My son, David Noah, got 9s on both math sections of the ISEE Prep School Test (the best score a…read morestudent can receive!!) and the tutors at Mathnasium were instrumental in helping him. My son decided to apply to private school for high school at the very last moment -- just two weeks ago, because he was being neglected at his current school, a public school in Beverly Hills (whose math teacher said he was 'only an average math student', when clearly my son is not, so it's been this weird ego battle ever since). So we made the last minute decision that private school might be a better place for him, since his academic needs weren't being met at Horace Mann. This gave Noah **one week** to prepare for this ISEE test--and when I looked at a practice exam, I thought 'holy smokes, that's a lot to learn in a week.' I was so sick and tired for my son's mathematic abilities being neglected, I called Mathnasium and said, "My son is going to take the ISEE prep test in one week, I need you to teach him all the math concepts on this exam--I don't care if it's Calculus, my son is gifted in math, and I want you to race through all the concepts and teach them to him in a week." And Aaron (who runs this Mathnasium), very nicely and professionally, said "yes ma'am". I was just so frustrated...and tired of 'educators' in the Beverly Hills Public School system trying to tell me my son was average in math, or that he wasn't good enough in math to be in Algebra 1 as an 8th grader, that I just lost it on this very nice man at Mathnasium. And you know what? Mathnasium delivered. Big time. Noah went 5 times over the course of the week to Mathnasium for two hour sessions--and went to school, and did his other homework--so pretty much the time at Mathnasium was most of the time he spent preparing for this exam. I don't want to make expectations too high for other parents -- my son is very gifted in mathematics to start with, the ISEE grading system is a true bell curve, with only 4% of the students who take the ISEE get a 9-- But I can tell you that Mathnasium will work with you--they will listen to what are your child needs are, and they help encourage your child to do better in mathematics. They will help your student live up to the best of their math ability!! Pretty much, everything that Beverly Hills Public School system (or specifically, the principal, vice principal and Noah's current math teacher at Horace Mann) has not done for my son--and it's been damaging to his self esteem and sense of self worth and everything--my son is quiet and shy, the kind of person who would rather everyone get along than cause a ruckus--even if it's at his own expense!--and Horace Mann has just been a bully about his math abilities. Keeping fingers crossed he gets into a private school! (Noah's other scores: 9 on Reading Comprehension (which is also the top score), and 5 on Vocabulary, which is considered average. I told Noah if only he had had time to prepare for the ISEE -- which I highly recommended, take 2-3 months to prepare for it-- I'm sure his Vocab score could have been higher, but alas, nothing is ever perfect in life :) Please note: I've never ever EVER had a problem with a school or a Principal before Horace Mann, and we've moved a lot over the years so Noah has been to many schools. This first year in the Beverly Hills School District has been such a disappointment, don't move there for the schools -- please send me a private message if you would like more information--it's the parents and some of the teachers who make those school reports high. I normally don't air dirty laundry publicly, but since it's part of why Mathnasium has been so helpful, I decided to share some of the story. (Though I fully admit I'm still venting a little, but if you're a parent reading this email, I'm sure you can understand why I'm so frustrated!!) Thank you Mathnasium!

Scheduling regular, consistent sessions was incredibly difficult. We went through THREE different English tutors, experienced THREE tutor cancellations, and despite paying for in-person tutoring, were forced to conduct some sessions online due to tutor availability. The constant changes in teachers, cancellations, and scheduling challenges made it nearly impossible to establish any continuity or momentum in my child's SAT preparation. SAT tutoring is time-sensitive, and consistency is critical. Instead, we were left feeling that neither my child's education nor our family's time was valued. What makes this even more frustrating is the mandatory nine-session commitment. Do yourself a favor and think twice before signing up for the required nine sessions. I deeply regret making that commitment. For a service that is supposed to help students prepare for such an important exam, I expected far more professionalism, reliability, and accountability. An awful experience for our family and a huge disappointment all around. I would not recommend this tutoring school.

I had choices between Michael or few others companies that also has a pretty good review but the reason I picked Michael was he handles whole process ~ from preparing SAT to submitting the applications ~ by himself and only takes 12 students a year, so I knew it will be very personalized and he would be able to pay close attention to my son. To start, communication was super easy, as he always responds very promptly and as he starts to work with my son, he always gives a clear update on what is going on. SAT went very well. My son was at the top 1%, scoring 1530. Next came the real deal; preparing ~ I mean really put out the plans for the following months. This is very important step which you should start as early as possible so there won't be any missteps. Michael was able to come up with a few ideas and recognize my son's true potential which brought him to a huge success. Final result: early acceptance to Columbia University of New York. I couldn't be any happier about choosing Michael. The whole process was a breeze. I knew my son has a qualification for the top colleges, but without Michael the outcome probably won't be the same.

