richness and flavor from the perfect mole (I had the mole negro)...it was just the right amount of chocolate, peppers, cinnamon and other spices. The service was attentive and friendly. If you're looking for a special experience with incredible food, definitely visit this spot! read more
not worth the experience. Oh my gosh. They did not have tres leches and it took literally three people to come talk to us for them to understand that we wanted a replacement. Communication amongst staff was poor. Food was average and can eat this stuff at home (ie pineapple flavored shrimp really?...). Didn't fly to Mexico for that. Really not impressed with this placed named "authentic" Mexican food. It's more a fusion Mexican with very high price point with mediocre food. The space is cute in a little garden surrounded by greens. We shared the taco for appetizer. It's very basic nothing better than street taco. The main I had a fish dish, it's basically the fish in Marianna sauce but it was listed as an Mexican traditional food. Very disappointed. Service was ok, our waiter looked tired and never smiled. Mole in America tastes bitter and weird, but the mole in Mexico is amazing! We start off with duck wontons with Oaxaqueno black mole sauce. The mole has a slight chocolate flavor and is a little sweet. The pipianes (yellow) is part of their monthly festival menu, and it is made with different types of seeds and nuts. The one we order is super tasty, has a subtle sweetness, grainier than mole, and the steak is really good too. The other mole (orange) is the sweetest among the 3 dishes, and the sweetness comes from the pineapple. What I love is we order chicken thigh and there is no bone lol. Desserts are kinda a let down. Tiramisu is normal, and the soursop is pretty lame; most of the soursop dessert is just whipped cream. Totally recommend this place! read more
Had a lovely experience here. We ordered the garlic butter shrimp. It was so good and buttery. My friend got the mole enchiladas - Also delicious. My husband got the dish which was fried duck with mole sauce. All the food was tasty and so were the cocktails. I loved the tamarind margarita. Ambiance is also very nice. Service was also good. The food at Azul Condesa is the best of the best. I recently came here to try their "chile en nogada". For those who have never tried it, it's a Mexican delicacy only offered in the fall when all the ingredients are in season, often served in celebration of Mexican independence. The dish consists of a poblano chile filled with ground pork and fruits such as apples, pears, and peaches. It's bathed in a thick, white, sweet sauce made from walnuts, and finally topped with pomegranate seeds. At Azul Condesa, they have several options for the filling and for the sauce. I tried their "chile relleno de Atlixco" which has the filling made from 40% meat and 60% fruits, and for the sauce I picked the "nogada dulce", the sweeter option. If you're in Mexico City during the month of September, I highly recommend trying this seasonal dish, and there's no better place to enjoy it than at Azul Condesa. read more

Our favorite meal in Mexico City (and we went to Pujol on our trip)! The highlights - tortilla soup: so flavorful and in such a beautiful presentation - tortillas- beautifully patterned with blue corn and also phenomenal texture - enchiladas with mole- perfect chocolatey funky flavor with tender meat, pure chef's kiss - mezcal pairing- I personally don't love mezcal, but it is a fun option for those who want to partake from drinking from the customary little cups made from a big seed - service was great as well! They accommodated a large bachelorette party and even played one of the bride's favorite songs over the speakers read more