There is a great deal of authenticity in his teaching approach; he is one of the few tutors who practices what he preaches. Should his own tools and tips not work for his students, he easily adapts, taking time out to learn about his students before formulating alternative methods. I admire the honesty he has with himself, only taking on a limited number of students at any given time. I've had the pleasure of working with Mike on two occasions: during college applications and later in my professional career. He is whole heartedly dedicated to each person's academic journey and is easily one of the best kept secrets in the tutoring industry.

I was in contact with another company who seemed to give me the run around having a tutor lined up and then a different reason to cancel each time, however I kept dealing with this company because I thought it was my only option since Covid and everyone being extra cautious ( understandably). I decided to do another search with my fingers cross that I would find someone who was willing to tutor face to face and I hit the jackpot with Rebecca! She was so polite and professional, she listened to my needs and my sons needs. She told me she would call be back the next day and she did! With two tutor options! My son was sitting in our backyard with his mask, with his tutor and his mask on by the end of the week. Best part beside Rebecca coming through when I thought I had no other options my son loves his tutor! They spend 2 hours a day, 3 days a week together. I make sure to wipe the table they use outside down with Clorox each time, I also don't allow anyone else to be outside with them and as I said both wear their masks. We've asked if we could continue with the tutor through the school year and he's kindly accepted. I will recommend her to anyone seeking home school help!

Noah had taken two practice ACT exams early May, and he got a 24 and a 26 on the grammar section of the ACT (which made is overall score a 29 and a 32). The Sylvan on Pico has a 'grammar expert', and I have no idea what this person said to Noah, but Noah jumped all the way to a **35** on the grammar section when he took the ACT on June 8th at USC -- wow! that's a 9 point jump -- I couldn't believe it. He also raised his science score as well, which were his two weaker areas so that's what they focused on. Thank you very much! Noah did 4-5 two hour sessions at Sylvan, and at $60/hour it's very reasonably priced (it's even cheaper if you buy hours in bulk). It was his first time taking it, and we will definitely be going there to prepare for the essay as well! Thank you!

But, it was challenging to evaluate that before committing to move forward with one firm. I'm sharing this review of Beth because she was exactly what I was looking for. In my admissions call, the admissions officer told me one of my application reviewers said they were hard-pressed to find anything wrong with my application. Beth made a significant impact on my application in two ways: (1) In all areas of the application, especially the essays, she maximized the portion of content that Kellogg admissions officers care about. Before working with Beth, I had iterated my essays several times and thought they were in a decent spot. After she reviewed, it turned out only a small fraction was content Kellogg admissions officers actually care about. We worked together to maximize the portion of the content admissions officers care about and pared down the rest. (2) While I had a high-level idea of what a good application looked like, I didn't have a crystal clear picture, and as a consequence, I found I would iterate on application components much more than necessary because I wanted to be sure they were as good as possible. Beth let me know when each one was in a good state so I could focus my time effectively, and that allowed me to put adequate effort into every portion of the application. There's nothing magic in those two items, which is why I recommend her so highly: I'm confident that her impact on my application is repeatable with any application. I could tell in working with her that she's evaluated thousands of Kellogg applications, and that makes her uniquely suited to advise in those two areas.

The SBC team works together to create a holistic experience. Bill took the time to understand my goals before pairing me with a consultant. Amy spent countless hours with me understanding what made me tick and helping me translate that into an application. Beth flight tested my application and made sure that there weren't any glaring holes, and Anthony helped me prep for my Wharton Team Based Discussion. By far the most valuable part of this process was having Amy by my side. No question was too trivial for her, and she had limitless patience with me as I obsessed over every detail of my application. Amy's most valuable contribution, however, was her ability to help me focus on the RIGHT details. It is easy to lose sight of what you are building as you write the applications from the ground up, and it can be particularly challenging not to write applications based on what you THINK the AdComms WANT to hear. Amy encouraged me to embrace my authentic voice, and ensured that I was telling a story that highlighted who I am as a human. Thanks to Amy and the SBC team I was admitted to FIVE MBA programs: GSB, Wharton, Booth, Columbia, and Stern (with a full ride).