Éramos un grupo de tres personas. Ordenamos el guacamole tradicional con chicharrón, entrada de panuchos, mole negro de Oaxaca con pechuga, enchiladas de mole negro de Oaxaca con queso panela, buñuelos con pato y mole de Oaxaca, de postre pedimos la isla flotante tabasqueña y el Nicuatole con salsa de zapote. La comida fue excelente! Sobre todo el mole Oaxaqueño. Los buñuelos con pato y con mole también fueron excelentes. Los postres me encantaron pero sobre todo el Nicuatole. Mi papá fue conmigo a ese restaurante y él mencionó que ese postre era uno que le hacía su mamá cuando él era niño. El también resaltó que las recetas son de comidas antiguas y le dio mucho gusto ver que un restaurante está rescatando estas recetas mexicanas que mucha gente no conoce. De bebidas probamos diferentes horchatas, yo tome la horchata de guanábana y una margarita con Maracuyá. Las dos fueron excelentes. Eso es un lugar fabuloso para atraer a visitantes a probar una excelente comida mexicana tradicional. El restaurante no tiene estacionamiento mas sin embargo hay dos que están casi a un lado. Recomiendo que se haga reservación con anticipación ya que este lugar es muy popular. read more
We just returned home from a week in Mexico City, and Azul was our last dinner of the trip. The food was great, but the service and overall experience were just okay - so it evened out to a 4/5 for me. We shared sikil pak from the special Yucatan menu, mole manchamanteles with duck, tacos de lechon, and espuma de guanabana! I've loved sikil pak since I first had it on a trip to Yucatan/Quintana Roo a few years ago. It's made from pumpkin seeds/pepitas with tomatoes, cilantro, and chiles. Azul's version was beautiful (it came to the table topped with edible flowers and halved tomatoes) and delicious. Mole machamanteles was new to me - a dark mole with lots of fruits that gave it such a delicious, deep sweet taste. They offer the mole manchamanteles with chicken breast, chicken leg/thigh, turkey medallion, or roasted duck - and the duck was absolutely the right choice for me. Delicious - crispy exterior and very flavorful. It was served with possibly the most interesting looking corn tortillas made in house - some had interesting designs and some where tri-color (blue, red, and yellow masa). My husband really enjoyed his tacos (I didn't try them). The dessert was light and delicious and also something I hadn't had before (fresh soursop fruit mixed with whip cream and a zapote negro sauce)! The food overall was really fantastic. And the menu is large and full of delicious options - I definitely had a hard time choosing what to order! I really love that their menu specifies the region/state of Mexico the dish comes from and that they offer so many dishes from all over the country - a really diverse, exciting menu. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience wasn't the best. Our service was very unfriendly and short. My Spanish is pretty terrible but our server definitely gave vibes of not wanting to talk to us at all. The other issue was that our table was kind of squeezed into a hallway area by the kitchen door (we could see into the pretty room with the greenery), and it felt like we were eating in Grand Central Station. A server even ran into our table once! It definitely felt like there shouldn't have been a table where we were sat, and it made us not want to sit long -- hectic! Overall, I thought the food was pretty excellent. I had a few issues with service and ambiance, but I would definitely go back and give Azul a second chance to stun me! read more

Azul Condesa provided wowful and memorable experiences for me in Mexico City. So memorable that over two years ago when I was there last, I still think of the duck buñuelos in mole negro: rich, complex, crunchy, uniquely tasty. I still think of the flavors and presentation of the iconic tortilla soup ----that you could easily fantasize Frida Kahlo took one of her kitchen works of Art and served it to you con amor. After the meal, the tequila/Mezcal cart came to my table presenting me with an after dinner infusion that took me into the streets of Mexico city ecstatic all the while thinking that this is how it's done in this great city, steeped in history and great gastronomic wonders yet to be explored in future visits. Unassuming on the outside, it's beautiful and covered in candles on the inside. There isn't room to wait inside, so we had to wait ~15min outside after our reservation time passed because it was so busy. The wait staff was lovely but very busy. The guacamole with chicharrón was good - but definitely needed more spice. The tortilla soup was presented beautifully and tasted fantastic. The enchiladas con mole negro was good - the sauce is VERY rich, might be good to share. Overall really lovely experience. read more

Super cute restaurant and very friendly/great service. We ordered a lot of mango mezcalitas, the guacamole with chicharron, empanadas, tacos de lechon and The tacos de lechon were just definitely get them if you're a lechon fan. The empanadas were sensational. Kind of wish we ordered two orders tbh. read more
Azul serves gourmet mexican food and is located in the lovely Condesa neighborhood. Tastefully done interior and the courtyard was a beautiful space to have a meal by the trees. Service was professional and staff was very attentive. Each table was set up with its own coat stand and the traditional jicara which is a mezcal tasting bowl. We started off with the guac appetizer. It was fresh but flavors were alright nothing stood out. The salsa that came with it was amazing and spicy. We ordered the Oaxacan mole negro that everyone talks about and enjoyed the crunch, spice and all the unexpected flavors and textures. The hibiscus flower enchiladas was ok, I thought it lacked flavor and didn't quite stand on its own and was too much of just one thing, I would have liked to see some other veggies mixed in for some variation. The modern take on traditional Mexican dishes have always intrigued me and my palette, the old meets new concept contrasts fresh ideas and twists that work. My wife got the enchiladas molé dé poblano and as her first time eating molé she was like 'this is delicious' and I got the Chipotle de Amor and it was one of the best dishes I've had since being here. And not to forget to mention the service, top notch. I'd recommend to anybody living or visiting the city. read more
Had a great dinner here on our last trip to CDMX. Tried their famous mole sauce and had some ceviche. I Loved the ceviche. Their mole was also good, very non bitter. Most people tend to stay away from mole because of the bitter notes, but Mexican mole is super complex. Started with their chicken tortilla soup which was alright. Service was great very accommodating. They spoke English and they cater a lot to American visitors. Majority of people at the restaurant were American so the overall experience wasn't one that felt like authentically Mexican because everyone spoke english, but I had no complaints. Food was great. Atmosphere was pleasant lots of candles and had a very romantic feel. We tried to get reservations at their insta-famous sister location in the Zocalo but they were booked months out so we ate at their Condesa Location. They have the same menu.
